Researchers visited a nursing hospital, a senior citizen center, and a senior welfare center to organize times before conducting questionnaires after interviewing individual elderly participants. Results. The results are as follows: The probability of the long-term senior recuperation insurance implementation is higher amongst the younger participants, those with average health status and where the system is recognized by neighbors, relatives and/or family. The largest group of participants show only a moderate interest in the long-term senior recuperation insurance. The attitude toward using the long-term senior recuperation insurance system in the future is undetermined due to lack of awareness. Conclusions. Although the long-term senior recuperation insurance system is for all citizens, it is important to provide the correct information to the target audience, the elderly, and raise the awareness of the system so that they have access to the necessary services.

  • Purpose: The purposes of this study were to develop a nursing assessment tool for senior center nurses, and to test its feasibility and content validity. Methods: The study utilized a psychometric test design. Preliminary items were developed based on geriatric health needs and Gordon's 11 domains of functioning health. Initially, the tool was evaluated for content validity and feasibility. Then, it was administered among 195 older adults in a senior center by a gerontological nurse practitioner. Data were analyzed to describe the nursing problems of the senior center older adults. Results: The final version of the nursing assessment tool consisted of 27 items. The internal consistency, measured with the Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, was .74. The result of the assessment showed that senior center older adults had high nursing needs in the area of management of chronic diseases (hypertension, diabetes, and lipids), dental care, community relations, safety, elder abuse, health behaviors (such as drinking), mental health (depression, suicide, and cognitive function), and health consultations. Conclusion: The new tool was feasible for use with senior center participants, and it was evaluated as having high content validity by senior center nurses.

  • Although juvenile nephronophthisis(NPHP) is one of the most frequent genetic causes of chronic renal failure, it has very rarely been reported in Korean children. Most NPHP patients are found to have chronic renal failure, since there are no distinct clinical symptoms for NPHP except polydipsia, polyuria and enuresis in the early stage of disease. Ten percent of NPHP patients manifest retinitis pigmentosa, called $Senior-L\ddot{o}ken$ syndrome. We experienced 2 cases of $Senior-L\ddot{o}ken$ syndrome that occurred in siblings(a 10 year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl) who were diagnosed with Leber's amaurosis. They were found to have severe renal impairment without polydipsia and polyuria. However, no large homogenous deletion of the NPHPI(2q13) gene was not identified in these patients. We report here on these cases and we review the literature to emphasize the association between Leber's amaurosis and the development of chronic renal failure.

  • Objective: This study aimed to explore the readability and comprehensibility of the drug information on a patient leaflet for the senior by employing performance-based user-testing. Methods: We included 36 elderly (65 years old or older) as the senior group (intervention group) and 36 adults (40~59 years old) as the adult group (control). We developed a questionnaire to test if participants could access to drug information. After completing a questionnaire, the participant was interviewed about their understanding over the patient leaflet. We performed t-test, ${\chi}^2$-test or Fisher's exact test to examine differences between two groups in primary outcomes. Results: The senior were less likely able to find information (78%) than the adult (91%); they were much less likely able to understand information (42%) than the adult (69%). While we found differences between the ability of finding and understanding drug information in both groups, the senior group had greater difficulties in understanding all kinds of drug information. They had significant difficulties to remember information after reading the patient leaflet and frequently failed to find proper information even though they were allowed to access freely to the leaflet during interviewing. Conclusion: To secure safe and effective use of drugs for the senior, it is necessary to develop drug leaflets for the senior.

  • Objectives : The purpose of the this study was to obtain necessary source data for development of oral health improvement and promotion programs for the elderly by investigating the actual situations of oral health education related experience and needs that senior citizens had in Korea. Methods : In this study, convenience sampling was conducted in 430 senior citizens aged 65 years who lived in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do in Korea, for about six months from December 2011 to May 2012. For data collection, the structured questionnaire was used. Community-based senior citizens' welfare facilities and centres, as well as nearby churches were visited to inform them of the information on this study. Then, the senior citizens who agreed to participate in this study were given the questionnaire sheets. Excluding 33 copies of inadequately completed questionnaire sheets, 397 copies (92.3% of the entire collected data) were analyzed. Results : 1. In terms of the experience with oral health education, the number of elderly respondents who have not received oral health education was 202 (50.9%), whereas the number of those who have received oral health education was 195 (49.1%), which indicates that the latter shows a slightly higher proportion. 2. Examining the necessity for oral health education, the overall mean was 3.67 points based on 5 points as full marks, which suggests that senior citizens have high awareness of the necessity for oral health education. 3. Regarding the willingness to participate in oral health education, the number of those who answered that if any opportunity to receive oral health education is given, they would be willing to receive such the education was 211 (53.1%). Conclusions : Based upon the results mentioned above, we conclude that it is required to develop more systematic and sustained, life-long oral health education programs at the levels of senior citizen's welfare facilities and centres, in order to guide senior citizens to desirable oral health care practice.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the satisfaction level and psychological status of senior students of "Silver College," or seniors' college. For the analysis, questionnaire survey was conducted to senior students of Silver Colleges of B and K University in Busan from May 1 through 31, 2013. The analysis methods used are SPSS Win 18.0 program on analysis of frequency, one-way analysis of variance, a correlation analysis, simple regression analysis and multiple regression analysis, with analysis of actual proof for 5% significance level. The result of analysis indicates that the senior students' satisfaction level rose and serious physical symptoms improved after taking silver college programs from before. This study is significant in that it provides theoretical grounds for increasing the number of silver colleges with professional and socially-renowned professors as faculty, and developing further programs and policies for the solution of aggravating physical and mental problems more and more senior people are faced with in this fast aging society.
