Effect of Sensory Stimulation Type on Brain Activity in Elderly Persons with Mild Cognitive Impairment

  • Background: Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is also called as aging related memory damage. Decreased cognitive function due to aging is known to be associated with the frontal lobe. Alpha wave is generated in the dominance in the frontal lobe or a wide range of regions in the brain, it should be doubted that the brain function might be degraded. Objective: To determine the effect of sensory stimulation type on learning and brain activity pattern of elderly persons with MCI. Design: Randomized Controlled Trial (single blind) Methods: Twenty elderly persons aged more than 65 with MCI were randonmized to simultaneous visual/auditory stimulation group (SVASG) and or auditory stimulation group (ASG). Ten peoples were assigned to each group and lectroencephalogram test was performed to individuals. In the electroencephalogram test, electroencephalography of prior to sensory stimulation, and during sensory stimulation were measured to compare brain activity pattern according to the study groups and measurement period. Results: The relative alpha power due to a sensory stimulation type showed that the SVASG significantly decreased in the left frontal lobe and the left parietal lobe statistically compared to those of the ASG while sensory stimulation was given (p<.05). The relative beta power due to a sensory stimulation type showed that the SVASG significantly increased in the left and right frontal lobes, the left and right parietal lobes, and the left temporal lobe statistically compared to those of the ASG while sensory stimulation was given (p<.05). Conclusions: Electroencephalographic analysis showed that the type of sensory stimulation can affect the brain activity pattern. However, the effects were not studied that which brain activity pattern help to improved cognitive function of elderly persons with mild cognitive impairment.

헛개열매 간장의 알코올 분해 활성 및 관능적 품질 특성 (Alcohol Dehydrogenase Activity and Sensory Evaluation of Hutgae (Hovenia dulcis Thunb) Fruit Soy Sauce)

  • The objective of this study was to investigate free amino acid composition, antioxidant activity, alcohol dehydrogenase activity and the sensory quality attributes for the development of functional soy sauce using Hutgae (Hovenia dulcis Thunb) fruit, which is well-known for improving liver function and alleviating various negative physiological effects following heavy consumption of alcoholic beverages. Soy sauces adding six types of extract from Hutgae fruit (HF) were prepared (SSH1: HF 20%, SSH2: HF 10%, SSH3: HF 20%/40 days NaCl extract, SSH4: HF 20%/20 days NaCl extract, SSH5: HF 20% water bath extract, SSH6: freeze-drying powder from HF 20% aqueous extract), compared with soy sauce using the conventional method. These soy sauces were used for determining alcohol dehydrogenase activity by NADH absorbance, the antioxidant effect by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity and sensory evaluation by sensory scaling. Total free amino acid contents for most samples were in the range of 327.3 to 375.5 mg%, and then, aspartic acid and glutamic acid content of SSH1 and SSH5 were higher than that of others. DPPH radical scavenging activity was shown to be the highest in SSH4, also SSH1, SSH5 and SSF6 were shown to be higher than the control group. Alcohol dehydrogenase activity was shown to be the highest in SSH5. In sensory evaluation, the highest intensity of roast smell was observed in SSH4 while sweet taste was shown to be the highest in SSH5, and SSH3 and SSH5 revealed higher overall acceptability. From these results, Hutgae fruit soy sauces demonstrated antioxidant activity and alcohol dehydrogenase activity. In conclusion, soy sauces containing the water bath extract of Hutgae fruit may be used as a functional seasoning.

가미보중익기탕이 배양 척수감각신경세포의 LDH 활성도에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Gamibojungikki-tang on LDH activity of Cultured Spinal Sensory Neurons)

  • In order to darify the neuroprotective effect of Gamibojungikki-tang(GBJIKT) water extract on cultured mouse spinal sensory neuron damaged by glucose Oxidase (GO), NR (Neutral Red) assay and LDH (Lactate Dehydrogenase) activity assay were carried out after the cultured mouse spinal sensory neuron were preincubated with various concentrations of GBJIKT water extract for 3 hours prior to exposure of GO. Cell viability of cultured mouse spinal sensory neurons exposed to various concentrations of GO for 8 hours was decreased in a dose-dependent manner. NR/sub 50/ values were 50 mU/ml GO. Cultured mouse spinal sensory neurons in the medium containing various concentration of GO for 8 hours showed increasing of LDH activity. We knew that GO was toxic on cultured spinal sensory neurons. Pretreatment of GBJIKT water extract for 3 hours following GO prevented the GO-induced neurotoxicity such as increasing of LDH activity. These results suggest that GO shows toxic effect on cultured spinal sensory neurons and GBJIKT water extract is highly effective in proecting the neurotoxicity induced by GO.

구강활동을 병행한 감각통합치료가 발달장애 아동의 호흡 및 구강협응능력에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of Oral Activity With Sensory Integration Intervention on Breathing and Oral Diadochokinetic Movement of a Child With Developmental Disability)

  • 목적 : 본 연구는 구강활동을 병행한 감각통합치료가 발달장애 아동의 호흡과 구강협응능력에 미치는 효과를 알아보고자 하였다. 연구 방법 : 연구대상은 G시에 거주하는 만 6세 7개월의 남아로, 발달장애 진단을 받았다. 연구는 2012년 11월부터 2013년 2월까지 실시하였다. 실험은 개별실험연구 중 AB디자인을 사용하였다. 실험과정은 기초선(A) 3회기, 중재(B) 16회기이었다. 기초선 기간 동안에는 감각통합치료를 실시하였고, 중재기간동안에는 감각통합치료에 구강활동을 병행하여 실시하였다. 호흡기능은 폐활량 측정계로 측정하였으며, 구강협응능력은 "파타카(pataka)"를 10회 반복할 때 소요된 시간을 초단위로 측정하였다. 결과 : 아동의 호흡과 구강협응능력은 기초선과 비교하여 중재기간 동안 유의하게 증가하였다. 결론 : 구강활동을 병행한 감각통합치료가 아동의 호흡과 구강협응능력 향상에 긍정적이었다.

대한감각통합치료학회 창립 20주년 학술대회: PLAY inSIde 캠프 보고 (The 20th Anniversary of the Korean Academy of Sensory Integration (KASI): PLAY inSIde Camp Report)

  • 목적 : 본 문헌은 대한감각통합치료학회가 창립 20주년을 맞이하여 개최한 감각통합과 놀이를 연결하는 PLAY inSIde 캠프에 대한 보고이다. 본론 : 캠프의 주요 프로그램은 만 5~6세 발달장애아동을 대상으로 감각통합에 근거를 둔 그룹 활동으로 구성되었다. 캠프는 오프닝 전체 활동 프로그램, 조별 활동 프로그램, 조별 포스트 활동 프로그램, 클로징 전체 활동 프로그램으로 진행되었고, 아동들이 놀이 활동에 참여하는 동안 부모들은 감각통합 부모교육에 참여하였다. 캠프에 참여한 치료사들은 사전 모임과 리허설 시간을 가지며 활동을 계획 및 진행하였고 이 과정에서 치료사들 간의 토의와 서포터의 지원이 있었다. 캠프 후 설문과 토의를 진행 결과, 치료사와 보호자는 캠프 참여에 만족하였고 공동작업을 의미 있게 경험하였다. 결론 : 캠프를 통해 아동들은 다른 아동들과 함께 놀이 활동을 경험하고, 치료사는 다른 치료사들과 전문성을 나누며 교류하고, 학회는 그간 축적된 자원들을 사회에 기여하였다. PLAY inSIde가 초석이 되어 향후 감각통합에 근거를 둔 사회 참여 활동들이 활발해지기를 기대해 본다.

The Effect of 24-week Sensory Integration Activity Training on fitness of Children with Intellectual disability

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the effect of 24-week sensory integration activity training on fitness of children with intellectual disability. Research design, data, and methodology: The subjects were 10 children with intellectual disability, 60 min training of sensory integration activity for 24 weeks. Obesity, cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and muscle endurance were measured pre and post training. Frist, characteristics of subjects were measured with age, height, weight, IQ and SQ. Second, the subjects then performed sensory integration activity training for 24 weeks. Last, weight, strength, endurance, cardiovascular endurance and flexibility were measured. Data were calculated for average and standard deviation by SPSS 25.0 statistic program, and dependent sample t-test was processed to analyze the change between pre and post training. All statistical significance level was set to 0.5. Results: The result was shown that weight, strength and endurance changes between pre and post were significant. However, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility changes between pre and post were not significant. Conclusions: The lack of training frequency of 60 minute per week were acknowledged per week from this result. In future research, increased intensity and frequency are need for an in-depth and meaningful study and the measured data can be used basic information for the study.

한약처방을 활용한 medicinal food의 개발을 위한 연구(II) - 생맥산 처방을 첨가하여 제조한 초콜릿의 품질 및 관능적 특성 - (Study of Oriental Prescription for Medicinal Foods Applications(II) -Quality and Sensory Characteristics of Chocolate Added with Saengmaeg-san-)

  • Development of chocolate products to improve the quality and sensory properties with Saengmaeg-san powder (SP) was attempted. Effects of SP on color, viscosity, total phenol compound content, radical scavening activity and sensory characteristics. In color, lightness value was increased than milk chocolate without SP Also viscosity was significantly higher than chocolate without SP.Total polyphenol content of Saengmaeg-san chocolate was 191.52 mg/1 OOg and Dpph scavenging activity was 87.06%. Results of sensory evaluation, significant different (p < 0.05) were shown in softness, sweet taste, sour taste, bitter taste, texture and overall acceptability depending on the addition of SP.

The Effects of Psychomotorik in the Forest on the Sensory and Visual Perception of Children with Intellectual Disabilities

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the changes of sensory and visual perception of children with intellectual disabilities by conducting psychomotorik (psychomotor activity) in the forest and indoor treatment rooms. Accordingly, this study divided 18 children with intellectual disabilities living in the facility for persons with disabilities located in Seoul into three groups: the experimental group participating in psychomotorik in the forest, the comparative group participating in psychomotorik in the treatment room, and the control group without any treatment at all. The program was conducted for 32 weeks, 4 hours a month. The results showed that psychomotorik promoted the sensory and visual development of children with disabilities. Psychomotorik in the forest showed significant effects on touch and activity level, form constancy and eye-hand coordination. Psychomotorik in the treatment room showed significant improvement in figure-ground with reduced motion. This suggests that psychomotorik in the forest as well as indoors is a positive factor for sensory adaptation reaction and visual development of children with intellectual disabilities.

치자 추출물이 쌀밥의 관능적 특성 및 부패미생물에 미치는 효과 (Effect of Water Extract of Gardenia jasminoides on the Sensory Quality and Putrefactive Microorganism of Cooked Rice)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of water extract of Gardenia jasminoides (WEGJ) on the sensory qualities, color value and shelf-life characteristics (pH, total no. of Bacillus and TBA value) of cooked rice. The total color difference(ΔE) was increased when WEGJ was added. The sensory dualities of cooked rice added with WEGJ had no significant difference in color, taste and torture compared with control group. The pH value of cooked rice addeded with 250 ppm and 500 ppm of WEGJ was less declined compared with control group. WEGJ at the concentration of 250 ppm and 500 ppm had an antimicrobial activity and WEGJ at 500ppm showed an antioxidant activity in cooked rice.

보육시설과 가정의 연계를 통한 감각활동이 영아의 신체발달과 영아-부모 상호작용에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of the Child Care Center-Family Linked Sensory Activity on Infant's Physical Development and Infant-Parent Interaction)

  • 본 연구는 보육시설에서 이루어지는 영아 감각활동을 가정과 연계하여 실시함으로써 영아의 신체발달과 영아-부모 상호작용에 미치는 효과를 알아보고 이를 통해 영아의 발달과 부모의 자녀양육에 도움을 주고자 하였다. 본 연구의 연구대상은 K시의 S어린이집과 D어린이집에 재원중인 만 1 2세 영아 56명과 영아의 어머니 또는 아버지 56명이다. 연구도구는 교사용 1 2세 영아발달평가도구(이영자, 이종숙, 신은수, 곽향림, 이정욱, 2002)중 일부와 Assessment Profile for Early Childhood Program(APECP)(Abbott-Shim & Sibely, 1987)를 수정하여 사용한 선행연구(강숙현, 2002)를 참고하여 영아-부모 상호작용 설문지를 작성하여 사용하였다. 보육시설-가정연계 감각활동은 표준보육과정에 근거하여 육아정책개발센터(2007)에서 개발한 프로그램과 삼성복지재단(2003)의 영아프로그램을 바탕으로 선정된 감각활동을 보육시설의 월간 계획안에 반영하여 1주일에 3회씩 총 8주에 걸쳐 24회 실시하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 보육시설-가정연계 감각활동을 적용한 집단은 통제집단보다 영아의 신체발달에서 부분적으로 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 보육시설-가정연계 감각활동을 적용한 집단은 통제집단에 비해 전체적으로 영아-부모 상호작용 증진에 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다.
