  • This paper introduces complex-valued competitive learning neural network for spatio-temporal pattern recognition. There have been quite a few neural networks for spatio-temporal pattern recognition. Among them, recurrent neural network, TDNN, and avalanche model are acknowledged as standard neural network paradigms for spatio-temporal pattern recognition. Recurrent neural network has complicated learning rules and does not guarantee convergence to global minima. TDNN requires too many neurons, and can not be regarded to deal with spatio-temporal pattern basically. Grossberg's avalanche model is not able to distinguish long patterns, and has to be indicated which layer is to be used in learning. In order to remedy drawbacks of the above networks, unsupervised competitive learning using complex umber is proposed. Suggested neural network also features simultaneous recognition, time-shift invariant recognition, stable categorizing, and learning rate modulation. The network is evaluated by computer simulation with randomly generated patterns.

  • Pattern classification is an essential step in automatic robotic assembly which joins together finite number of seperated industrial parts. In this paper, a fast and systematic algorithm for classifying occlusion-free objects is proposed, using the notion of incremental circle transform which describes the boundary contour of an object as a parametric vector function of incremental elements. With similarity transform and line integral, normalized determinant curve of an object classifies each object, independent of position, orientation, scaling of an object and cyclic shift of the stating point for the boundary description.

  • In this work, we suggest another method to localize DFT in spatial domain. This enables DFT algorithm to be used for local pattern matching. Once calculated, it costs same load to calculate localized DFT regardless of the size or the position of local region In spatial domain. We applied this method to face detection problem and got the results which prove the utility of our method.

  • At-cut quartz crystal has been applied as chemical vapour sensors. The responses of quartz crystal at 9 MHz coated with phosphatidylglycerol(PG), phosphatidylinositol(PI), phosphatidylethanolamine(PE), phosphatidylserine(PS), and lipid A(LA) are determined for amyl acetate, acetoin, menthone and other organic gases which showed different affinities for each lipid. The identification of odorants depending on the species of lipid used for coating is discussed in terms of the normalized resonant frequency shift pattern.

  • In the present study, we analyzed precipitation patterns and diurnal variation trends of hourly precipitation intensity due to climate change. To that end, we used the hourly precipitation data obtained from 26 weather stations around South Korea, especially Busan, from 1970 to 2009. The results showed that the hourly precipitation was concentrated on a specific time of day. In particular, the results showed the so-called "morning shift" phenomenon, which is an increase in the frequency and intensity of hourly precipitation during the morning. The morning shift phenomenon was even more pronounced when a higher level of hourly precipitation intensity occurred throughout the day. Furthermore, in many regions of Korea, including Busan, this morning shift phenomenon became more prevalent as climate change progressed.

  • This paper presented design for a dipole antenna operated at 900 MHz band RFID tag, and antenna performance varied by the sticked material was experimentally evaluated. When dipole antenna was sticked by the material having a difffrent electric characteristic such as dielectric material, fero-magnetic material and conductor, variations of antenna return loss and radiation pattern according to the sticked material kinds, size, and height between antenna and the sticked plate were experimentally observed and evaluated. When antenna was sticked by dielectric surface, the measured return loss and radiation pattern by affection of different dielectric permittivity ratio showed resonant frequency shift of about 40 MHz and relative attenuation of 1 dB to 3 dB. Even though frequency shift by size variation of the sticked plate was observed, the measured radiation pattern of dipole antenna located on the sticked plate was similar with one without backside plate. In the case of conductor or fero-magnetic material as the sticked ground plate, because of frequency shift and phase difference by distance between dipole antenna and the sticked ground plate, amplitude decrease of radiation pattern at 910 MHz was observed about 5 dB above.

  • Objective : Pattern identification in Korean Medicine is a core value, leading to a quantitative and qualitative increase in related studies. This study aims to identify trends in newly published research and discuss pattern identification. Method : We reviewed studies from 2015 to 2023 using the Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System provided by the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine. The keywords used were: pattern identification, cold-heat, deficiency-excess, exterior-interior, yin-yang, phlegm-retained fluid, static blood, qi-blood, qi deficiency, blood deficiency, yin deficiency, yang deficiency, and four-constitution. Results : A total of 150 studies met the inclusion criteria. These comprised 84 observational studies, including case reports, 2 experimental studies, and 64 literature reviews. Most studies were published in the Korean Journal of Oriental Physiology and Pathology. On average, 17.1 studies were published annually, although the number of studies has decreased over the years. Network analysis revealed that the main keyword in titles was pattern identification (n=122), followed by study (n=68) and patients (n=34). Conclusion : These findings highlight trends in studies related to pattern identification, with a focus on its standardization. Considering the limitations of pattern identification, a shift towards a disease-centered approach is recommended.

  • We investigate the degradation pattern of Black phosphorus (BP) field effect transistor (FETs) was investigated by using an mechanically exfoliated BP that react O2 and water vapor in ambient condition, degradation. The BP FETs was electrically measured every 20 minutes (1cycle) in the air, the total cycle is 100. We show electrical changes with Mobility, On/off ratio, Current and a significant positive shift in the threshold voltage. We extracted the current level at Vgs-Vth = 0, -10, -20 and fitting with Swiss-cheese model. This model suggested that Swiss-cheese model is well fitted with degradation pattern of BP FETs.

  • The FHSS(Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum), in which a transmitter changes its carrier frequency according to a certain hopping pattern, is widely used in the military communication system, since it is highly resistant to deliberate Jamming. However, the difference of BER performance of satellite communication system which using the different modulation scheme and Jamming model was not studied. Thus, in this paper, we consider PBNJ(Partial-Band Noise Jamming) and WPBJ(Worst case Partial-Band noise Jamming) as Jamming models, and evaluate BER(Bit Error Rate) performances of NC-MFSK(Non-Coherent M-ary Frequency-Shift Keying), SDPSK(Symmetric Differential Phase-Shift Keying), and GMSK(Gaussian filtered Minimum-Shift Keying) modulation schemes. Based on the results, we suggest the best transmission method for each condition.
