Advanced Induction Heating Equipment using Dual Mode PWM-PDM Controlled Series Load Resonant Tank High Frequency Inverters

  • In this paper, a novel type auxiliary active edge resonant snubber assisted zero current soft switching pulse modulation Single-Ended Push Pull (SEPP) series load resonant inverter using IGBT power modules is proposed for cost effective consumer high-frequency induction heating (IH) appliances. Its operating principle in steady state is described by using each switching mode's equivalent operating circuits. The new multi resonant high-frequency inverter with series load resonance and edge resonance can regulate its high frequency output power under a condition of a constant frequency zero current soft switching (ZCS) commutation principle on the basis of the asymmetrical pulse width modulation (PWM) control scheme. Brand-new consumer IH products using the proposed ZCS-PWM series load resonant SEPP high-frequency inverter using IGBTs is evaluated and discussed as compared with conventional high-frequency inverters on the basis of experimental results. In order to extend ZCS operation ranges under a low power setting PWM as well as to improve efficiency, the high frequency pulse density modulation (PDM) strategy is demonstrated for high frequency multi-resonant inverters. Its practical effectiveness is substantially proved from an application point of view.

  • In this paper we propose a series active power filter and a simple calculation method acquiring the reference voltage. A series active power filter is suitable to suppress harmonics produced by voltage type harmonic source such as a diode rectifier with filter capacitor on the DC side The proposed series active power filter system is applied to 3-phase 3-wire power system including the voltage type harmonic source. Experimental result obtained from a laboratory model are shown to verify the viability and effectiveness of the proposed system.

ZVT Series Capacitor Interleaved Buck Converter with High Step-Down Conversion Ratio

  • Voltage step-down converters are very popular in distributed power systems, voltage regular modules, electric vehicles, etc. However, a high step-down voltage ratio is required in many applications to prevent the traditional buck converter from operating at extreme duty cycles. In this paper, a series capacitor interleaved buck converter with a soft switching technique is proposed. The DC voltage ratio of the proposed converter is half that of the traditional buck converter and the voltage stress across the one main switch and the diodes is reduced. Moreover, by paralleling the series connected auxiliary switch and the auxiliary inductor with the main inductor, zero voltage transition (ZVT) of the main switches can be obtained without increasing the voltage or current stress of the main power switches. In addition, zero current turned-on and zero current switching (ZCS) of the auxiliary switches can be achieved. Furthermore, owing to the presence of the auxiliary inductor, the turned-off rate of the output diodes can be limited and the reverse-recovery switching losses of the diodes can be reduced. Thus, the efficiency of the proposed converter can be improved. The DC voltage gain ratio, soft switching conditions and a design guideline for the critical parameters are given in this paper. A loss analysis of the proposed converter is shown to demonstrate its advantages over traditional converter topologies. Finally, experimental results obtained from a 100V/10V prototype are presented to verify the analysis of the proposed converter.

  • 지난 수년 동안 고집적 변압기를 이용한 고집적 전원장치가 연구되어 왔다 이러한 고집적 전원장치를 구현하기 위해 직렬 공진컨버터가 꾸준히 적용되어 왔으며, 본 논문에서는 고집적 LLCT 평면 변압기를 적용한 Half-bridge 직렬 공진컨버터에 대해 서술하였다. 뿐만 아니라 고집적 LLCT 평면 변압기 구조에 대해 FEMM을 이용하여 해석하였고, 이론적인 해석과 300W급 시제품을 제작하여 실험 결과를 증명하였다.

  • 본 논문은 직렬공진 인버터를 이용한 고전압 커패시터 충전형 전원장치(CCPS)에 관하여 기술하였다. 본 논문에서 사용된 고전압 CCPS는 PLL제어를 사용한 45[Khz]의 직렬공진 인버터를 사용하여 고효율제어를 하였으며, 고전압 변압기를 사용하였다. CCPS의 성능을 평가하기 위하여 14[nF]의 부하에 100[kV]의 출력전압을 300[Hz]의 방전주기를 가지고 실험하였다. 실험결과 최대출력은 18.75[kJ/sec]이고, 방전시간은 200[Hz]로 운전하였으며, 충전시간은 4.5[mS]임을 확인하였다.

  • 본 연구에서는 기존의 구조와 대등한 용량을 가지면서도 module내부에서 capacitor가 차지하는 부피를 최소화하고, 특히 기생 직렬 인덕턴스 값을 최소화할 수 있는 구조를 고안하였다. 이 과정에서 위에서 언급한 via의 위치, 길이, 개수등에 의한 특성을 분석하고 이를 최적화 하였다. HP사의 HFSS를 통해 이 구조의 특성을 검증하고 등가 회로 분석을 통해 기생 직렬 인덕턴스 값을 계산하였다. 이를 화인하기 위해 LTCC재료를 이용하여 실제로 시작품을 제작하여 직접 측정하였다. 이러한 buried type의 수동소자를 가장 정확하게 측정할 수 있는 방법을 고안하였고, 이 과정에서 측정을 위한 via, strip line 의 특성들을 모두 수치화하여 내장되어 있는 capacitor 만의 특성을 얻어내었다.

LED 비상 유도등을 위한 하이브리드 슈퍼커패시터 모듈의 동작 특성 (The Operation Characteristics of Hybrid Supercapacitor Module for LED Emergency Luminaires)

  • Hybrid supercapacitors with high power density and long cycle life are widely used for emergency power source of LED emergency luminaires. In this paper, we designed and fabricated a hybrid capacitor cell and a module for the LED emergency luminaires. Using hybrid supercapacitor cells (1,000 F, 2.8 V), we designed a module in a 10-year warranty considering aging and ESR. Considering the ESR and efficiency has been designed to module with 1,000 F 5.6 V design results in 2 series and 2 parallel combination. Module was used to confirm that the operation 77.5 minutes at room temperature, discharge LED emergency luminaires with 2 W. As a LED emergency luminaires of emergency power supply that we can support more than 10 years of life was confirmed the applicability of hybrid supercapacitor.

  • Switching Mode Power Supply(SMPS) is widely used in many industrial fields. Power factor improvement and harmonic reduction technique are very important in SMPS. In this paper, we propose the circuit applied Flying Capacitor Snubber for improving power factor of boost converter on fast switching state. Snubber circuit consists of a inductor, two diodes and a capacitor. The losses of switching are reduced by inserting a snubber inductor in the series path of the boost switch and the rectifier diode to control the di/dt rate of the rectifier during it's turn-off. Prior to actual experiment, the circuit analysis Is implemented by PSPICE simulation.

  • This paper presents a method to reduce hysteresis in multilayer ceramic actuator by connecting the actuator with a capacitor in a series circuit. The change in hysteresis with respect to the capacitor was examined. $0.2Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-0.8Pb(Zr_{0.475}Ti_{0.525})O_3$ ceramic material was used as a piezoelectric material for the actuator. Displacement of the actuator was measured in a capacitive gap sensor measuring system. In case of inserting a capacitor in a total circuit, hysteresis became dramatically decreased, and then finally the hysteresis value can be reduced below $0.2\%$. It was found in this present study that reducing the hysteresis in the actuator is dependent upon the characteristics of the capacitor in total circuit and also operating frequency.

  • This paper presents an improved phase-shift pulse-width modulation (PWM) full-bridge converter using a blocking capacitor. As the proposed converter reduces the circulation energy by inserting only one series blocking capacitor at the primary side of the conventional phase-shift PWM full-bridge converter structure, it improves the operation characteristics of the conventional converter. In this paper, first, the operation of conventional phase-shift PWM full-bridge converter is roughly reviewed, and then the operational principle of the proposed converter is classified and explained by each mode. After that, a prototype design example based on the operational principle is shown. Then, the improved operation characteristics of the proposed converter are actually verified through the experimental results.
