High Precision Pressure Control of a Pneumatic Chamber using a Hybrid Fuzzy PID Controller

  • A hybrid fuzzy PID controller for a pneumatic chamber is proposed in this paper. First, a mathematical model of a pneumatic pressure servocontrol system was developed where separate implementations of a PID controller and a fuzzy controller were made. The experimental results using a step input signal revealed that the PID controller accurately controlled the steady-state pressure but did not robustly handle parameter variations in the system while the fuzzy controller provided a fast rise time and low overshoot of the pressure in the system. In order to attain the advantages of both the fuzzy and PID controllers, a hybrid control scheme was developed. The experimental results show that the hybrid fuzzy PID controller proposed in this study does indeed possess the advantages of both PID and fuzzy controllers. Hence, it can be concluded that the hybrid fuzzy PID controller is suited for high-precision control of pressure in a pneumatic chamber.

  • Vertical L/UL (Load/Unload) velocity is very important parameter to determine the L/UL performance, and the vertical velocity is determined by the actuator velocity and the ramp profile. However, it is not easy to precisely control the actuator rotating velocity during the L/UL process. Especially in emergency parking, servo system doesn't operate, it is impossible to control an actuator velocity. Then, the vertical unloading velocity depends on only ramp profile. The ramp height and the sliding length for L/UL process in SFF (Small Form Factor) HDD are restricted due to slimness and small media. For these reasons, it is very difficult to design the ramp profile in SFF HDD. Therefore, this study analyzes the unloading dynamic characteristics for various ramp profiles and makes the thesis for ramp profile design.

  • A variable structure control scheme(VSCS) with sliding mode that can be applied to the process with input/output(I/O) delay is proposed and its control performances is evaluated. The proposed VSCS with and output feedback scheme comprises a variable structure controller, a servo dynamic for tracking the set-poing, and a Smith predictor for compensating the effects of time delay. The robustness against the parameter variations and external disturbances can be achieved by the proposed VSCS even when the controlled process includes I/O delay. And the desired transient response is obtained by simple adjustment of the coefficients of the switching surface equation.

  • A better tracking performance can be achieved, if visual sensors such as CCD cameras are used in controling a robot manipulator, than when only relative sensors such as encoders are used. However, for precise visual servoing of a robot manipulator, an expensive vision system which has fast sampling rate must be used. Moreover, even if a fast vision system is implemented for visual servoing, one cannot get a reliable performance without use of robust and stable inner joint servo-loop. In this paper, we propose a dynamic control scheme for robot manipulators with eye-in-hand camera configuration, where a dynamic learning controller is designed to improve the tracking performance of robotic system. The proposed control scheme is implemented for tasks of tracking moving objects and shown to be robust to parameter uncertainty, disturbances, low sampling rate, etc.

  • In this paper, the FLVSC (Fuzzy Logic Variable Structure controller), of which control rules are extracted from the concepts of the VSC(Variable Structure control) is proposed and diesgned for drum motor(BLDC motor) in home VCR. The FLC (Fuzzy Logic Controller) based on linguistic rules has the advantages of not needing of some exact mathermatical model for plant to be controlled. The proposed method has the characteristics which are viewed in conventional VSC, e.g. insensitivity to a class of distrubances, parameter variations and uncertainites in a sliding mode. In addition, the method has the properties of the FLC-noise rejection capability etc. The computer simulation and experiment using DSP(TMS320C30) have been carried out for the servo control of VCR drum motor to show the usefulness of the proposed method.

  • This paper proposes a design method of a CDBC(Continuous-time Deadbeat Controller)system that takes into account the response between the sampling instant and using second-order smoothing elements. The continuous deadbeat controller is composed of a serial integral compensator and a local feedback compensator introduced into the state feedback loop. A DC servo motor is chosen for implementing CDBC algorithm. Especially according to the variable input and disturbance, corresponding CDBC design method is suggested. A Matlab Simulink is used for simulation with the Motor parameter. By computer simulations, control inputs and system outputs are shown to have desirable property such as smoothness.

  • A new scheme to estimate the moment of inertia in the motor drive system in very low speed is proposed in this paper. The simple speed estimation scheme, which is usually used in most servo system for low speed operation, is sensitive to the variation of the machine parameter, especially the moment of inertia. To estimate the motor inertia value, Reduced-Order Extended Luenberger Observer (ROELO) Is applied. The effectiveness of the proposed ROELO is applied by experiments.

  • According to the rapid growth of high speed and precise industry the application of synchronous motor has been increased. In the application fields, the fast dynamic response is of prime importance. In particular, since the PMSM has characteristics of high speed, high thrust, it has used in high-performance servo drive. From these reasons, it is recently used for high precise position control, and machine tool. In this paper, using the state observer, robust vector position control method for the purpose of improving the system performance deterioration caused by parameter variations is proposed.

  • This paper presents a study on successive approximation measurement of mechanical parameters for motor control system. At the first step of servo system installation, control system gain tuning is troublesome work. Recently, autotuning method of motion controller for motor drive system is based on parameter measurement and identification. On the case of first order mechanical system (mechanical parameters are modified by simple inertia and friction), it is necessary for good response to get the accurate measurement or identification of the mechanical parameters . In this paper, novel method applies the binary successive approximation measurement to the inertia and friction coefficient. Computer simulation and experiment for the proposed method will show verification of accuracy and usefulness.
