  • 선박 회사가 선박을 건조함에 있어 회사의 영업목적에 맞는 건조 사양서를 작성하고, 안전 운항을 확보할수 있고 보수 유지가 용이하며 운항 목적에 부합되는 선박을 갖고자 할 것이다. 그러나 일반적으로 좋은 배란 경제적인 측면, 안전성, 성능, 거주성, 환경측면 등을 고려하여 선주 측에서 본 좋은 배와 조선소측에서 본 좋은 배가 반드시 일치하지 않는다. 즉 사용자측과 제조자측과의 입장이 상이하기 때문이다. 이러한 차이점에도 불구하고 좋은 배를 만들기 위하여 선주나 조선소 다 같이 노력하고 있다. 이러한 관점에서 선주 입장을 대변하는 부서인 당사 신조기술부를 소개하고 초대형 콘테이너선에서 발생하는 여러가지 문제점을 조선소와 함께 해결하게된 배경을 소개하고자 한다.

  • A ship owner has been disappointed with the wrinkle, phenomenon visually occurring at the side shell structure of VLCC(very large crude oil carrier). In order to solve this problem, we have firstly performed a variety of actual measurements. Furthermore, comparing the welding deformation level of DSME(Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd.) with that of SHI(Samsung Heavy Industries), the superiority of deformation control level of Korean shipyard has been substantiated.

  • As ship builder companies have a tendency to pursuit the effect of scale economy, recently the ultra-large sized container ship is discussed very actively among them. It is expected that these situation will be continued for the time being. The need of accommodation re-arrangement is carefully proposed according to the tendency of ultra-large sized ship. In this paper, accommodation re-arrangement of ultra-large container ship is examined in the view of economy. We proposed separation of engine room and accommodation part through review and supplementaition of drawing generation in intial design stage. Also we investigated its merits and demerits to find out whether it can be realized or not in the view of economical efficiency. The RFR(Required Freight Rate) is considered as the objective function to evaluate the re-designed vessel. The economical benefits for increasing the number of TEU(Twenty-foot Equivalent Units)'s and the re-arranged space are analyzed in the view of ship owner and shipyards respectively.

Analysis the factors on the capsize of passenger vessel Sewol (여객선 세월호의 전복 요인 분석)

  • A historical tragic disaster happened by capsizing the passenger ship Sewol at South Western Sea of Korea in 16, April 2014. The ship which left Incheon harbour to bound for Jeju port passed Maengol strait and reached to approach of Byung Pung island, and then capsized and sank with a sudden inclination to the portside in the mean time of starboard the helm. In this time, the ship which has very poor stability without sufficient ballast waters and with over loading cargo listed port side caused by the centrifugal force acting to the outside of turning. A lot of cargoes not fastened moved to the port side consequently, and the ship came to beam end to capsize and sank in the end. No crews including especially captain would offer their own duties in a such extremely urgent time, as a result, enormous number of victims broke out including a lot of student. In this report, author carried out some calculation on the factors which influenced on the stability of the ship, i.e. the ship's speed, the rudder angle, the weight of cargoes and distance of movement, the surface effect of liquid in the tank. We found out that the most causes of capsize were the poor stability with heavy cargoes and insufficient amount of ballast water against the rule, and the cargoes unfastened moved one side to add the inclination as well. Above all, the owner be blamable because of the illegally operating the ship without keeping the rule.

  • Recently, the importance of vibration reduction at the local structure such as tank, deck which attached machinery and compass deck, has continuously increased by owner and shipbuilder. Because crews are afflicted with them and severe vibration problems affect on the crack of structure. This study conducted optimum design to get a stiffener size of local structure to reducing the vibration level and dec leasing the weight of structure in ship. Random tabu search method (R-Tabu) has fast converging time and can search variables size domains for nonlinear problems. This paper used Nastran external call type independence optimization method which makes using a solver module from Nastran.

  • Ship's Bunkering Business is one of the essential businesses creating added values of the port as a hub for a stream of the international logistics. Regulatory considerations of ship's bunkering business should be made to create a more relevant system and stabilize the bunkering industry so that the ports may produce more substantial added values. This paper suggests revisions the Harbor Transport Business Act, the Marine Transport Act, putting forward an idea of unifying safety management systems, establishing a guideline for bunker quality managements, and changing the laws regarding any wrongdoings of bunker suppliers. In conclusion, in order to increase the managerial integrity of the bunkering operators, reasonable burdens should be distributed across the government, refinery companies and ship-owners to achieve a more balanced state and enable long-term development to advance the business at issue, following a step-by-step approach to amend the contract practice, the laws and the systems.

  • Recently, with oil price jumping and environmental issues, Green ship is paid deep attention to by ship owner, operator, builder, class and government. Fuel efficiency and reduction of $CO_2$ emissions are expected to have a strong influence on the design and operation of merchant ships. Many ship owners and operators are seeking the more economic method by the best operating route and the application of reliable and effective energy saving devices. With the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) in 2013 attention will more than ever be focused at achieving maximum fuel economy in the hydrodynamic design of hull forms, their appendages and propellers. IMO requirements for $CO_2$ emission for ships will now be implemented for vessels ordered from 1st January 2013. So far, a lot of new idea and patents have been proposed, tested, claimed and applied for various kinds of ship type. This paper shows numerical and experimental work related to a study on a energy saving devices particularly for fuller ship such as merchant vessel of Tanker and Bulker. From the bare hull wake measurements, typical upper/lower asymmetry of hull wake at the propeller disk was found. The pre-swirl duct have been designed and reviewed to recover the loss of propeller running in that condition. The general function of the pre-swirl duct was set to work against this asymmetry of wake and generate pre-swirled flow into the propeller against the propeller rotating direction.

  • This study aims to investigate the effect of quality management system in the shipping companies on the job satisfaction, organizational commitment, management performance. The quality management system is divided into operational accountability, employee management, crewman management, ship management, and sailing management based on previous study. Targets of survey are companies which are registered in Korean ship owner's association and Korea ship manager's association as of 2011. A total of 236 questionnaires are collected from shipping companies in Basan and Kyongnam from October 15 through November 5 in 2011. The result shows that operational accountability and employee management of quality management systems are mightily important in the shipping company. In the future research, based on analysis of shipping company's characteristics, the study for shipping companies which are perceived by customers could be conducted.

  • Recent growth in global economic situation has led dramatic increase in new buildings of large containerships. These increased new building orders have brought keen concerns of developing and improving the quality of design and increasing the productivity of the vessel in order to satisfy the ship Owner's various requirements. For the increment of productivity and quality of containership, the plastic type bearing pad of cargo hatch cover has been investigated intensively for years with the supplier of cargo hatch cover. The result of investigation showed that there are numbers of advantages for the Owner and Builder over the existing bronze bearing pads which are better corrosion resistance long life time, low friction coefficient, easy maintenance, easy installation, better production lead time and low maintenance cost.
