  • This study conducts an optimization and sensitivity analysis on rectangular reinforced concrete (RC) beam using Lagrangian Multiplier Method (LMM) as programming optimization computer soft ware. The analysis is conducted to obtain the minimum design cost for both singly and doubly RC beams according to the specifications of three regulations of American concrete institute (ACI), British regulation (BS), and Iranian concrete regulation (ICS). Moreover, a sensitivity analysis on cost is performed with respect to the effective parameters such as length, width, and depth of beam, and area of reinforcement. Accordingly, various curves are developed to be feasibly utilized in design of RC beams. Numerical examples are also represented to better illustrate the design steps. The results indicate that instead of complex optimization relationships, the LMM can be used to minimize the cost of singly and doubly reinforced beams with different boundary conditions. The results of the sensitivity analysis on LMM indicate that each regulation can provide the most optimal values at specific situations. Therefore, using the graphs proposed for different design conditions can effectively help the designer (without necessity of primary optimization knowledge) choose the best regulation and values of design parameters.

  • The work presented here focuses on the development of suitable discretised formulations, for large-displacement shape and non-shape design sensitivity analysis (DSA), which enable the straightforward incorporation of structural optimisation into established finite element analysis (FEA) codes. For the generalised displacement-based functional the design sensitivity vector has been expressed in terms of displacement sensitivity. The Total Lagrangian formulation is utilised for modelling of large deformation of truss structures. The variational formulation of the sensitivity analysis procedure is discretised by using "pseudo" - finite elements, Results are presented for the sensitivity analysis and optimisation of standard truss structures. For the purposes of this work, the analysis and optimisation procedures outlined below are incorporated into the FEA code ABAQUS.

  • A method for performing dynamic design sensitivity analysis of vehicle suspension systems which have three dimensional closed-loop kinematic structure is presented. A recursive form of equations of motion for a MacPherson suspension system is derived as basis for sensitivity analysis. By directly differentiating the equations of motion with respect to design variables, sensitivity equations are obtained. The direct generalize for the application of multibody dynamic sensitivity analysis. Based on the proposed sensitivity analysis, optimal design of a MacPherson suspension system is carried out taking unsprung mass, spring and damping coefficients as design variables.

  • In this article, sensitivity analysis of atmospheric dispersion model RIMPUFF is considered. Uncertain parameters are taken to be triangular fuzzy numbers, and sensitivity analysis is carried out by using the Hartley-like measure. Codes for evaluating membership function using the Vertex method and the Hartley-like measure are prepared using Matlab.

  • The optimal blank design method by sensitivity analysis has been applied to the formings of oil-pan, tailored blank and front panel as the examples. Die geometry is prepared by a commercial CAD system. Excellent results has been obtained between the numerical results and the target contour shapes. Through the investigation, the proposed systematic method of optimal blank design is found to be effective in the practical forming processes.

  • Shin, Tarumi and Tanaka(1989) discussed a method of sensitivity analysis in principal component regression(PCR) based on an influence function derived by Tanaka(1988). The present paper is its continuation. In this paper we first consider two new influence measures, then apply the proposed method to various data sets and discuss some properties of sensitivity analysis in PCR.

  • Error of the geometric series expansion method for the structural sensitivity analysis is estimated. Although the semi-analytic method has several advantages, accuracy of the method prevents it from practical application. One of the promising remedies is the use of geometric series formula for the matrix inversion. Its result of the sensitivity analysis converges that of the global difference method which is known as reliable one. To reduce computational efforts and to obtain reliable results, it is important to know how many terms need to expand. In this paper, the error formula is presented and Its usefulness is illustrated through numerical experiments.

  • In this paper, the RCF method is applied to analyze small signal stability of power systems including thyristor controlled FACTS equipments such as TCSC. The eigenvalue sensitivity analysis algorithm in discrete systems by the RCF method are presented and applied to the power system including TCSC. The RCF analysis method enabled to precisely calculate eigenvalue sensitivity coefficients of dominant oscillation modes after periodic switching operations. These simulation results are very different from those of the conventional continuous system analysis method such as the state space equation method.
