  • Servo performance of a disk drive is greatly affected by the mechanical resonance frequencies of the head gimbal assembly(HGA). It is important (actor to allow broader bandwidth for servo system in improving overall drive performance. In this paper, an optimal design for ODD suspension is attempted to increase resonance frequencies. It was decided that the first resonant frequency in tracking direction was higher than 5㎑.   • The precision stage is an essential device for optic fiber assembly systems, micro machines and semiconductor equipments. A new piezoelectric inchworm type actuator is proposed to implement an actuator-integrated long-stroke linear stage. An in-and-quadrature phase (I/Q) heterodyne interferometer is developed as a feedback sensor of a servo system, and a synchronized counting method is proposed. The proposed measurement system can measure the accurate position of fast moving object with robustness to external sensing noise from actuator vibration. The developed servo stage will be applied to optic fiber device assembly system.

  • This paper presents a developing algorithm of checking errors of feed mechanism in the NC machine tool with DAC method. It is useful to check static and dynamic rigidity with relation between lost motion and current of rotor. For checking error of feed in assembly tuning with machining center proposed checking algorithm is useful.

  • The Resistance Spot Welding (RSW) has been considered as an inherently safe and reliable method far joining metals, and has been widely employed, especially in automobile body assembly shops, as a manufacturing process. In recent years, the requirement for more sophisticated quality control procedures has considerably grown in the mass production industries. The object of the application of servo control to spot welding gun is the improvement of quality control in the spot welding, one of conventional industrial areas. The important factors affecting welding qualities (shear strength, nuggest size, indentation depth) are welding current, welding time, and gun press force. Welding current and welding time are controlled by welding timer. But, the conventional welding guns using compressed air are out of control in changing gun press forces in welding process. In this paper, a servo gun welding system having a AC servo motor and a PC control system is presented. The main object of this paper is to estimate the influence of gun press force changes in the welding process (press time -> welding time -> hold time) to welding qualities, and to evaluate welding qualities in real time, by recognizing the patterns of gun press forces changed in the welding process and comparing with the standard patterns.

  • A controller was designed generally using C or assembly languages on high-speed design controller. But, in this paper, DC servo controller is designed using the cord of the block-diagram of SIMTool. By the method, we can design, realized and analyzed a control system quickly in real-time. And we expect that the various plants of a robot vehicles are controled through the outside I/O board changing the structure of the block-diagram of SIMTool into AUTOTool. In addition, our developed system helps the most suitable automatic controller design and tester with hight-speed.

  • In this study, we design a position controller for two axis servo system. The position controller performs numerical control(NC)to DC or AC servo motor or step motor, and also has a digital input/output sequence capability. The control program composed of position and sequence command, which is called channel, is programmed easily and user-interactively. And it is interpreted and the straight line and arc position command is interpolated. We develop the Z80 microprocessor based system and the software with assembly and C language, and also PC based graphic simulator for the debugging and educational purposes.

  • The STW(servo track writing) system which is the process of writing servo signals on disks before assembling in drives uses the spindle motor-chuck mechanism to realize low cost because the spindle motor-chuck mechanism has merit which can simultaneously write multi-disk by piling up disks in hub. Therefore, when the spindle motor-chuck mechanism of horizontal type operates in high rotation speed it is necessary to reduce the effect of RRO(repeatable run-out) and NRRO(non-repeatable run-out) to achieve the high precision accuracy of nano-meter level during the STW process. In this paper, we analyzed that the slip in assembly surfaces can be caused by the mechanical tolerance and clamping force in hub-chuck mechanism and can affect NRRO performance. We designed springs for centering and clamping considering centrifugal force by the rotation speed and assembly condition. The experimental result showed NRRO performance improves about 30 % than case of weak clamping force. The result shows that the optimal design of the spindle motor-chuck mechanism can effectively reduce the effect of NRRO and RRO in STW process.

Repeatable Run-out Reduction by Servo Track Writing in Semi-vacuum Condition for Ultra-high TPI Disk Drive (초고밀도 디스크 드라이브를 위한 반 진공 작동 환경에서 서보 트랙 기록 방법에 의한 RRO 저감에 대한 연구)

  • In high-capacity disk drives with ever-growing track density, the allowable level of position error signal(PES) is becoming smaller and smaller. In order to achieve the high TPI(track per inch) disk drive, it is necessary to improve the writing accuracy during the servo track writing(STW) Process through the reduction of track mis-registration sources. Among the main contributors of the non-repeatable runout(NRRO) PES, the disk vibration and the head-stack assembly vibration is considered to be one of the most significant factors. Also the most contributors of repeatable runout(RRO) come from the contributors of NRRO which is written-in at the time of STW process. In this paper, the effect of NRRO on servo written-in RRO is Investigated by experimentally, and the experimental result shows that the written-in RRO can be effectively reduced through a STW process under low dense medium condition such as semi-vacuum.

Controller Design of Piezoelectric Milliactuator for Dual Stage System (이중 구동 시스템을 위한 압전 밀리엑츄에이터의 제어기 설계)

  • To reach high areal density, less track pitch is expected and more servo bandwidth is required. One approach to overcoming the problem is by using dual stage servo system. In this system, a voice coil motor (VCM) is used as the primary stage while a milliactuator is used as the secondary stage. We have suggested new milliactuator based on the shear mode of piezoelectric elements to drive the head suspension assembly. In this paper, we introduce controller design method, PQ method. PQ method reduces the controller design problem for DISO(dual-input/single-output) systems to two standard controller design problems for SISO(single-input/single-output) problems. The first part of PQ method directly address the issue of actuator output contribution, and the second part allows the use of traditional loop shaping to achieve the overall system performance. This paper shows how to employ the PQ method to meet aggressive close-loop performance specifications for a disk drive system with a VCM and piezoelectric milliactuator.
