  • In this paper, the 2-dimensional uniaxial force sensors array is introduced to detect the distributed force using fiber Bragg gratings. Uniaxial force transducer was designed to avoid the chirping and micro bending which degrade the performance of the sensor. The Brags wavelength shift of the sensor was estimated using the finite element analysis. Using this uniaxial force sensor, the uniaxial force sensors array $(3{\times}3)$ was fabricated, and the Performance of this sensors array was evaluated. The Presented sensors may has very simple configuration and its wiring is very simple compared with any other force sensors arrays.

  • The conformal array sensor has different sub-array depending on different beam steering directions. According to the method to effective the sensor, the performance of the conformal array sensor can be different, where the sub-array selects an effective sensor. Also, due to the figure of the conformal array sensor, the figure of the sub-array can be different each other, which results in different performance on directivity index, beam width and etc. In this paper, two methods to select sub-array which is the criteria for each sensors position vector and directive vector were proposed. For two sub-array selection methods, the performance of the directivity index, horizontal and vertical beam width were compared with the average and variance. In addition, this comparison was conducted when the number of sensors was fixed. When the number of sensors was not fixed, the directional vector method mainly results in high performance, but the performance of vertical beam width was lower or equal. When the number of sensors was fixed, the performance of two methods is similar, but the performance of variance was deteriorated.

  • To develop the multi-channel fiber-optic sensor array system, two-channel TDM(Time Division Multiplexing) fiber-optic sensor array was constructed and characterized. The sensor array topology was Mach-Zehender ladder type and PMDI(Phase-Matched Differential Interferometer) technique was used to exploit the efficiency of the array signal processing. By using a synthetic heterodyne demodulation technique, outputs of the two channels were monitored simultaneously. The sensitivities of channel #1 and #2 were measured ${\sim}60{\mu}rad/\sqrt{Hz}$ and ${\sim}80{\mu}rad/\sqrt{Hz}$, respectively. Crosstalk of sensors in the array was found to be approximately -36dB. Based on the results, we could conclude that TDM Mach-Zehnder ladder type sensor array can be used to detect the acoustic signal with stability and efficiency of the sensor array.

  • A highly sensitive ammonia gas sensor using thick-film technology has been fabricated and examined. The sensing material of the gas sensor is FeOx-$WO_{3}-SnO_{2}$ oxide semiconductor. The sensor exhibits resistance increase upon exposure to low concentration of ammonia gas. The resistance of the sensor is decreased, on the other hand, for exposure to reducing gases such as ethyl alcohol, methane, propane and carbon monoxide. A novel method for detecting ammonia gas quite selectively utilizing a sensor array consisting of an ammonia gas sensor and a compensation element has been proposed and developed. The compensation element is a Pt-doped $WO_{3}-SnO_{2}$gas sensor which shows opposite direction of resistance change in comparison with the ammonia gas sensor upon exposure to ammonia gas. Excellent selectivity has been achieved using the sensor array having two sensing elements.

  • Ryu et al. proposed a multiple target DOA tracking algorithm using a linear sensor array. In Ryu's algorithm first, the signal subspace is estimated using sensor output and the angular innovations of targets are extracted from the estimated signal subspace. Next, the DOA's of targets are tracked using the angular innovations as the inputs of Kalman filters. Ryu's algorithm has good features that it has no data association problem and is efficient. However, Ryu's algorithm can't be a lied to an arbitrarily shaped array because it was proposed using linear sensor array. Actually, when the sensor array is used in the various application fields, sensors have a position error. Therefore, the sensor array can be an arbitrarily shaped array. In this paper, we propose a multiple target DOA tracking algorithm applicable to an arbitrarily shaped array, and it sustains the good features of Ryu's algorithm.

  • In modern passive sonar systems, a towed array sensor is used to minimize the effects of own ship noise and to get a higher SNR. The thin and long towed array sensor can be guided in a non-linear form according to the maneuvering of tow-ship. If this change of the array shape is not considered, the performance of beamformer may deteriorate. In order to properly beamform the elements in the array, an accurate estimate of the array shape is required. Various techniques exist for estimating the shape of the linear array. In the case of a method using a heading sensor, the estimation performance may be degraded due to the effect of heading sensor noise. As means of removing this potential error, weighted polynomial fitting technique for estimating array shape is developed here. In order to evaluate the performance of proposed method, we conducted computer simulation. From the experiments, it was confirmed that the proposed method is more robust to noise than the conventional method.

  • The IEEE 1451 publication are available, this standard defines interface between sensor and processor, and plug and play in processor is possible. Also, Intelligence of sensor was possible because sensor includes transducer electronic data sheet (TEDS). In IEEE 1451 standards, IEEE 1451.4 is suitable standard in single sensor, and IEEE 1451.2 is suitable standard in multi-sensors (array sensor). In this paper, apply IEEE 1451 to electronic tongue system. In the case of electronic tongue system, because array sensor is used, it is that complex and difficult to apply IEEE 1451.4 that is standard for single sensor. In this paper, apply IEEE 1451.2 for array sensor to design of electronic tongue system. Communication interface method of IEEE 1451.2 for electronic tongue system is presented, and implemented TEDS of electronic tongue system.

  • We report on the building of a micro sensor array based on typical semiconductor fabrication processes aimed at monitoring selectively a specific gas in ambient of other gases. Chemical sensors can be applied for an electronic nose and/or robots using this technique. Microsensor array was fabricated on the same chip using 0.6${\mu}m$ CMOS technology, and unique gas sensing patterns were obtained by principal component analysis from the array. $SnO_2$/Pt sensor for CO gas showed a high selectivity to buthane gas and humidity. $SnO_2$ sensor for hydrogen gas, however, showed a low selectivity to CO and buthane gas. We can obtain more distinguishable patterns that provide the small sensing deviation(the high seletivity) toward a given analyte in the response space than in the chemical space through the specific parameterization of raw data for chemical image formation.
