This Paper aims to examine the effect of shear lip formation from cross-sections on fatigue crack propagation rate in order to study the fatigue fracture behavior of the high strength aluminum material (Al 2024-T3). The following tests were achieved from this research. 1. As a result of depressing shear lip artificially by adding a side groove to a specimen, it is shown that the propagation rate of fatigue crack is faster than that of general specimen. 2. Through the two-step load test, the phenomenon that the shear lip decreases In the part of changed load gets observed. Consequently It Is shown that the crack propagation rate gets faster.
Current design equations for shear strength of reinforced concrete columns generally overestimate the shear strength contribution by the circular transverse reinforcement. This is due to the simplification of the discrete distribution of the reinforcement to the continuous one and the imprudent application of the classical truss model to the circular section, which is different in shear-resisting mechanism from the rectangular section. This study presents a rational model for the prediction of shear strength contribution by the circular transverse reinforcement considering the starting location of a diagonal crack, the number of transverse reinforcing bars crossing the main crack and the geometrical strength component of the transverse resistance. It was found that, for lower amount transverse reinforcement, the crack starting point and the number of crack crossing bars greatly influence the shear-resisting capacity. Proposed model leads to a reliable design equation which is derived using a linear regression method and is in good agreement with the lower bound of exact strength curve.

Steel fiber and polymer are used widely for reinforcement material of RC structures because of its excellences of the durability, serviceability as well as mechanical properties. The purpose of this study is to investigate the shear behavior of polymer cement high strength concrete beams mixed with steel fiber. The compressive strength of concrete was based on the 100$\times$200 mm cylinder specimens. The compressive strength of concrete are 320$kgf/cm^2$, 436 $kgf/cm^2$ and 520 $kgf/cm^2$ in the 28 days. The static test was carried out to measure the ultimate load, the initial load of flexural and diagonal cracking, crack patterns and fracture modes. Also, load-strain and load-deflection examined. During the test cracks were sketched against the load values according to the growth of crack. result are as follows; (1) The failure modes of the specimens are increased in rigidity and durability with mixing steel fiber and polymer. (2) The load of initial crack was similar a theory of shear-crack strength. (3) The deflection and strain at failure load of Polymer-steel fiber high strength concrete beams were increased, improving the brittleness of the high strength concrete.

Surface edge crack subjected to contact stresses is analysed. A punch with corner radii is considered to press the semi-infinite plane. Partial slip problem is solved when a shear force is applied to the punch. Dislocation density function method is used to solve the present mixed mode crack problem. The crack length of positive K1 is examined, which is affected by the ratio of the flat portion to the total width of the punch. Surface traction during one cycle of the shear force is evaluated to simulate the fretting condition. The compliance change of the contact surface is also investigated during the shear cycle. It is found that the crack grows during only a part of the cycle, which may be termed as effective period of crack growing. A design method for restraining the fretting failure is discussed, from which recommendable geometry of the punch is suggested.
The factor affecting on the fatigue strength of spot welded specimen have been studied. To analyze and predict crack initiation position and propagation directions on the spot welded area are very important for strength design of the automobile body structure. In fact, there are a various of loads in running automobile but, it is impossible to replay like an actual conditions in the laboratory. So, in this study tensile-shear type and in-plane bending type specimens were used in fatigue test and includes an analysis of fatigue crack initiation position and propagation directions about earth specimens. The results obtained in the present study are summarized as follows: 1. In tensile-shear type fatigue test, the region of fatigue crack initiation position was affected by out-of-plane bending deformation due to bending angle. 2 In in-plane bending type fatigue test, the behavior of fatigue crack initiation position and propagation derections due to angle between upper plate and lower plate was dominated by magnitude of in-plane bending moment.
This study developed a shear strength prediction model of FRP strengthened reinforced concrete beams in shear. The primary design parameters were shear crack angle and shear span to depth ratio of FRP reinforcement. Of primary concern In the suggested model was the FRP debonding failure, which Is a typical fracture mode of RC beams strengthened with FRP, The proposed model used a crack sliding model based on modified plasticity theory. To address the effect of the shear span to depth ratio, the arch action was considered in the proposed model. The proposed model was applied to RC beams strengthened with FRP. The results showed that the proposed model agree with test results.

Rock is a very complex and heterogeneous material, containing structural flaws due to geologic generation process. Because of those structural flaws, deformation and failure of rock when subjected to differential compressive stresses is non-linear. To simulate the non-linear behavior of rock, mechanical crack models, that is, sliding and shear crack models have been used in several studies. In those studies, non-linear stress-strain curves and various behaviors of rock including the changes of effective elastic moduli ($E_1$, $E_2$, ${\nu}_1$, ${\nu}_2$, $G_2$) due to crack growth were simulated (Kemeny, 1993; Jeon, 1996, 1998). Most of the studies have mainly focused on the verification of the mechanical crack model with relatively less attempt to apply it to practical purposes such as numerical analysis for underground and/or slope design. In this study, the validity of mechanical crack model was checked out by simulating the non-linear behavior of rock and consequently it was applied to a practical numerical analysis, finite element analysis commonly used.

In this study, when variable-amplitude load with various applying mode acts on the pre-crack tip, we examined how fatigue cracks behave. Hence aspects of the deformation caused by changing the applying mode of single overload and propagation behavior of fatigue crack were experimentally examined: What kinds of the deformation would be formed at pre-crack and its tip\ulcorner What aspects of the residual plastic deformation field would be formed in front of a crack\ulcorner How aspects of the plastic zone could be evaluated\ulcorner As applying mode of single overloading changes, the deformation caused by tensile and shear loading variously showed in each applying mode. The different aspects of deformation make influence on propagation behavior of cracks under constant-amplitude fatigue loading after overloading with various modes. We tried to examine the relationship between aspects of deformation and fatigue behavior by comparing the observed deformation at crack and crack propagation behavior obtained from fatigue tests.
In this study, the propagation behavior of fatigue crack effected hole defects was investigated under mixed-mode I+II loading. To create mixed-mode stress field at crack tip, the compact tension shear (CTS) specimen and loading device were used in this tests. The propagation experiments of fatigue crack were performed by changing of the loading application angle(${\phi}$) and the distance(L) estimated from pre-crack tip to hole center located side by side by side with a pre-crack. As L changes, the variation for propagation aspect of fatigue crack, fatigue life and crack propagation rate were examined under mixed-mode loading. Under mixed-mode loading, the propagation rate of fatigue crack increased while the propagation direction changed dramatically because of the interference of hole defects.

Crack propagation mechanisms of Sn-3.0Ag-0.5Cu solder were studied in strain controlled push-pull creepfatigue conditions using the fast-fast (pp) and the slow-fast (cp) strain waveforms at 313 K. Transgranular cracking was found in the pp strain waveform which led to the cycle-dominant crack propagation and intergranular cracking in the cp strain waveform that led to the time-dominant crack propagation. The time-dominant crack propagation rate was faster than the cycle-dominant crack propagation rate when compared with J-integral range which resulted from the creep damage at the crack tip in the cp strain waveform. Clear recrystallization around the crack was found in the pp and the cp strain waveforms, but the recrystallized grain size in the cp strain waveform was smaller than that in the pp strain waveform. The cycle-dominant crack propagated in the normal direction to the specimen axis macroscopically, but the time-dominant crack propagated in the shear direction which was discussed in relation with shear micro cracks formed at the crack tip.
