  • Distribution systems is consist of network in physical aspect, and radial in electrical aspect. Therefore, radial operation is realized by changing the status of sectionalizing switches, and is usually done for loss reduction in the system. In this paper, we propose a optimal method for distribution systems reconfiguration. Specifically, we use K-optimal algorithm and tabu search method to solve distribution systems reconfiguration for loss minimization problem.

  • To establish the national railway safety system, the railway total safety technology development project has been promoted by Ministry of Construction and Transportation (MOCT) since August 2004. The project is mainly focused on the prevention of a critical railway accident and the reduction of accident/mortality rate. To achieve its goal effectively, the project is composed of 15 sub-projects each of which can be categorized into three different technological area. This work deals with the verification results for the outcomes of the sub-projects carried out at the 2nd year of the project. A new verification procedure is developed and applied to the project based on the system engineering. Three criterions - The suitability of the realization of a function, the suitability of a physical structure, the suitability of a design analysis report - are used for the verifications. The verification results are investigated by calculating standard deviations of scores of each results.

  • Purpose: This study was done to analyze subjectivity of smoking among adult smokers. Method: Q-methodology which provides a scientific method on subjectivity, was used. Result: Five types of smoking among adult smoker were identified Type I, Concerning Significant Others; Type II, Pursuing Psychological Comfort; Type III, Habitual Craving; Type IV, Pursuing Social Relations and Type V, Maintaining Self Control. Stage of change and methods of stress relieving were revealed to be factors influencing the smoking modes among the adult smokers. Conclusion: The five types of smoking and factors influencing them as revealed in this study provide a better understanding of smokers. Smoking styles and subjective values about smoking provide insight for nursing interventions for smoking.

  • An M-shaped SiC gas igniter was fabricated by a reaction sintering followed by nitrogen doping. The igniter showed both resistivity at room temperature and NTC to PTC transition temperature values that were lower than those of commercial igniters. It was deduced that the doped nitrogen reduces the electrical resistivity at room temperature, while, at high temperature, the doped nitrogen and a trace of $Si_3N_4$ phase work as scattering centers against electron transfer, resulting in a lowered NTC-to-PTC transition point (below $650^{\circ}C$). Such characteristics were correlated to the fast heating speed (as compared to the commercial models) and to the prevention of the high temperature overshooting of the nitrogen-doped SiC igniter.

  • Multiperiod optimization is the key step to tackle the supply chain optimization problems. Taking supply and demand uncertainty or prediction into consideration during the process synthesis phase leads to the maximization of the profit for the long range time horizon. In this study, new algorithm based on the Genetic Algorithms is proposed for multiperiod optimization formulated in MINLP, GDP and hybrid MINLP/GDP. In this study, the focus is given especially on the design of the Genetic Algorithm suitable to handle disjunctive programming with the same level of MINLP handling capability. Hybridization with the Simulated Annealing is tried. and many heuristics are adopted for this purpose.

  • The paper focuses on the establishment of optimized bucket path planning and trajectory control designated for force-reflecting backhoe reacting to excavation environment, such as potential obstacles and ground characteristics. The developed path planning method can be used for precise bucket control, and more importantly for obstacle avoidance which is directly related to safety issues. The platform of this research was based on conventional papers regarding the kinematic model of excavator. Jacobian matrix was constructed to find optimal joint angles and rotation angles of bucket from position and orientation data of excavator. By applying Newton-Raphson method optimal joint angles and bucket orientation were derived simultaneously in the way of minimizing positional errors of excavator. The model presented in this paper was intended to function as a cornerstone to build complete and advanced path planning of excavator by implementing soil mechanics and further study of excavator dynamics together.

  • Titanium alloys are vital elements for developing advanced structural components, especially in aerospace applications. However, process design for successful forming of titanium alloys is a difficult task, which has to be achieved within a very narrow range of process parameters. In this paper is a finite element based optimal design technique is presented and applied to volume fraction optimization process design in backward extrusion of titanium alloys.

  • Realtime tide and storm-surge computations for the Yellow Sea were conducted using the Parallel Finite Element Model. For these computations a high resolution grid system was constructed with a minimum node interval of loom in Gyeonggi Bay. In the modeling, eight main tidal constituents were analyzed and their results agreed well with the observed data. The realtime tide computation with the eight main tidal constituents and the storm-surge simulation for Typhoon Sarah(1959) were also conducted using parallel computing system of MPI-based LINUX clusters. The result showed a good performance in simulating Typhoon Sarah and reducing the computation time.
