  • Background : Dandruff is a chronic scalp condition characterized by scaling. The common causative agent is now accepted to be the lipophilic Pityrosporum ovale. Obstecive : We conducted a randomized, double-blind, parallel-group study to investigate the efficacy of Herbal Shampoo & Essense and placebo in patients with mild to moderate dandruff. Mathods : Forth-seven patients with dandruff were assigned to one of two treatment goups: Test (contaning the medication) or control (vehicle). After administering through randomizion, two groups were used with Negative sampoo for first two weeks, and used with test or control products for second two weeks. Results : 1. After 2 weeks of treatment, the numbers of P. ovale in test groups were decreased in a statistically meaningful way(p<0.01) compared with control groups. 2. After 2 weeks of treatment, average of sebum-amount in test groups were decreased from 117.55 to 92.88, in a statistically meaningful way(P<0.05, paired t-test) compared with control groups that were decreased from 115.53 to 112.46. 3. In clinical score, average of control groups is decreased from 2.82 to 1.09. on the other sides, average of test groups is decreased from 3.88 to 2.44. The change of test groups is bigger than that of control groups, both two groups was decreased in a statistically way(<0.01) Conclusion : The study demonstrated that Herbal Shampoo & Essense can be used by patients with scalf safely and effectively with almost no side-effect.

  • Total of 7,495 children including 3,908 boys and 3,587 girls from a kindergarten and 15 primary schools were examined for head lice infestation (HLI). The overall prevalence of HLI in this study was found to be 5.8%. Head lice were much more commonly detected in girls than in boys with prevalence of 11.2% and 0.9%, respectively. Sixty-nine children with HLI were treated with 1% lindane shampoo alone (group 1), and 45 children with HLI were treated with 1% lindane shampoo and oral trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (group 2), and follow-up visits were conducted 2 and 4 weeks later, The children who still had HLI 2 weeks after the primary treatment were treated again. At the 2-week follow-up visit, the treatment success rates of groups I and 2 were 76.8% and 80.7%, respectively, and at the 4-week follow-up visit, the rates were 91.3% and 97.8%, respectively. No statistically significant synergistic effect was observed for the combination of a 1% lindane shampoo and oral trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole.

  • Objectives : The aim of this study was conducted to test alopecia by external application with traditional oriental hair care products. Methods : A total of 20 males who visited Daegu Hanny Oriental Medical Center from December 15th, 2007 to September 30th, 2008 were included in this study. In this study, they were treated with the hair care products(shampoo, hair tonic) containing herbs. For 12 weaks hair density and hair thickness content were measured by Folliscope 2.5. Comparative analysis result between before treatment and after treatment was checked. And satisfaction after using shampoo, hair tonic was checked. Results : Change of hair density and hair thickness between before treatment and after treatment (4, 8, 12 weeks) showed significant changes(p<0.05). Comparative analysis result between before treatment and after treatment showed significant changes(p<0.0001). Satisfaction after using shampoo, hair tonic was near good. Conclusions : Considering the above results, we have concluded that hair care products containing herbs have the remarkable effect on alopecia.

  • The infestation status of head louse among children attending primary schools and kindergartens in Chinju-shi, Kyongsangnam-do, Korea, was investigated between June and July 1999. Out of 2,288 children examined, 3.9% of boys (48/1,242) and 23.5% of girls (246/1,046) were infested with nits or adult/nymphs of lice. The effectiveness of lindane shampoo (1% gamma benzene hexachloride solution) was evaluated after one or two time applications to all the children infested. The negative conversion rate of pediculosis was 93.5%. Effective control measures are needed to control and prevent such ectoparasite infestation amongst children.

  • The goal of this study is to suggest the technology and the way of developing ergonomic shampoo device, which is able to adjust the height and to be devided, and it uses ozone water. As a result of developing the device, it can complete better the effect of preventing water splash than existing devices by making neck holding part higher. And it is also made with ergonomic design, therefore, the head of shampoo candidate can be drawn into it more easily. By adjusting water temperature($38^{\circ}C$) to candidate's taste through water heater attached to water bucket, when a candidate is being shampooed, it can help keep warm shampooing without delaying. We could know the process through temperature sensor. And we could also know the utility of its own sterilization(1PPM) and purification. Finally, ozone water was measured for 20 minutes and the ozone concentration was measured to be less than 1 PPM to ensure stability. All parts of the mobile shampoo stand together with the hot water device and the ozonated water conversion device were designed so as not to be inconvenient for the user to use.

  • The structure of the coacervate can dramatically influence deposition on the hair. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of coacervate with a relatively fine and uniform structure on the surface properties of hair and its influence on hair damage. In this study, coacervates of different sizes were explored in 10% shampoo solutions; one solution contained coacervates with non-uniform sizes ($10-300{\mu}m$ average), and the other solution formed a coacervate with a fine and uniform ($1-3{\mu}m$) structure. To study the effect of shampoo on the physical properties of hair and damage to the hair, the hair breakage characteristics, color changes, friction properties, lipid contents and hair surface were examined after using two different types of shampoo. The results clearly show that the relatively fine and uniformly sized coacervate was evenly deposited over the surface of the hair. As a result, the coacervate system can substantially influence the surface properties of the hair such as hair friction, breakage characteristics, and color. The frictional force was dramatically reduced. The use of a fine and uniformly sized coacervate can notably improve hair surface properties. Consequently, hair breakage decreased, and the effect of the coacervate on hair damage was remarkably high.
