Statement of problem. The success of the bonding between electroforming gold and resin is dependent on the surface-conditioning technique but its effective technique has net been studied widely. Purpose. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the bond strength between the electroforming gold and resin with varying the surface-conditioning technique. Materials and methods. Sixty rectangular shaped metal specimens were made and one side of each specimen were gold hard plated. The sand-blasted specimens were divided into four experimental groups with fifteen specimens in each group and were treated as follows. Group 1: Silicoating (Rocatec, 3M ESPE)+ Sinfony (3M ESPE), Group 2: SR Link+ SR Adoro (Ivoclar Vivadent), Group 3: Tin plating (Microtin, Danville Engineering)+ SR Link+ SR Adoro, Group 4: Tin plating (Micro tin, Danville Engineering)+ Silicoating (Rocatec)+ Sinfony. Shear bond strength at metal-resin interface were measured using universal testing machine. Energy Dispersive x-ray analysis was done and scanning electron microscope images were taken and observed. Results and Conclusion. The following conclusions were drawn. 1. The mean shear bond strength values in order were 11.69MPa (Group 2), 22.35MPa (Group 3), 22.40MPa (Group 1) and 27.71MPa (Group 4). There was no significant difference in Group 1, Group 3 and Group 4(P>0.05). 2. In the EDX line analysis, the Au was detected on the surface of all specimen. $SnO_2$ showed on the surface of Group 2 and $SiO_2$ was detected on the surface of Group 1. 3. Increasing of roughness by sandblasting(Group 2), formation of micro-irregularities and tin crystals by electrolytic tin plating(Group 3) and formation of surface irregularities and $SiO_2$ layer(Group 1,4) were observed in SEM photo. 4. Tin plating(Group 3) and Rocatec treatment(Group 1) showed clinically effective shear bond strength(>20MPa), but when the two surface conditioning method were used together higher bond strength were achieved.

Pressuremeter test estimates the deformational properties of soil from the relationship between applied pressure and the displacement of cavity wall. It is general to utilize the reloading curve for the estimation of deformational properties of soil because the initial loading curve can be affected by the disturbance caused by boring. On the other hand, the instrumental resolution or the variation of measured data makes it hard to estimate the maximum shear modulus from pressuremeter test results. This study suggested the methodology estimating the maximum shear modulus from pressuremeter test directly, based on the curve fitting of reloading curve. In addition, the difference was taken into account between the stress state around the probe in reloading and that of the in-situ state. Pressuremeter tests were conducted for 15 cases using a large calibration chamber, together with a number of reference tests. The maximum shear moduli taken from suggested method were compared with those from empirical correlation and bender element test.
The objective of this study is to get simulation data about pulsatile flow of a non-Newtonian fluid through a bifurcated tube. All the process was based on CFD method, with a commercial FVM code, SC/Tetra ver. 6.0 for solving, and with CATIA R16 for generating geometries. To define a non-Newtonian fluid, the following viscous models are used; the Powell-Eyring model, the modified Powell-Eyring model, the Cross model, the modified Cross model, the Carreau model, the Carreau-Yasuda model and the modified Power Law model. The flow calculation data using each model were compared with the other data of a existing paper. Finally, the Carreau model was recognized to give the best result with the SC/Tetra code, and the succeeding simulations are made with the model. For the pulsating flow condition, the sine wave type velocity profile is given as the inlet boundary condition. To investigate the effect of geometries and mesh, the pre-test is carried out with various curvature conditions of the bifurcated corner, and then with various mesh conditions. The final process is to calculate flow variables such as the wall shear stress (WSS) and the wall shear stress gradient (WSSG). To validate all the result, the simulation is compared with the existing data of the other papers. Generally speaking, there is a noticeable difference in the maximum and minimum value of WSS. It is not sure that the values in each data are on the exactly same location. However, the overall trend is similar. The next study needs to investigate the same situation by experimental method. Furthermore, if the flow is simulated with more pulsatile conditions, more data of flow field through a bifurcated tube could be achieved.

This is a study on the effect of the dentinal pretreatment method to the bond strength between dentin and glass ionomer cement. In this study, 196 human molar teeth with sound crown were used. The dentin surfaces of these teeth were exposed with wet trimmer and polished with # 800 Emory paper and teeth were divided into 7 groups according to the pretreatment agent and method. Each group has 4 subroups of the kinds of glass ionomers. The shear bond strength were measured by Instron Universal Testing machine model 1122. The data of the evaluations were then subjected to statistical analysis using one way ANOVA and the result were as follows : 1. In Durelon liquid 20 sec scrubbing & Vitrebond filling subgroup, shear bond strength was highest with measurements of 72.41(kg/$cm^2$) and in no pretreatment & Shofu lining cement filling subgroup, lowest with measurements of 4.77(kg/$cm^2$). 2. In no pretreatment group, statistical significant differences were found between the subgroups of G-C lining cement and Shofu lining cement. 3. In Ketac conditioner 20 sec scrubbing group, Vitrebond were bonded stronger than others, and in Ketac conditioner 10 sec passive contact group, it has the significant difference with other glass ionomers except G-C lining cement. 4. The subgroup og G-C dentin conditioner 20 sec scrubbing & G-C lining cement filling was bonded to dentin stronger than the subgroup of no pretreatment & Shofu lining cement. In G-C dentin conditioner groups, both of 10 sec passive contact and 20 sec scrubbing, Vitrebond has highest bond strength among the subgroups. 5. The subgroup of Durelon liquid 10 sec passive contact & G-C lining cement filling was bonded to dentin stronger than the subgroup of no pretreatment & Shofu lining cement. Also in both Durelon liquid groups, Vitrebond were bonded to dentin with the highest strength among the subgroups.
Geotechnical structures such as dams, tunnels, and slopes require regular inspection and monitoring to ensure stability. Domestically, drones and accelerometers have become common tools for inspecting and monitoring various structures. However, drones have difficulty identifying internal changes in structures and the subsurface, and accelerometers generally serve for seismic design or strain measurement purposes. Therefore, this paper proposes to utilize accelerometers to monitor the internal information of the ground on a real-time or periodic basis. The proposed method utilizes a part of the analysis technique from the SASW test to monitor the stability and state changes of geotechnical structures. Cases where SASW was used to evaluate the safety of geotechnical structures, such as slopes, dams, and tunnels, were reviewed to verify the suitability of the technology. To make the proposed method more practical, the study considered using only the first-step analysis to derive the dispersion curve rather than the second-step analysis to determine the shear wave velocity profile, which requires complex analysis. The proposed technique is expected to enable the continuous monitoring and inspection of geotechnical structures by utilizing accelerometers.
Objective: To assess the technical performance of two-dimensional shear wave elastography (2D-SWE) for measuring liver stiffness. Materials and Methods: The Ovid-MEDLINE and EMBASE databases were searched for studies reporting the technical performance of 2D-SWE, including concerns with technical failures, unreliable measurements, interobserver reliability, and/or intraobserver reliability, published until June 30, 2018. The pooled proportion of technical failure and unreliable measurements was calculated using meta-analytic pooling via the random-effects model and inverse variance method for calculating weights. Subgroup analyses were performed to explore potential causes of heterogeneity. The pooled intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) for interobserver and intraobserver reliability were calculated using the Hedges-Olkin method with Fisher's Z transformation of the correlation coefficient. Results: The search yielded 34 articles. From 20 2D-SWE studies including 6196 patients, the pooled proportion of technical failure was 2.3% (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.3-3.9%). The pooled proportion of unreliable measurements from 20 studies including 6961 patients was 7.5% (95% CI, 4.7-11.7%). In the subgroup analyses, studies conducting more than three measurements showed fewer unreliable measurements than did those with three measurements or less, but no intergroup difference was found in technical failure. The pooled ICCs for interobserver reliability (from 10 studies including 517 patients) and intraobserver reliability (from 7 studies including 679 patients) were 0.87 (95% CI, 0.82-0.90) and 0.93 (95% CI, 0.89-0.95), respectively, suggesting good to excellent reliability. Conclusion: 2D-SWE shows good technical performance for assessing liver stiffness, with high technical success and reliability. Future studies should establish the quality criteria and optimal number of measurements.
This study assessed the effects of non-stunning (NS) and head-only electrical stunning (HOES) slaughtering condition on meat quality traits of longissimus lumborum (LL) muscle from Korean black goat (KBG). Ten KBGs (18 months) were assigned into two groups and exposed to either NS or HOES treatments. Blood loss (BL) % was measured after exsanguination, and meat quality traits including muscle pH, meat color measurements (CIE $L^*$, $a^*$, $b^*$, Chroma, and hue angle), water-holding capacity (WHC), Warner-Bratzler shear force (WBSF), and sarcomere length were measured at 24 h postmortem. Results indicated that NS and HOES had no significant difference on BL %, the rate of pH decline, meat color properties, and WHC (p>0.05). It has only a small effect on WBSF and sarcomere length values, but the difference was marginal. These results suggested that meat quality of LL muscle from goat might not be affected by slaughter methods because neither NS nor HOES did result in poor quality of meat.
From the effect of bound water, this study aims to seek the potential reasons for difference of mechanical experiment results of subgrades soils. To attain the comparatively test condition of bound water, dry forming (DF) and wet forming (WF) were used in the specimen forming process before testing, series of laboratory tests, i.e., CBR tests, direct shear tests and compaction tests. The measured optimal moisture contents, maximum dry densities, CBR, cohesion c, and internal friction angle 𝜑 were given contrastive analysis. Then to detect the adsorptive bound water in the subgrade soils, the thermal gravimetric and differential scanning calorimetry (TG-DSC) test were employed under different heating rates. The free water, loosely bound water and tightly bound water in soils were qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed. It was found that due to the different dehydration mechanics, the lost bound water in DF and WF process show their own characteristics. This may lead to the different mechanical properties of tested soils. The clayey particles have a great influence on the bound water adsorbed ability of subgrade soils. The more the clay content, the greater the difference of mechanical properties tested between the two forming methods. Moreover, in highway construction of southern China, the wet forming method is recommended for its higher authenticity in simulating the subgrade filed humidity.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength of rebonded ceramic brackets according to each condition and find an appropriate method to rebond ceramic brackets with proper shear bond strength in clinical practice. Methods: The study consisted of 12 experimental groups, according to the types of brackets, debonding methods, and treatment methods of the bracket base. Shear bond strength was measured, and adhesive residues left on the tooth surface were assessed. The base of the bracket was examined under scanning electron microscopy. Results: The shear bond strength of the monocrystalline ceramic bracket group was significantly higher than thatof the polycrystalline bracket group with only sandblasting (p < 0.05). There was no significant difference in shear bond strength between groups that used rebonded brackets which were debonded with shear force and debonded with laser (p > 0.05). The shear bond strength of the sandblasted/silane group was significantly higher than that of the selectively grinded group with a low-speed round bur and the sandblasted only group (p < 0.001). The retentive structure was more presented in groups where laser was applied than in groups where shear force was applied to debond brackets prior to rebonding. The bracket bases which were treated before rebonding presented smoother surfaces than new brackets. Conclusions: Shear bond strength could be increased by applying a silane coupling agent after sandblasting before rebonding. Also, the bond strength of the selectively grinded group with a low-speed round bur and the sandblasted group showed acceptable bond strength for clinical orthodontic treatment.
