Yield Variation in Different Harvest Time of Coix lachryma L. var. Ma-yuen STAPF (율무의 기계수확(機械收穫) 시기(時期)에 따른 수량성(收量性))

  • In order to study on suitable harvest time of adlay utilizing self-feeding combine harvester with four rows, which is originally designed for rice harvest, harvesting were carried out at four different times (40, 50, 60 and 70 days after anthesis) . For efficient operation, appropriate working rows were 2 rows at 50 days after anthesis and working speed was 0.26m/sec at 60 days after anthesis. Theoretical working capability was 11.23a/hr at 60 days after anthesis. As the harvesting was delayed, water content of adlay decreased. Water content of culm+leaf was $69.7{\sim}55.3%$ and water content of grain was 34.2% at 60 days after anthesis. The later adlay was harvested. the higher the percent of ripened grain was. But the immature grain was decreased. Remnants was less than 1.8% at 60 days after anthesis. The later adlay was harvested, the heavier volume weight was. Yield was the highest at 60 days after anthesis. When utilizing self-feeding combine harvester with four rows, which was originally designed for rice harvest, suitable harvesting time was 60 days after anthesis. Therefore, theoretically suitable harvest time was 68 days after anthesis.

Individual Order Intermodulation Distortion Generator Using Series Feedback of Diode and Its Application (다이오드 직렬 궤환을 이용한 개별 차수 혼변조 발생기 및 응용)

  • This paper proposes an individual order predistortion linearizer using intermodulation distortion(IMD) generator for cancellation the third and the fifth IMD of power amplifier. The IMD generator for controlling the third and the fifth IMD consist of common Emitter amplifier and Schottky diode. These signals are generated by series feedback of Schottky diode to obtain the inverse AM/AM and AM/PM characteristics of power amplifier. The individual order predistorters are consisted of individual IMD generator, power splitter and combiner. The test results show that the third and the fifth IMD can be improved by a maximum 13.5 dB and 0.9 dB in case of CW 2-tone signals. Also, the Adjacent Channel Leakage Ratio(ACLR) can be improved 2.3 dB, 2.5 dB at ${\pm}0.885$ MHz, ${\pm}1.23$ MHz offset frequency for CD-MA IS-95 2FA signals.

Axillary Bud Development and Necrosis for 'Heukgoosul' Grapevine ('흑구슬' 포도의 액아 형성 및 괴사발생)

  • This study aims to identify the cause for low appearance of flowers in 'Heukgoosul' grapevines, and determine basic characteristics of the axillary buds and types of necrosis in order to find out their influence on necrosis. As for $1^{st}$ to $4^{th}$ node, the closer buds were located to cane, the smaller the size of buds became. However, there was no difference in the size of an axillary bud in the upper part of the shoot above the 4th node. The bud necrosis occurrence in the $1^{st}$ node was the highest with 32% while buds in $4^{th}$ to $10^{th}$ node were normal with 84~96%. The size of buds in July was the largest with 6.40 mm, while buds showed no difference from August to October. The bud necrosis and main bud necrosis occurred most frequently in October, however accessory bud necrosis took place from July demonstrating no difference since then. The analysis on the relationship between shoot vigor and necrosis of axillary buds showed that the shoot diameter and internodes' length have no co-relationship with axillary bud necrosis, but there were negative relationship between the size of buds and necrosis occurrence, which was the most related to accessory bud necrosis. Therefore, despite the low occurrence of bud necrosis and healthy buds in 'Heukgoosul' grapevines, there was little appearance of flowers in the grapevines, which was attributable to the necrosis in the first bud. In conclusion, the research suggests spur pruning with three nodes kept intact yield.

The Abanones, Haliotis discus hannai, Exhibit Potential Anticoagulant Activity in Normal Sprague Dawley Rats (정상 Sprague Dawley 쥐에 대한 전복의 항응고능에 관한 효과)

  • The primary objective of this study was to determine the effects of abalone in reducing blood pressure and increasing anti-coagulant capacity. The serum angiotensin-converting-enzyme (ACE) activities of rats on an abalone-supplemented diet did not significantly differ from the ACE levels of rats on a normal diet, at any time (before the experiment, or 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, and 4 weeks, after commencement of the abalone diet) during the experiment. This result showed that abalone-supplemented diets had no effect on the activity of ACE, which controls blood pressure. To determine if an abalone-containing diet might increase anti-coagulant capacity, both prothrombin (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) levels were measured. The PT levels of control rats remained constant throughout the experiment. In rats fed the abalone-containing diet, PT levels increased with time, and the increase became statistically significant after 2 weeks, when compared to pre-trial PT levels. Control rats showed no significant change in APTT levels over time. The rats fed abalone, however, showed significant differences in APTT levels. Specifically, when pre-trial APTT levels were compared with 4-week levels, and when 1-week levels were compared with 4-week levels, the differences attained statistical significance. These results indicate that an abalone-supplemented diet may inhibit blood coagulation in normal rats. The results of this study prove the inherent health value of abalone, and may encourage investment in the seafood industry. Future studies will explore other possible beneficial effects of abalone, apart from the anti-hypertension and anti-coagulant effects examined above.

Analysis on the Components of the Elaeagnus multiflora Thunb. Leaves (뜰보리수 잎의 유용성분 분석)

  • This study analyzed components of the leaves of Elaeagnus multiflora as part of studies on the nutritional and functional materials of fruits and leaves of this plant. The moisture content of the leaves was 71.6% and the carbohydrate, crude protein, lipid and ash contents were 24.1, 1.4, 0.4 and 2.5%, respectively. Concentrations of reducing sugars, soluble proteins and polyphenols were 460.0, 503.3 and 805.6 mg/100 g, respectively. Fructose was the dominant free sugar, and arabinose, maltose, glucose, and a small amount of trehalose were also detected. Malic acid was the main organic acid in E. multiflora leaves, and acetic acid, citric acid, lactic acid, and succinic acid were also present. E. multiflora leaves were high in K, Ca and Mg. Of hydrolyzed amino acids, alanine was present at the highest concentration (112.0 mg/100 g), with threonine, leucine, valine and phenylalanine being the next most common. Glutamic acid and ornithine were the dominant free amino acid and amino acid derivative, respectively.

Comparison of characteristics in commercial fermented vinegars made with different ingredients (시판 발효식초의 원료에 따른 특성 비교)

  • The quality characteristics of commercial fermented vinegars made with different ingredients were compared. The pH levels of the persimmon, fig, and brewing and rice vinegars were 3.60, 3.37, and 2.62, respectively. The total acid contents of the brewing, apple, and plum vinegars ranged from 6.33 to 6.57%. The free amino acid contents were detected in the following order: brewing vinegar (521.05 mg/100 g) > fig vinegar (358.89 mg/100 g) > persimmon vinegar (353.02 mg/100 g) > rice vinegar (122.31 mg/100 g) > plum vinegar (103.52 mg/100 g). The free amino acid contents of the commercial fermented vinegars were 56.85~358.89 mg/100 g, and their gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) contents, 0.21~27.22 mg/100 g. In particular, the GABA content of the fig vinegar was 1.3- to 100-fold higher than those of the other vinegars. The total polyphenol compound and total flavonoid contents were detected in the following order: persimmon vinegar > fig vinegar > brewing vinegar > rice vinegar. Hence, the results of this study can provide a new alternative for making functional vinegars containing organic acid and GABA.

Thermotropic Liquid Crystalline Behavior of Poly[1-{4-(4'-cyanophenylazo)phenoxyalkyloxy}ethylene]s (폴리[1-{4-{4'-시아노페닐아조)펜옥시알킬옥시}에틸렌]들의 열방성 액정 거동)

  • A homologous series of side chain liquid crystalline polymers, poly [1-{4-(4'-cyanophenylazo)phenoxyalkyloxy}ethylene]s(CAPETn, where n, the number of methylene units in the spacer, is $2{\sim}10$) were synthesized from poly(vinyl alcohol) and 1-{4-(4'-cyanophenylazo)phenoxy}alkylbromides(CAPBn, n=$2{\sim}10$), and their thermotropic liquid crystalline phase behaviors were investigated. The CAPBn with n of $2{\sim}5$ did not show any liquid crystalline behavior, while those with n of 6 and $7{\sim}10$ showed enantiotropic and monotropic nematic phases, respectively. In contrast, among the CAPETn polymers, only CAPET5 exhibited an enantiotropic nematic phase, while other polymers showed monotropic nematic phases. The isotropic-nematic transition temperatures of CAPETns and their entropy variation at the phase transition that were higher values than those of CAPBns, demonstrated a typical odd-even effect as a function of n. These phase transition behaviors were disscussed in terms of the 'virtual trimer model' by Imrie. The mesophase properties of CAPETns were largely different from those reported for the polymers in which the (cyanophenylazo) phenoxy groups are attached to polyacrylate, polymethacrylate, and polystyrene backbones through polymethylene spacers. The results indicate that the mode of chemical linkage of the side group with the main chain plays an important role in the formation, stabilization, and type of mesophase.

Thermal and Optical Properties of Cellobiose Octa(cholesteryloxycarbonyl)alkanoates (셀로비오스 옥타(콜레스테릴옥시카보닐)알카노에이트의 열 및 광학 특성)

  • The thermal and optical properties of cellobiose octa(cholestryloxycarbonyl)alkanoates CCCBn, $n=2{\sim}8$,10, the number of methylene units in the spacer) were investigated. All the samples formed monotropic cholesteric phases with left-handed helical structures. CCBn with n=2 or 10, in contrast with CCBn with $3{\leq}n{\leq}8$, did not display reflection colors over the full cholesteric range, suggesting that the helical twisting power of the cholesteryl group highly depends on the length of the spacer connecting the cholesteryl group to the cellobiose chain. The isotropic-cholestropic transition ($T_{ic}$) and glass transition temperatures decreased with increasing n and showed no odd-even effect. The transition entropy at $T_{ic}$ increased with increasing n from 2 up 6, but at n=7 it drops significantly and then increased again with increasing n from 8 to 10. The sharp change at n=7 may be attributed to a difference in arrangement of the side groups. The thermal stability and degree of order in the mesophase and the temperature dependence of the optical pitch observed for CCBn were significantly different from those reported for the cellulose tri(cholesteryloxycarbonyl)alkanoates and glucose penta(cholesteryloxycarbonyl)alkanoates. The results were discussed in terms of the differences in the degree of polymerization, the number of the mesogenic units per mole-glucose unit, and the conformation of the molecules.

Interaction of Body Mass Index and Diabetes as Modifiers of Cardiovascular Mortality in a Cohort Study

  • Objectives: Diabetes and obesity each increases mortality, but recent papers have shown that lean Asian persons were at greater risk for mortality than were obese persons. The objective of this study is to determine whether an interaction exists between body mass index (BMI) and diabetes, which can modify the risk of death by cardiovascular disease (CVD). Methods: Subjects who were over 20 years of age, and who had information regarding BMI, past history of diabetes, and fasting blood glucose levels (n=16 048), were selected from the Korea Multi-center Cancer Cohort study participants. By 2008, a total of 1290 participants had died; 251 and 155 had died of CVD and stroke, respectively. The hazard for deaths was calculated with hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) by Cox proportional hazard model. Results: Compared with the normal population, patients with diabetes were at higher risk for CVD and stroke deaths (HR, 1.84; 95% CI, 1.33 to 2.56; HR, 1.82; 95% CI, 1.20 to 2.76; respectively). Relative to subjects with no diabetes and normal BMI (21 to 22.9 $kg/m^2$), lean subjects with diabetes (BMI <21 $kg/m^2$) had a greater risk for CVD and stroke deaths (HR, 2.83; 95% CI, 1.57 to 5.09; HR, 3.27; 95% CI, 1.58 to 6.76; respectively), while obese subjects with diabetes (BMI ${\geq}25kg/m^2$) had no increased death risk (p-interaction <0.05). This pattern was consistent in sub-populations with no incidence of hypertension. Conclusions: This study suggests that diabetes in lean people is more critical to CVD deaths than it is in obese people.

A Comparison Research on the Expected Satisfaction and Actual Satisfaction on VOC of one General Hospital (서울소재 일개 종합병원의 CRM에 대한 기대만족도와 실제만족도 비교와 VOC활용)

  • The Korean healthcare industry is rapidly changing along with the competition among hospitals. In the past, hospitals could make profit without designing competitive management strategies. Thus, they did not find importance in listening to customers' voices and identifying their wants. However, nowadays, the increasingly intense competition is encouraging hospitals to seriously consider competitive management strategies and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) activities to gain a competitive advantage and prosper. It tries to compare the expected satisfaction with the satisfaction of out-patient and in-patient and analysis of VOC(Voice of Customer). This survey was done from 27th, April, 2009 to 8th May and each 100 in-patients and out-patients. The paired t-test and descriptive analysis was used to analysis between before and after satisfaction. The result, the replied out-patients were the highest of I.M department, 43% and in-patients, surgery and other department are the highest each 22.0%. Nurses kindness is statistical significant in out-patients. Doctor, Nurse and staff's kindness and rounding service was statistical significant in in-patients. Totally, the satisfaction was lower than expected satisfaction, so the medical care institutions should analyst detailed the patient's satisfaction by VOC.
