  • We compare the relative usefulness of common basis functions and numerical integration methods in representing complex resonance state encountered in the molecular scattering problem of aluminum dimer electronic predissociation. Specifically, the basis set size and computing CPU times are monitored in order to find the minimum requirement for ensuring the modest accuracy of calculated resonance energies (0.1 $cm^{-1}$) for more than 100 resonance states. The combination of the so-called one-dimensional box eigenfunctions and energy-dependent boundary functions are found to be most efficient if integration is done using the basis set quadrature rules.

  • Let (X, d) be a semimetric space. A permutation Φ of the set X is a combinatorial self similarity of (X, d) if there is a bijective function f : d(X × X) → d(X × X) such that d(x, y) = f(d(Φ(x), Φ(y))) for all x, y ∈ X. We describe the set of all semimetrics ρ on an arbitrary nonempty set Y for which every permutation of Y is a combinatorial self similarity of (Y, ρ).

  • In this paper, we will expand and generalize the orthogonal functions as basis functions for dynamical system representations. The orthogonal functions can be considered as generalizations of, for example, the pulse functions, Laguerre functions, and Kautz functions, and give rise to an alternative series expansion of rational transfer functions. It is shown row we can exploit these generalized basis functions to increase the speed of convergence in a series expansion. The set of Kautz functions is discussed in detail and, using the power-series equivalence, the truncation error is obtained. And so we will present the influence of noises to use Kautz function on the identification accuracy.

  • By use of a simple two-point extrapolation scheme estimating the correlation energies of the molecules along with the basis sets specifically targeted for extrapolation, we have shown that the MP2 basis set limit binding energies of large hydrogen-bonded complexes can be accurately predicted with relatively small amount of computational cost. The basis sets employed for computation and extrapolation consist of the smallest correlation consistent basis set cc-pVDZ and another basis set made of the cc-pVDZ set plus highest angular momentum polarization functions from the cc-pVTZ set, both of which were then augmented by diffuse functions centered on the heavy atoms except hydrogen in the complex. The correlation energy extrapolation formula takes the (X+1)-3 form with X corresponding to 2.0 for the cc-pVDZ set and 2.3 for the other basis set. The estimated MP2 basis set limit binding energies for water hexamer, hydrogen fluoride pentamer, alaninewater, phenol-water, and guanine-cytosine base pair complexes of nucleic acid by this method are 45.2(45.9), 36.1(37.5), 10.9(10.7), 7.1(6.9), and 27.6(27.7) kcal/mol, respectively, with the values in parentheses representing the reference basis set limit values. A comparison with the DFT results by B3LYP method clearly manifests the effectiveness and accuracy of this method in the study of large hydrogen-bonded complexes.

  • Eccentrically braced frames (EBFs) represent an attractive lateral load resisting steel system to be used in areas of high seismicity. In order to assess the likely damage for a given intensity of ground shaking, fragility functions can be used to identify the probability of exceeding a certain damage limit-state, given a certain response of a structure. This paper focuses on developing a set of fragility functions for EBF structures, considering that damage can be directly linked to the interstorey drift demand at each storey. This is done by performing a Monte Carlo Simulation of an analytical expression for the drift capacity of an EBF, where each term of the expression relies on either experimental testing results or mechanics-based reasoning. The analysis provides a set of fragility functions that can be used for three damage limit-states: concrete slab repair, damage requiring heat straightening of the link and damage requiring link replacement. Depending on the level of detail known about the EBF structure, in terms of its link section size, link length and storey number within a structure, the resulting fragility function can be refined and its associated dispersion reduced. This is done by using an analytical expression to estimate the median value of interstorey drift, which can be used in conjunction with an informed assumption of dispersion, or alternatively by using a MATLAB based tool that calculates the median and dispersion for each damage limit-state for a given set of user specified inputs about the EBF. However, a set of general fragility functions is also provided to enable quick assessment of the seismic performance of EBF structures at a regional scale.

  • For a positive integer k, a k-rainbow dominating function of a digraph D is a function f from the vertex set V (D) to the set of all subsets of the set $\{1,2,{\ldots},k\}$ such that for any vertex $v{\in}V(D)$ with $f(v)={\emptyset}$ the condition ${\cup}_{u{\in}N^-(v)}$ $f(u)=\{1,2,{\ldots},k\}$ is fulfilled, where $N^-(v)$ is the set of in-neighbors of v. A set $\{f_1,f_2,{\ldots},f_d\}$ of k-rainbow dominating functions on D with the property that $\sum_{i=1}^{d}{\mid}f_i(v){\mid}{\leq}k$ for each $v{\in}V(D)$, is called a k-rainbow dominating family (of functions) on D. The maximum number of functions in a k-rainbow dominating family on D is the k-rainbow domatic number of D, denoted by $d_{rk}(D)$. In this paper we initiate the study of the k-rainbow domatic number in digraphs, and we present some bounds for $d_{rk}(D)$.

  • The partitioning of related objects should be performed before clustering for an efficient access in object-oriented databases. In this paper, a horizontal partition of related objects in object-oriented databases is presented. All subclass nodes in a class inheritance hierarchy of a schema graph are shrunk to a class node in the graph that is called condensed schema graph because the aggregation hierarchy has more influence on the partition than the class inheritance hierarchy. A set function and an accessibility function are defined to find a maximal subset of related objects among the set of objects in a class. A set function maps a subset of the domain class objects to a subset of the range class objects. An accessibility function maps a subset of the objects of a class into a subset of the objects of the same class through a composition of set functions. The algorithm derived in this paper is to find the related objects of a condensed schema graph using accessibility functions and set functions. The existence of a maximal subset of the related objects in a class is proved to show the validity of the partition algorithm using the accessibility function.

  • Fuzzy neural networks have been successfully applied to analyze/generate predictive rules for medical or diagnostic data. However, most approaches proposed so far have not considered the weights for the membership functions much. This paper presents a neural network with weighted fuzzy membership functions. In our approach, the membership functions can capture the concentrated and essential information that affects the classification of the input patterns. To verify the performance of the proposed model, well-known Iris data set is performed. According to the results, the weighted membership functions enhance the prediction accuracy. The architecture of the proposed neural network with weighted fuzzy membership functions and the details of experimental results for the data set is discussed in this paper.

  • In this paper, we consider the relationship between nonlinearity and correlation immunity of Boolean functions. In particular, we discuss the nonlinearity of correlation immune functions suggested by P. Camion et al. For the analysis of such functions, we present a simple method of generating the same set of functions, which makes it possible to construct correlation immune functions with controllable correlation immunity and nonlinearity. Also, we find a bound for the correlation immunity of functions having maximal nonlinearity.
