In this study, we surveyed the current status and sizing system of the custom dress shirts sold through online shopping, compared with the sizing system of the ready-made dress shirts. We tried to collect the information needed to make the well fitted dress shirts for middle-aged men from this study. The 17 online custom dress shirt brands were selected and the sales type, sales price, design options and size options of each brand were analyzed. The sizing systems of online custom dress shirt brands were compared with the sizing system of the 10 ready made dress shirt brands. The result showed that online custom dress shirts brands offered a variety of design options and size options to meet the consumers' individuality, taste and demand for good fit. In the ready-made brands, all 10 brands were using the same size notation system. In the same size designation, the difference in product size among the ready-made brands showed a tendency to be smaller than the online custom brands. The online custom brands had the different size notation system among brands. The size notation, the number of size designation and the size interval were different for each brand. Also, in the online custom brands, the product size among brands differed from each other in the same size designation. Therefore, the standardized size information and sizing system for middle-aged men that could be used as criteria when making the product size and pattern design in online custom brands were needed.

This study aimed to develop fashion designs by applying the PO (Provocative Operation) method as a 3D virtual clothing program and to derive the PO application method in fashion design. The first T-shirt design was presented as an existing thinking method, and the second design was developed by applying escape, reversal, exaggeration, distortion, and hopeful thinking techniques, which are techniques for 'provocation' of the PO method, to the first design. Thus, 18 T-shirt designs were developed as 3D virtual clothing, with 3 sets of 6 designs, including the 1st and 2nd designs. The method of using the 'provocation' techniques of the PO method in the development of fashion design derived from this was as follows. First, the 'escape' technique was designed in such a way that a part of the detail or structure was deleted, or a part of the structure or expression element of another item was applied. Second, the 'inversion' technique was expressed by inverting the position or shape of a detail or structure up, down, left, and right; fitting the structural detail or reversing the shape; or converting the structure and form. Third, the 'exaggeration' technique exaggerated the size, length, and volume of a structure's form or detail. Fourth, the 'distortion' technique was expressed as a distortion of lines or shapes or a visual distortion using the Trompe l'oeil technique. Fifth, the 'hopeful thinking' technique was developed and expressed from the idea of an hypothetical 'if' it was absurd, irrational, and unrealistic.
This study was intended to investigate the wearing conditions of shirts, and examine the preferred subjective sensation for shirt fabrics. A questionnaire survey was conducted on 469 university students (male students $45.3\%$, female students $54.7\%$) in the Cheongju area, Korea. Frequency, descriptive analysis, $\x^2$ and t-tests were used for data analysis. The results were as follows: Regardless of gender, most owned 4 shirts in the autumn, which were each worn once or twice week. Generally, patterned shirts were less favored than those with solid colors, regardless of gender, but the color of the shirts differed slightly according to gender. Most students gathered items from those displayed in the store as their source of information on shirts, and tended to purchase items worth $30,000\~50,000$ won at franchised stores with friends of the same gender. They almost always looked carefully at the size and brand, but the care label and fiber content were rather neglected during the purchase. While purchasing their shirts, the following elements were considered, in this order of importance: size; color; fitness; comfort; price; tactile sensation. Light, dense, soft, warm, wrinkle-free, dry and strong sensation of the shirt fabrics were the strongest preferences for a purchase. There were partially significant gender differences in the subjective sensation of shirt fabrics.
The study was focused on surveying the cultural identity and the origin of T-shirts, and examining their functions. Six cities were selected to categorize the design motifs of cultural identity appearing in the design of contemporary T-shirts. These cities include a city in France, United Kingdom, Italy, United States and Japan where collections are currently presented at, and also a city in China that has shown a high economic growth as one of the most popular sightseeing cities. Cultural identity was presented in the T-shirts that were examined in this study through diversified design motifs. Motifs used in T-shirt designs to reflect cultural identity included national flags, notable places, letters, names of geographic places, and individuals. A national flag is a motif that signifies national identity and it was used in the front of T-shirts as it is or was just partially used. Also, many world-renowned structures or architectural buildings were applied to T-shirt design. Noted places such as the White House, the Statue of Liberty in the U.S., Tienanmen Square in China and the Eiffel Tower in France were used. The unique characters of language, such as Hangeul in Korea were used as design elements to reflect the structural characteristics of letters. Names of geographic places were used as design elements through the disclosure of the name of a symbolic city or a tourist site in each country. In terms of figures, not only the historical figures or celebrities from each country were used, but the image of bodies and faces that represent each culture were used as well. A total of 345 respondents participated in the survey. Most of questionnaire, frequency, mean and standard deviation were calculated and the differences between the 20s and 30s were analyzed by t-test or ${\chi}^2$ test. The results of the survey are as follows. Grading the satisfaction degree of their body parts, the respondents were relatively unsatisfied with their height, weight, and waist, abdominal and hip circumferences. Majority preferred department stores, discount stores and outlets for purchasing shirts. Many have never owned tailored shirts - men in 20's had less experience with tailoring than men in 30's. The foremost selection criterion for purchasing shirts was fit -during purchase, men in their 20's considered fit more important than men in their 30's. Eco T-shirts have become a part of environmental campaigns following social trends toward eco-friendly designs. With the demand for such designs expected to grow, there has arisen a need for higher product variety. In the past, eco T-shirts were designed to convey messages about the protection of nature through the use of environmentally friendly text or images. However, in order to respond to the preferences and emotional needs of Koreans, designs should cater to their characteristics and tastes. To this end, this study used a Whan-ki Kim-inspired motif to develop an eco-friendly design tailored to Korean perspectives. It is believed that this process can not only result in a distinctive eco T-shirt design, but also make it globally competitive. With regard to research methodology, a total of 41 paintings of Whan-ki Kim were analyzed and classified into four major themes or key values expressed in modern eco-friendly fashion designs: naturalness, indigenousness, harmony between nature and man, and harmony between natural and artificial beauty. Employing a wide range of CAD techniques and varying forms, the themes were developed into 28 T-shirt designs after their forms, tones, and textures were fully explored. This study demonstrates the possibility of designing creative, aesthetic, and high value-added eco T-shirts through motif development. In addition, it successfully integrates Korean paintings in the development of T-shirt designs aimed at communicating environmentally friendly messages.
This study develops tight-fitting torso patterns for performance garments by taking into account the skin deformation generated directly from a 3D scan during arm movements. The skin deformation caused during the arm movements was scanned after scanning the skin surface stamped with a circle. To create a torso pattern in response to skin deformation, the ratio and direction of the skin deformation were first measured and analyzed so that the 3D human body could be segmented. After translating, the 3D skin surface was segmented into 2D flat patterns, designing nude patterns and reducing them as well as tight-fitting shirts: the skin deformation segment shirts were made in response to the skin deformation. The features of the fabric deformation and the garment pressure were analyzed and evaluated. In comparison with a clothing construction segment shirt, the diameter of the skin deformation segment shirt was smaller as well the ratios of extension and reduction was less. The garment pressure of the skin deformation segment shirt was higher. The skin deformation segment shirt fitted more tightly compared to a clothing construction segment shirt as it covered the body more thoroughly and was as comfortable as the other shirts with less fabric deformation made as the body moved.
