In 2017, there was an accident in which a cadet onboard training was killed. This cadet worked 12 hours a day. No regulation has yet been laid down to define hours and breaks for interns. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the working status of commissioned training, the satisfaction survey of commissioned training, and to improve the treatment of commissioned trainees. The survey was conducted on students commissioned from merchant vessels, and 461 respondents answered the questionnaire. The results of the survey are as follows. First, 43.0 % of cadets said that they worked 10 hours a day on average, regardless of the vessel type, and 35.2 % said that the average rest time was 8 hours. 15.6 % of respondents said they had worked more than 12 hours. Unreasonable order cases deviating from the purpose of education were "making ramen, working at rest time, instruction of dangerous work, making night snack and private errands." Second, the satisfaction level of cadets who practiced on LNG carriers was high, while the satisfaction level of cadets on bulk carriers and container carriers was low. It was confirmed that the ship's size, ship's age, working hours, rest time and training support costs had little minor effect on educational satisfaction. Lastly, 56.8 % of the cadets answered 'commissioned training is like work.' Based on the results of the questionnaires, we proposed the following improvement methods; providing legislation for working hours and rest time for commissioned training cadets, protection system against violence and sexual harassment and victim protection. This study focuses on the working and rest time of merchant ship's cadet and it is meaningful to investigated the onboard training satisfaction by ship's type, size and age.

This study is aimed to utilize a basic data for setting up an allowable air noise with IMO standard in accommodation and working areas of 24m longer fishing vessels. The air noise in accommodation and working areas of 300 tons class squid-jigger were evaluated and the levels were compared to the allowable levels of IMO. The results indicated that the maximum range of noise levels was estimated to be between 54.8dB (A) and 83.2dB, and the correlation between the distance from the main engine to measuring point and the maximum noise level of each point was shown to be y=-13.8log (r)+92.91 ($r^2=0.821$). In addition, except the case of making an accommodation area near to the engine room in 24m longer jigging vessels, it was evaluated that the accommodation noise regulation of 1,600 tons international voyage vessels with 60dB (A) or an improved noise level with 65dB (A) could be properly applied.

As current international guideline and IMO regulation give severe restrictions for ships to manage ballast water to reduce unintentional organism transfers, several ballast water treatment systems recently have been being developed together with filtration. That is because discharging ballast water from ships causes many pollutions by foreign biological invasive species. The primary treatment system being considered in this study was based on fine screen filtration technology applied to ballast water filter in ballast tank in order to reduce the load of ballast water treatment system. New ballast water filtration system was invented and analysed. The structural stress and strain analysis for ballast filtration systems which are current and invented filters were carried out using UGS and Ansys. The results showed that the structure of current filtering module was not designed to meet the requirement of sea water filtration during ballasting operation. The studies also showed that the invented design of filtration system equipped with back washing and automatic scrapper for eliminating cake of bio-species might be a potentially effective technology for ballast water management of ship's ballast tank.

In the design process of ship or its comprising components, the key to the successful design is how to guarantee the structural safety satisfying the international standard and regulation, which sometimes is not clear enough to cover the detail designs. This study deals with the design procedure for submersible viewing window installed in catamaran. As the window material, the Plexiglass, a type of reinforced plastic, is considered to satisfy the design requirements of international standard. Window thickness is calculated using geometric nonlinear finite element analysis, in order to take into account possible large deformation due to low stiffness of the Plexiglass, and the results are compared with those determined by the procedure specified in ISO12216. Finally, for the validation of proposed design, the pressure test had been carried out following the procedure specified in the standard, and structural safety was checked.
With growing concerns over air pollutions attributed to shipping activities, the international maritime organization has enacted a series of stringent regulations. In particular, MARPOL Annex IV Reg. 16 requires sulfur contents from exhaust gases of marine engines to be progressively reduced. To comply with this regulation, three feasible options have been introduced: using LNG as a marine fuel, using heavy fuel oil with the scrubber system, and using the marine gas oil (a type of low sulfur fuel oil). For the objectives of this paper, the holistic environmental impacts pertinent to these options were investigated and compared in ways that the flows of energy and emission were tracked and quantified through the life cycle of the ship. Research findings obtained from a case study with a large bulk carrier showed that the use of the scrubber system to purify heavy fuel oil would produce relatively fewer amounts of emissions attributing to global warming than other two options. On the other than, the use of LNG would be the way to operate the ship in a cleaner way in terms of reducing the acidification, eutrophication, and photochemical effects. Throughout the analysis, the excellence of life cycle assessment was proven to shift the environmental impact of marine systems from the short-term view to the long-term one.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) will administer a new 0.5% global sulfur cap on fuel content from 1 January 2020, lowering from the present 3.5% limit. Seawater $SO_x$ (sulfur oxide) scrubbing is especially spray scrubbing and a promising alternative to complying with the IMO regulation. However, the ionization of $SO_2$ (sulfur dioxide) and the $H_2SO_4$ (sulfuric acid) formed from $SO_3$ (sulfur trioxide) is proposed to accelerate corrosion of the internal seawater pipe. Apparently, the corrosion of the scrubber seawater piping system occurs in a severe and frequent manner. Hence, in this study, electrochemical measurement and weight loss of carbon steel (used as seawater pipe in most of the ships) in diluted sulfuric acid solution were investigated to determine corrosion rate, corrosion current density, corrosion potential, electrochemical behavior, and impressed-current density. Accordingly, the corrosion rate of carbon steel sheet in various diluted sulfuric acid solutions was observed to be greater than that in natural seawater, thus suggesting the fundamental data to deal with corrosion problems in scrubber seawater pipe.
Purpose - Disputes arising from documentary letter of credit transactions are not decreasing. According to a statistical data from the ICC, 60-70% of letters of credit in use around the world, so, Incoterms rule specifically defines the bill of lading review procedure. Research design, data, and methodology - The refusal due to large or small inconsistencies in terms and conditions when first presenting documents with bill of lading. First of all, confusion was caused by the ambiguous regulation as the bill of lading is a document that serves as evidence of the transportation contract. Result - Bill of lading indicates the rights to the cargo as well as a bill of lading, which is evidence of a transportation contract concluded between carriers, is a document that allows a carrier to receive or ship cargo and ship it by sea. It is a security that promises to be delivered through transportation to the rightful holder of the bill of lading. Conclusion - Because of its importance, the Uniform customs practices for Letters of Credit stipulate acceptance requirements for transport documents, including bills of lading. In addition, the International Standard Banking Practices (ISBP) established by the International Chamber of Commerce also provide supplementary provisions.
Though stringent guidelines are in place to protect the harbor environment, pollution from ships, from the ports terminals. Discharge from the ballast tanks of ships, though illegal, does occur. Such vessels, arriving from distant ports of call, can introduce exotic species of plants and animals, causing disruption of the local food web. Discharges rich in nitrogen can generate the rapid growth of plankton, eventually leading to a condition known as red tide that is lethal to some coastal organisms. In addition to the harbor's negative effects on marine organisms, the diesel engines of the ships and the trucks that haul cargo to and from the ports release large volumes of diesel exhaust into the atmosphere. IMO(International Maritime Organization) is strongly proceeding with adoption of a new maritime environment convention and coming into effect for regulation enhancement about the pollutants which are happened in a ship recently. Study about the conventions that our country currently comes into effect, and there is during forwarding and correspondence must be performed effectively. In this paper, International convention on the control of harmful Anti-Fouling system on ship, Ballast water management, Prevention of air pollution from ships, treat a main pending problem in ocean related environmental regulation convention.

Emergency batteries on board are used for stairs, pathway lights, and emergency communications during alternator black-out. In addition, there are engine start-up batteries in lifeboats. Typically, these batteries are installed under the Classification Rules. However, Since batteries inside life boats are installed in a confined narrow space, it is difficult to perform regular maintenances. Also, even though there are air vents in the life boat, the temperature inside the life boat often reaches above $65^{\circ}C$, which is much higher than the regulation temperature, $45^{\circ}C$. In this paper, we will summarize the accident of battery explosion occurred in MMU training ship, and possible causes. We will propose preventive measures of battery explosions as well as the revision of the regulation.
