  • Purpose: This study examined gender differences on Musculoskeletal disease (MSD) medical status, the characteristics of the approved patients in workers, and the factors affected approval. Methods: Claim data for the MSD to the Korea Worker's Compensation & Welfare Services (2011) were employed. The medical status by gender was analyzed using t-test, chi square-test and multivariate logistic regression models. Results: The number of claims for MSD has continuously increased in females but not in males since 2006. The severity measured by the care duration, surgery experience and disability grade has been substantially higher in males than in females. Age, size of company, types of occupation, work duration and the weight of materials handled daily were associated with the approval. When males were considered, the work duration, the weight of materials handled daily and parts of the body were statistically significant predictors of approval in males. In case of female, there were meaningful predictors in types of industry and parts of the body. Conclusion: These findings suggest that gender-specific risk factors of MSD should be measured and the management program for MSD should be developed.

  • The purpose of this study was to conduct importance and performance analysis of sanitation management in workers at small and medium foodservice industries using HACCP prerequisites. Questionnaires were distributed to 500 small and medium foodservice industry workers in Seoul Gyeonggi province, and a total of 458 responses were used for analysis. Factors with relatively low comparison degree were as follows. 'Handwashing and clean uniform of employee in the workplace', 'regular checking and managing of trapped vermin and rodents', 'checking stocked raw materials', 'recording and filing the results of improved food safety factors', and 'regular cleaning and sterilizing of monitoring tools' factors must be improved along with their performance levels through sanitation education. According to the IPA results, among the 15 HACCP prerequisite factors with high importance but low performance were '2. Regular checking and managing of trapped vermin and rodents', '4. Handwashing and clean uniform of employee in the workplace', '14. Preventing food cross-contamination'. Furthermore, the small and medium foodservice industry IPA with high importance but low performance were 'Regular checking and managing of trapped vermin and rodents', 'Handwashing and clean uniform of employee in the workplace', and 'Preventing food cross-contamination' for the small foodservice industry, along with 'Vermin and rodents control' and 'Recording and filing the results of improved food safety factors' for the medium foodservice industry. Thus, there is a need for reinforced hygiene education through case studies on actual food service establishments to fulfill sanitation guidelines and set amended guides for much-needed items for small and mid-sized food service.

  • The intensification and acceleration of severe competition among companies due to the advancement of the service industry have raised the quality level of services required by consumers, and these circumstances also have a significant impact on the public fields' service provision environment, which has to take into account the rapidly changing technologies along with the special situation of COVID-19. Thus, this study examines the applicability of the educational material based on the framework for public service quality management in accordance with 『ISO18091:2019』 developed by MOIS(the ministry of interior and safety), through a survey after training workers in public institutions. This study also provides some implications and guidelines that should be considered to increase the level of public service quality from the following three perspectives: i) data utilization and verification, ii) broadness of public services, and iii) the size and capability of service provider according to the results of field studies conducted with public sector employees who participated in actual improvement activities.

  • The hazard conditions on plant works of the steel industry have been investigated to efficiently prevent from industrial accidents. The plant works are eventually carried out by workers of smaller service companies where the safety management systems are not well established, on behalf of the main steel company. Based on the preliminary risk assessment on the plant working and open literature reviews, the safety management systems, which can be applied to the plant workplace of each process, are studied and then the step-by-step 4M check-list method is established. Accordingly, the risk assessment technique using 4M checklist for the plant workplace is proposed. In addition, a standardized flow-chart for safety management of plant work is introduced. These risk assessment technique and flow-chart can definitely contribute to the reduction of industrial accidents, considering the risk characterization and the unsafe conditions in small and medium-sized plant workplace, as effective safety management tools and safety guide line.

  • Due to the recent long-term economic downturn, the number of non-store and mail-order sellers is increasing as prospective entrepreneurs are concentrated due to the phenomenon of non-store start-ups with low start-up costs. In particular, in addition to unemployed young people and housewives who lack funds, many office workers who wish to have a 'two-job' are jumping into the business. Therefore, in this paper, we have moved away from provider-oriented service platforms that are dependent on specific networks, operators, and service types. In addition, we plan to design a business integration support system that can provide B2B services in the promotional material industry that contributes to business support and profit generation of wholesale and retail non-store entrepreneurs through sharing and participation. The proposed system is judged to be a business integrated operation support system applying orchestration and service management technology and enterprise business partner management technology that can provide stable operation management service.

  • The purpose of this study is to exploratory analyze the transition pattern of establishments and workers in new growth industries in the metropolitan area from 2010 to 2019 and to identify regional factors affecting the inflow and outflow of new growth industry start-ups. As for the analysis, the original data of the Census on Establishments were used, and spatial data at the sigungu level were constructed based on the inflow and outflow data of the number of new growth industry businesses and workers. For the analysis, the degree centrality of connection to outflow inflow by region was calculated, and an empirical analysis was conducted on regional-level factors affecting the inflow and outflow of new growth industries by applying a negative binomial regression model. According to the results, the new growth industry manufacturing sector was actively relocated in southern Gyeonggi Province, and the new growth industry service sector in Gangnam and Guro-Geumcheon-gu, and the impact of regional-level factors on the inflow and outflow of new growth industry start-ups varies depending on the industry. This study presented implications for regional industrial policies to improve the competitiveness of the local economy by attracting new industries by identifying spatial transition patterns for new growth industries and conducting empirical analysis to identify influencing factors.

It was found that as the size of the restaurants grew, the respondents perceived the shortage of labor as the hardest part of running a business : 4) Respondents agreed that employing good foodservice workers was the most important part of foodservice management. Owners also believed that they needed more research time for menu and service development 5) To be successful, the restaurant owners paid the most careful attention to food taste. Service, sanitation, and menu development were also emphasized. Respondents stressed the focus on service, good relationships, diligence, and faithfulness in order to be a good restaurant owner. The results of this research suggest that restaurant owners should have more professional conscientiousness to succeed in their own businesses, as well as improve the quality of the foodservice industry. Other important aspects related to the overall improved quality of the foodservice industry are: the continuation of government support, the enlargement of educational opportunities and greater respect for foodservice employees.
