Measuring 'Consumer Smartness' for the fashion consumption environment

  • As consumers have transformed into the influential entities in the recent consumption environment, it needs a new concept to describe their characteristics. Drawn on the notion of smart consumer experience, this study views the multiple traits of new consumers as consumer smartness. Therefore, elaborating the concept of consumer smartness, this study aims to develop its measurement and validate it by examining the relationship with external variables. Two online surveys were conducted by a professional survey company that had nationwide consumer panels. A total of 531 adult consumers who had purchased fashion goods online completed a self-administered questionnaires. A series of exploratory and confirmative factor analysis generated 21 measuring items with six underlying constructs of consumer smartness such as innovativeness, opinion leadership, self-disclosure, marketing literacy, dissatisfaction, and technology sophistication. In order to validate the measurement, this study conducted a Pearson's correlation test and structural equation modeling analysis with consumer smartness and external constructs. The result shows that there was a significant positive relationship between consumer smartness and behavioral intentions online. In addition, consumer smartness influenced their shopping and sharing intention which supported the validity of new measurement of consumer smartness. This study provides a theoretical and empirical ground of understanding consumer smartness as new consumer characteristics in the changing environment of fashion retailing.

온라인 패션쇼핑몰의 개인 상품 추천서비스가 인지적 태도와 감정적 애착을 통해 서비스 사용행동에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Personalized Product Recommendation Service of Online Fashion Shopping Mall on Service Use Behaviors through Cognitive Attitude and Emotional Attachment)

  • Personalized product recommendation service is receiving attention as a new marketing strategy while supporting consumer information search and purchasing decisions. This study attempted to verify the effect of self-reference on service use behavior through the dual path of cognitive attitude and emotional attachment. Using convenience sampling, an online survey was conducted with 324 women who were in their 20s and 30s. After collecting and compiling the survey data, the reliability and validity of variables constituting the conceptual research model were verified through confirmatory factor analysis using AMOS 22.0. Next, the significance of sequentially mediated pathways was verified using Process 3.5 Model 80. The results showed that self-referencing not only significantly affects service use intention by simply mediating cognitive attitudes but also sequentially mediates cognitive attitudes and additional information search. Furthermore, self-referencing was significant as an indirect path to service use intention by mediating additional information search. However, in the path mediated by emotional attachment, self-referencing was considered as a simple mediated path leading to service usage intention. These results indicate a dual path in the psychological mechanism, through cognitive and emotional evaluation, that prompts consumer behavioral responses to the personalized product information provided in the shopping process.

인터넷 자기효능감으로 인한 웹쇼핑에 대한 태도와 구매행동의도에 관한 연구 -내재적 동기와 외재적 동기를 중심으로- (A Study On Web Shopping Attitude and Purchasing Intention of Internet Self-Efficacy -Focus on Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation-)

  • 본 연구는 웰쇼핑 구매시에 인터넷의 첨단기법과 기술로 인해 인터넷 자기효능감이 저하될 때 그로 인한 웹쇼핑 태도와 구매의도의 영향관계를 살펴보고 있다. 인터넷 자기효능감은 인터넷에서 특정활동, 즉 구매행동이나 쇼핑을 성공적으로 잘 할 수 있다는 자신의 능력에 대한 믿음 및 자신감을 말한다. 이것은 과거에 행했던 것과의 관련이 아니라, 미래에 잘행할 수 있다는 판단과 관련이 있다. 아울러, 인터넷 수용에 대한 장애요인이 되는 복잡성, 지식과 새로운 사용자에 의해 직면하게 되는 불편 등은 인터넷 자기효능감의 부족으로 해석 되어질 수 있다. 따라서, 인터넷 자기효능감이 웹쇼핑에서의 인터넷에 대한 지각된 유용성과, 지각된 용이성, 지각된 즐거움 등과 어떠한 영향관계가 있고, 이로 인한 구매태도와 구매의도까지 인과관계를 살펴보는데 연구의 목적이 있다. 연구의 결과는 인터넷 자기효능감은 지각된 용이성, 즉 인터넷의 사용이 쉽다는 것에 영향을 미쳐서, 이러한 지각된 용이성이 다시 유용성과 즐거움 등을 통해 웹쇼핑 구매태도, 구매의도에 영향을 미치게 된다. 이것은 지각된 용이성을 매개로 한 지각된 유용성과 지각된 즐거움에 영향을 미친다는 것이다. 따라서 마케터는 무엇보다도 인터넷 자기효능감을 높여서 결과변수인 웹쇼핑의 구매태도와 구매의도를 획득할 수 있다는 시사점을 줄 것이다.

Using the theory of planned behavior to determine factors influencing processed foods consumption behavior

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study is to identify how level of information affected intention, using the Theory of Planned Behavior. SUBJECTS/METHODS: The study was conducted survey in diverse community centers and shopping malls in Seoul, which yielded N = 209 datasets. To compare processed foods consumption behavior, we divided samples into two groups based on level of information about food additives (whether respondents felt that information on food additives was sufficient or not). We analyzed differences in attitudes toward food additives and toward purchasing processed foods, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and behavioral intentions to processed foods between sufficient information group and lack information group. RESULTS: The results confirmed that more than 78% of respondents thought information on food additives was insufficient. However, the group who felt information was sufficient had more positive attitudes about consuming processed foods and behavioral intentions than the group who thought information was inadequate. This study found people who consider that they have sufficient information on food additives tend to have more positive attitudes toward processed foods and intention to consume processed foods. CONCLUSIONS: This study suggests increasing needs for nutrition education on the appropriate use of processed foods. Designing useful nutrition education requires a good understanding of factors which influence on processed foods consumption.

Perceived Enjoyment, Application Self-efficacy, and Subjective Norms as Determinants of Behavior Intention in Using OVO Applications

  • This study examines the role of perceived enjoyment, self-efficacy, and subjective norms as determinants of behavioral intention to use the OVO application. This study's target population is the users of the OVO application who have used it as an electronic transaction. This study's population was the OVO application users as an electronic transaction tool in Jember Regency. Samples were randomly selected at the time of the survey with specific criteria. The survey location is determined at the Plaza because it is a shopping center that mostly has payments at OVO partner merchants. The model empirically tested using data gathered from 150 respondents of OVO users. The research model was tested by using the structural equation modeling (SEM) approach. The results showed that all constructs in the original TAM model were statistically significant. Subjective norm has a positive effect on perceived usefulness, and perceived enjoyment positively affects perceived ease of use of OVO applications. On the other hand, applications' self-efficacy does not affect the perceived ease of using OVO applications for electronic transactions. This condition shows that subjective norms are dominant external individual perspectives compared to self-efficacy, which are personal internal characteristics in determining the behavioral intention of using OVO applications in electronic transactions.

일회성 소비재의 구독서비스 이용의도에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구: 행동추론이론을 중심으로 (Factors influencing online subscription for disposable consumer goods: A Behavioral Reasoning Theory Perspective)

  • 최근 글로벌 경제 트렌드로 비대면 온라인 쇼핑의 성장과 함께 구독경제도 급속히 확산되고 있다. 본 연구는 일회성 소비재의 구독서비스 이용의도에 미치는 영향을 행동추론이론을 통해 검증하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 소비자 344명의 설문 응답을 수집하여 실증분석을 하였다. 분석 결과 첫째, 변화 개방성 가치는 일회성 소비재 구독서비스의 수용이유, 비수용이유 및 태도에 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 둘째, 수용이유는 태도와 구독 의도에 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 셋째, 비수용이유는 태도에는 유의한 부(-)의 영향을 미치고, 구독 의도에는 미치는 영향이 유의하지 않은 것으로 확인되었다. 넷째, 태도는 구독 이용의도에 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 다섯째, 수용이유 및 비수용이유 중 가격의식과 품질 장벽의 영향력이 가장 큰 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과는 일회성 소비재 구독서비스 업체의 전략 운영에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대되며, 추후 다양한 구독서비스에 적용 및 변수 추가를 통해 연구결과를 보다 일반화하고 실무적인 활용도를 높일 수 있을 것이다.

지속가능 패션제품에 대한 소비자의 구매의도 및 구매행동 영향요인에 관한 연구: E-TPB(확장된 계획행동이론)를 바탕으로 (A Study on the Factors Influencing of Consumers' Purchase Intention and Purchase Behavior for Sustainable Fashion Products: Based on Expanded Theory of Planned Behavior)

  • To improve the discrepancy between consumer attitude and actual consumption behavior despite the expansion of consumer perception of sustainable fashion, this study attempted to identify the factors influencing the purchase intention and behavior of sustainable fashion consumers. The extended theory of planned behavior, which adds prior knowledge and consumer inertia, was used to predict purchase intention and factors affecting purchase behavior for sustainable fashion, and to verify the influence of knowledge and inertia on consumers' attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control. The results of this study were derived from SPSS and AMOS statistical analysis based on response data of 323 domestic male and female consumers, 20 years or older with experience in sustainable fashion consumption. The results showed that consumers' prior knowledge and inertia about sustainable fashion have a significant influence on their attitude toward sustainable fashion consumption, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control. Implications were derived based on this quantitative verification. The higher the level of consumers' knowledge of sustainable fashion, the greater the impact on attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control, but inertia decreases the impact. Therefore, to grow consumers' knowledge, not only a shopping environment should be established but also inertia should be suppressed as much as possible through sustainable fashion marketing activities.

Exploring Interpersonal Trust Online

  • This study views the people's propensity to rely on others' evaluations as the interpersonal trust online despite a lack of personal interactions. Therefore, this study explores the underlying dimensions of interpersonal trust and examines how interpersonal trust influences trust in the e-tailer and behavioral intent. Data of 395 adults who had purchased apparel goods online were collected nationwide using an online questionnaire. Exploratory and confirmative factor analysis identified five underlying constructs of interpersonal trust online such as peer identification, ability, integrity, shared lifegoals, and benevolence. A structural equation modeling test was conducted to examine the relationships between interpersonal trust, trust in the e-tailer, and behavioral intent. Interpersonal trust influenced on trust in the e-tailer, specifically on trust in the e-tailer's competence which subsequently increased a customer's behavioral intent such as attitude toward the e-tailer and shopping intention. Although no direct effect of interpersonal trust on the behavioral intent was found, interestingly, the effects of the interpersonal trust on the e-tailer trust which derived the behavioral intent to purchase. This result suggests that marketers devise a more effective system and environment that can encourage the interpersonal trust between customers to build a strong trust in e-tailers. It also provides a theoretical framework of online trust in the way of classifying interpersonal trust and trust in e-tailers.

크루즈관광에서 기존-잠재 고객간 행동의도 결정요인 차이에 관한 연구 -인천지역을 중심으로- (A Study on the Difference of Determinants between Behavioral Intentions of Existing and Potential Customers in Cruise Tourism -Focusing on the Region of Incheon-)

  • 본 연구는 국내 크루즈 수요층을 대상으로 크루즈관광에 있어 고객 행동의도와 그것의 결정요인이라 할 수 있는 서비스품질, 고객만족과 같은 마케팅 변수들과의 관계를 파악하고자 하였다. 그를 통해서 잠재고객의 유치를 위해서는 어떤 서비스 요인을 더 강조해야 하고, 기존고객들의 행동의도를 높이기 위해서는 어떤 서비스 요인에 대해 더 집중해야 할 지 전략적 방안을 모색하였다. 연구결과 기존고객의 경우 서비스품질 세차원의 구성요인 중 물리적환경만이 행동의도에 유의하게 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 즉 전용부두건설 등 편의시설 구축에 우선적인 마케팅 노력이 필요할 것으로 보인다. 잠재고객의 경우 서비스전달이 행동의도에 가장 크게 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 크루즈 기항빈도, 쇼핑 및 먹거리 시설, 크루즈상품 등에 대한 이슈 발굴 및 개발 그리고 홍보 등의 촉진활동이 요구된다.

푸드코트 속성과 감정이 고객 재방문에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Attributes of Food Courts and Emotions on Customer Revisit Intention)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the change attributes of food courts inside department stores or shopping centers, which are becoming more sophisticated and gentrified. A survey was conducted regarding customer satisfaction level of food services, which influences customers' revisit behavioral intentions, to provide future development direction. Using an exploratory factor analysis, 55 questions on food and beverage service, atmosphere, comfort, sanitation, and food quality were produced. This study tested how these choice factors affect customers' positive or negative impressions of their dining experiences through multiple regression analysis. Results indicate that 'food service' was the most important factor contributing to customers' positive impressions along with higher revisit behavioral intentions. On the contrary, respondents who received poor 'food service' had higher negative impressions with low revisit intentions. The results and findings of this study will positively influence marketing and customer relationship management and thus help design of successful strategies for food court development.
