Numerical Simulation on the Performance of Axial Vane Type Gas-Liquid Separator with Different Guide Vane Structure

  • In order to obtain high efficiency and low resistance droplet separation apparatus, axial vane type gas-liquid separators with different guide vanes were designed, and the RNG $k-{\varepsilon}$ model as well as discrete phase model (DPM) were used to investigate the flow pattern inside the separators. It was shown that the tangential velocity distribution under different guide vanes have Rankine vortex characteristics, pressure distribution exhibits a high similarity which value becomes big as the increase of the blade outlet angle and the decrease of the guide vane numbers. The increase of the guide vane numbers and the decrease of the blade outlet angle could make separation improve significantly. The separation efficiency is almost 100% when the droplet diameter is bigger than $40{\mu}m$.

  • Stainless steels have been widely considered as metallic separators, due to their passive surface film, which is good for corrosion resistance. However, the high resistivity of the passive film increases interfacial contact resistance between the separators and electrodes. Stainless steels thermal spray coated with a mixture of tungsten carbide and stainless steel powders showed that the coated layer safely combined with the matrix but they suffered many internal defects including voids and cracks. Many cracks were formed in the coated layer and the interface of the matrix and the coated layer during the rolling process. The coated and rolled stainless steels showed lower interfacial contact resistance and corrosion resistance than bare stainless steel because of low resistivity of tungsten carbide and numerous defects, which caused crevice corrosion, in the coated layer.

Electrochemical and Safety Performances of Polyimide Nano fiber-based Nonwoven Separators for Li-ion Batteries

  • In this study, cell performance and thermal stability of lithium-ion cells with a polyimide (PI) separator are investigated. In comparison to conventional polyethylene (PE) separator, the PI separator exhibits distinct advantage in microporous structure, leading to superior reliability of the cell. The cells with PI separator exhibit good cell performances as same as the cells with PE separator, but their reliability was superior to the cell with PE separator. Especially in the hot-box test at 150 and 180℃, PI separator showed a contraction percentage close to 0% at 150℃, while the PE separator showed a contraction percentage greater than 10% in both width and length. Therefore, the PI separator can be the promising candidate for separators of the next generation of lithium-ion battery.

삭제나무를 이용한 새로운 순서화 방법 (A New Ordering Method Using Elimination Trees)

  • Ordering is performed to reduce the amount of fill-ins of the Cholesky factor of a symmetric positive definite matrix. This paper proposes a new ordering algorithm that reduces the fill-ins of the Cholesky factor iteratively by elimination tree rotations and clique separators. Elimination tree rotations have been used mainly to reorder the rows of the permuted matrix for the efficiency of storage space management or parallel processing, etc. In the proposed algorithm, however, they are repeatedly performed to reduce the fill-ins of the Cholesky factor. In addition, we presents a simple method for finding a minimal node separator between arbitrary two nodes of a chordal graph. The proposed reordering procedure using clique separators enables us to obtain another order of rows of which the number of till-ins decreases strictly.

  • Magnetic separation technology is an efficient and environmentally friendly technology. Compared with the traditional wastewater treatment technology, the magnetic separation technology has its unique advantages and characteristics, and has been widely applied in the field of wastewater treatment. In particular, the emergence of superconducting magnetic separation technology makes possible for high application potential and value. In this paper, which through consulting with the literatures of Korea, Chinese, United States and other countries, the magnetic separation technology applied to wastewater treatment was mainly divided into direct application of magnetic field, flocculation, adsorption, catalysis and separation coupling technology. Advantages and limitations of the magnetic separation technology in sewage treatment and its future development were also studied. Currently, magnetic separation technology needs to be studied for additional improvement in processing mechanism, design optimization of magnetic carrier and magnetic separator, and overcoming engineering application lag. The selection, optimization and manufacturing of cheap magnetic beads, highly adsorbed and easily desorbed magnetic beads, specific magnetic beads, nanocomposite magnetic beads and the research of magnetic beads recovery technology will be hot application of the magnetic separation technology based on the magnetic carriers in wastewater treatment. In order to further reduce the investment and operation costs and to promote the application of engineering, it is necessary to strengthen the research and development of high field strength using inexpensive and energy-saving magnet materials, specifically through design and development of new high efficiency magnetic separators/filters, magnetic separators and superconducting magnetic separators.

Polyethersulfone-PVP 용액의 상전이를 통한 아연공기전지의 다공성 분리막 제조 (Preparation of Porous Separators for Zn Air Batteries Through Phase Inversions of Polyethersulfone-PVP Solutions)

  • 본 연구에서는 아연공기전지용 분리막으로 사용하기 위한 다공성 막을 Polyethersulfone (PES) 용액의 상전이법을 이용하여 제조하였다. 캐스팅 용액은 PES/polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP)/N-methylpyrrolidone(NMP) 용액으로 그리고, 비용매는 물을 사용하여 분리막을 제조하였다. 제조된 분리막을 이용하여 아연공기전지를 제작하였다. 분리막의 모폴로지는 캐스팅 용액 내의 PES 및 PVP의 함량을 통해 조절하였다. 제조된 분리막의 기계적 특성, 이온전도도 및 모폴로지는 인장실험, impedance 실험 및 SEM을 이용하여 측정하였다. 아연공기전지의 성능은 current interrupt method (CIM)와 정전류 방전실험을 통하여 측정하였다. 캐스팅 용액 내의 PES 함량이 증가함에 따라 기계적 강도는 증가한 반면 이온전도도는 감소하였다. 반면, 캐스팅 용액 내의 PVP 함량이 증가함에 따라 이온전도도는 증가하였지만 기계적 강도는 감소하였다. 이와 같은 이온전도도 경향의 아연공기전지 내에서의 효과는 current interrupt method와 정전류 방전실험에서 확인되었다. PES 함량이 높은 캐스팅 솔루션의 분리막으로 제조된 전지는 높은 IR 손실과 낮은 방전용량을 보였으며, PVP 함량이 높은 캐스팅 솔루션의 분리막으로 제조된 전지는 낮은 IR손실과 높은 방전용량을 보였다.

  • 리튬 이온 전지의 양극과 음극 사이에 물리적인 층을 만들어주는 분리막은 분리막의 품질에 따라 리튬 이온 전지의 성능을 결정함에 따라 많은 관심을 받고 있다. 일반적으로 전기화학적 안정성과 적절한 역학적 강도를 갖고 있는 폴리에틸렌과 폴리프로필렌으로 구성된 다공성 막이 리튬 이온 전지의 분리막으로 사용된다. 하지만 폴리에틸렌과 폴리프로필렌의 낮은 열 저항성과 젖음성으로 인해 리튬 이온 전지의 잠재력을 충분히 끌어내지 못한다. 녹는점 이상의 온도에 도달하게 되면 분리막의 구조가 변형되고 리튬 이온 전지는 단락된다. 분리막의 낮은 젖음성은 낮은 이온전도도와 부합하고, 이는 전지의 저항을 상승시킨다. 이러한 폴리에틸렌과 폴리프로필렌 분리막의 단점을 극복하고자 이중 전기방사방법, 코팅 층 도포 방법, 코어 셸 구조 형성 방법, 제지법 등 여러 가지 방법들이 연구되었다. 언급된 방법들로 합성된 분리막들은 열 저항성과 젖음성이 크게 향상되었고 유연성과 인장 강도 같은 역학적 특성도 향상되었다. 본 리뷰 논문에는 각기 다른 방법으로 형성된 리튬이온 전지의 분리막에 대해서 다루고 있다.

기액이상류 원심분리기의 성능개선에 관한 연구 (A Study of the Performance Improvement of a Centrifugal Separator for Gas-Liquid Two-Phase Flow)

  • Gas-liquid separator has been designed for the sake of reducing expenses associated with production operations. To date, a number of gas-liquid separators have been installed and put to use for various applications. Despite the advantages of simple and compact configuration of separator with no moving part, its efficient operation is limited in terms of total pressure losses, separation performance and flow-induced noise and vibration, which are closely associated with the very complicated flow phenomena involved. In the present study, a gas-liquid centrifugal separator with a swirl vane is investigated for the purpose of water separation from compressed moisture air. The 3D Navier-Stokes equations are numerically solved using a fully implicit finite volume scheme. Based upon the obtained solutions, tangential velocities, centrifugal forces, vortices and total pressure losses are analyzed to find out the best design parameters. From the present study, several attempts are made to improve the performance of conventional separators of centrifugal type.
