This paper proposes a calibration algorithm for a three-degree-of-freedom (DOF) planar cable-driven parallel robot (CDPR). To evaluate the proposed algorithm, we calibrated winches and an optical tracking sensor, measured the end-effector pose using the optical tracking sensor, and calculated the accurate robot configuration using the measurement information. To conduct an accuracy test on the end-effector pose, we followed guidelines from "Manipulating industrial robots - Performance criteria and related test methods." Through the test, it is verified that the position accuracy can be improved by up to 20% for a $2m{\times}2m$-sized planar cable robot using the proposed calibration algorithm.

In most shipyards, the measurement of 3-dimensional relative position of pipes should be connected in the block depends on the manual operation. It results a very tedious and inefficient procedure, thus the proper measurement system is needed to improve productivity and accuracy. This paper describes the development results of pipe measurement system including system concepts, measuring procedures, system calibration, and its accuracy and productivity. And also, the possibility and things to be improved for application in shipyard are discussed in this paper.
To detect partial discharge of 154kV joint box, we have made experiment by using the Al-foil electrode sensor. Generally the signals which are detected in partial discharge test of underground power transmission cable are accompanied with both noises of high voltage and noises of surrounding power cable. The most noise in near to end part of joint box is corona, beside other noises flowed from surrounding area. Partial discharge test is difficulty due to these noises. First, we had used Al-Foil sensor on middle joint box of 154[kV] underground transmission power cable, and then analysed reliability of calibration signal by using the Al-Foil electrode sensor of NJB. From above results, decrement properties measured highly. But incase of injecting calibration signal of 500[pC] after measuring signals in IJB, the S/N ratio had about 25[dB] acquisition.
This paper describes a monocular PSD-based motion capture sensor to employ with commercial video game systems such as Microsoft's XBOX and Sony's Playstation II. The system compact, low-cost, and only requires a one-time calibration at the factory. The system includes a PSD(Position Sensitive Detector) and active infrared (IR) LED markers that are placed on the object to be tracked. The PSD sensor is placed in the focal plane of a wide-angle lens. The micro-controller calculates the 3D position of the markers using only the measured intensity and 2D position on the PSD. A series of experiments were performed to evaluate the performance of our prototype system. From the experimental results we see that the proposed system's compact size, low-cost, ease of installation, and high frame rates are suitable for high speed motion tracking in games.

Quadrotor is an aircraft which is possible in Vertical Take-off and Landing(VTOL). This aircraft can not only be created as an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV), but also can be easily used in various fields because of its simplicity of construction. This study is mainly conducted with two main purposes. The first goal is designing the quadrotor focusing on the lightweight and protecting the airframe. The second purpose is stabilizing the quadrotor's attitude by using the PID controller. MATLAB simulation is performed for obtaining PID gain based on equations of motion. We used the compensation filter technique for the calibration of sensor data. PID gain has been drawn out based on the MATLAB simulation. The efficiency of the attitude control is improved by calibration of sensor data.
This paper proposes a method to calibrate the electrode misplacement in underwater electric field sensor arrays (EFSAs) for accurate measurements of underwater electric field signatures. The electrode misplacement of an EFSA was estimated by measuring the electric field signatures generated by a known electric source and by comparing the measurements with the theoretical calculations under similar measurement conditions. When the EFSA measured the electric field signatures induced by an unknown electric source, the electric properties of the unknown electric source were approximated by considering the optimized estimation of the electrode misplacement of the EFSA. Finally, the measured electric field signatures were calibrated by calculating the theoretical electric field signatures to be measured with an ideally installed EFSA without electrode misplacement; the approximated electric properties of the unknown electric source were also taken into account. Simulations were conducted to test the proposed calibration method. The results showed that the electrode misplacement could be estimated. Further, the electric field measurements and the electric field-based localization of underwater vessels became more accurate after the application of the proposed calibration method. The proposed method will contribute to applications such as the detection and localization of underwater electric sources, which require accurate measurements of underwater electric field signatures.
Since well-calibrated satellite data is critical for their applications, calibration and validation of COMS science data was one of the key activities during the IOT. COMS MI radiometric calibration process was divided into two phases according to the out-gassing of the sensor: calibrations of the visible (VI) and infrared (IR) channels. Different from the VIS calibration, the calibration steps for the IR channels followed additional processes to secure their radiometric performances. Primary calibration steps of the IR were scan mirror emissivity correction, midnight effect compensation, slope averaging and 1/f noise compensation after a nominal calibration. First, the scan mirror emissivity correction was conducted to compensate the variability of the scan mirror emissivity driven by the coating material on the scan mirror. Second, the midnight effect correction was performed to remove unreasonable high spikes of the slope values caused by the excessive radiative sources during the local midnight. After these steps, the residual (difference between the previous slope and the given slope) was filtered by a smoothing routine to eliminate the remnant random noises. The 1/f noise compensation was also carried out to filter out the lower frequency noises caused from the electronics in the Imager. With through calibration processes during the entire IOT period, the calibrated IR data showed excellent performances.

The geo-referencing accuracy of the images acquired by a UAV based multi-sensor system is affected by the accuracy of the mounting parameters involving the relationship between a camera and a GPS/INS system as well as the performance of a GPS/INS system. Therefore, the estimation of the accurate mounting parameters of a multi-sensor system is important. Currently, we are developing a low altitude multi-sensor system based on a UAV, which can monitor target areas in real time for rapid responses for emergency situations such as natural disasters and accidents. In this study, we suggest a system calibration method for the estimation of the mounting parameters of a multi-sensor system like our system. We also generate simulation data with the sensor specifications of our system, and derive an effective flight configuration and the number of ground control points for accurate and efficient system calibration by applying the proposed method to the simulated data. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method can estimate accurate mounting parameters using over five ground control points and flight configuration composed of six strips. In the near future, we plan to estimate mounting parameters of our system using the proposed method and evaluate the geo-referencing accuracy of the acquired sensory data.

This paper addresses development of the ultra-light analog sun sensors for small satellite applications. The sun sensor is suitable for attitude determination for small satellite because of its small, light, low-cost, and low power consumption characteristics. The sun sensor is designed, manufactured and characteristic-tested with the target requirements of ${\pm}60^{\circ}$ FOV (Field of View) and pointing accuracy of ${\pm}2^{\circ}$. Since the sun sensor has nonlinear characteristics between output measurement voltage and incident angle of sunlight, a higher order calibration equation is required for error correction. The error was calculated by using a polynomial calibration equation that was computed by the least square method obtained from the measured voltages vs. angles characteristics. Finally, the accuracies of 1-axis and 2-axes sun sensors, which consist of 2 detectors, are compared.
This paper deals with the planar-type sensor which can measure the time-varying electric fields. To make an electric field measurement system having a wide bandwidth, a planar-type sensor is proposed. The theoretical principle and design rule of the measuring device are introduced, and also the calibration and application investigations are carried out. From the calibration experiments, the frequency bandwidth of the electric field measurement device ranges from 160 [Hz] to 25 [MHz] and the sensitivity of the sensor is 1.2 [mV/V/m]. As the application experiments, the electric fields caused by the impulse and oscillating transient voltage in high voltage laboratory are measured by the proposed device, and the results are excellent.
