  • The semantic relationship structures hierarchically the huge amount of document objects which is usually not formatted. However, it is very difficult to structure relevant data from various distributed application domains. This paper proposed a new object management method to service the distributed domain objects by using semantic reference relationship. The proposed mechanism utilized the profile structure in order to extract the semantic similarity from application domain objects and utilized the joint matrix to decide the semantic relationship of the extracted objects. This paper performed the simulation to show the performance of the proposed method, and simulation results show that the proposed method has better retrieval performance than the existing text mining method and information extraction method.

  • As ontologies are used widely, interest for semantic similarity search is also increasing. In this paper, we suggest a query evaluation scheme for k-nearest neighbor query, which retrieves k most similar objects to the query object. We use the best match method to calculate the semantic similarity between objects and use the signature tree to index annotation information of objects in database. The signature tree is usually used for the set similarity search. When we use the signature tree in similarity search, we are required to predict the upper-bound of similarity for a node; the highest similarity value which can be found when we traverse into the node. So we suggest a prediction function for the best match similarity function and prove the correctness of the prediction. And we modify the original signature tree structure for same signatures not to be stored redundantly. This improved structure of signature tree not only reduces the size of signature tree but also increases the efficiency of query evaluation. We use the Gene Ontology(GO) for our experiments, which provides large ontologies and large amount of annotation data. Using GO, we show that proposed method improves query efficiency and present several experimental results varying the page size and using several node-splitting methods.

  • Measuring the similarity of given samples is a key problem of recognition, clustering, retrieval and related applications. A number of works, e.g. kernel method and metric learning, have been contributed to this problem. The challenge of similarity learning is to find a similarity robust to intra-class variance and simultaneously selective to inter-class characteristic. We observed that, the similarity measure can be improved if the data distribution and hidden semantic information are exploited in a more sophisticated way. In this paper, we propose a similarity learning approach for retrieval and recognition. The approach, termed as LDA-FEK, derives free energy kernel (FEK) from Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA). First, it trains LDA and constructs kernel using the parameters and variables of the trained model. Then, the unknown kernel parameters are learned by a discriminative learning approach. The main contributions of the proposed method are twofold: (1) the method is computationally efficient and scalable since the parameters in kernel are determined in a staged way; (2) the method exploits data distribution and semantic level hidden information by means of LDA. To evaluate the performance of LDA-FEK, we apply it for image retrieval over two data sets and for text categorization on four popular data sets. The results show the competitive performance of our method.

  • Because UMLS semantic network is bulky and complex, user hard to understand and has shortcoming that can not express all semantic network on screen. To solve this problem, rules to dismember semantic network efficiently are introduction. but there is shortcoming that this should classifies manually applying rule whenever UMLS semantic network is modified. Suggest automatic clustering method of UMLS semantic network that use genetic algorithm to solve this problem. Proposed method uses Linked semantic relationship between each semantic type and semantic network does clustering by structurally similar semantic type linkages. To estimate the performance of suggested method, we compared it with result of clustering method by rule.

  • The e-Marketplace is growing rapidly and providing a more complex relationship between providers and consumers. In recent years, e-Marketplace integration or cooperation issues have become an important issue in e-Business. The e-Catalog is a key factor in e-Business, which means an e-Catalog System needs to contain more large data and requires a more efficient retrieval system. This paper focuses on designing an efficient retrieval system for very large e-Catalogs of large e-Marketplaces. For this reason, a new similarity measure for e-Catalog retrieval based on semantic relationships was proposed. Our achievement is this: first, a new e-Catalog data model based on semantic relationships was designed. Second, the model was extended by considering lexical features (Especially, focus on Korean). Third, the factors affecting similarity with the model was defined. Fourth, from the factors, we finally defined a new similarity measure, realized the system and verified it through experimentation.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel kernel called a semantic parse tree kernel that extends the parse tree kernel previously studied to extract protein-protein interactions(PPIs) and shown prominent results. Among the drawbacks of the existing parse tree kernel is that it could degenerate the overall performance of PPI extraction because the kernel function may produce lower kernel values of two sentences than the actual analogy between them due to the simple comparison mechanisms handling only the superficial aspects of the constituting words. The new kernel can compute the lexical semantic similarity as well as the syntactic analogy between two parse trees of target sentences. In order to calculate the lexical semantic similarity, it incorporates context-based word sense disambiguation producing synsets in WordNet as its outputs, which, in turn, can be transformed into more general ones. In experiments, we introduced two new parameters: tree kernel decay factors, and degrees of abstracting lexical concepts which can accelerate the optimization of PPI extraction performance in addition to the conventional SVM's regularization factor. Through these multi-strategic experiments, we confirmed the pivotal role of the newly applied parameters. Additionally, the experimental results showed that semantic parse tree kernel is superior to the conventional kernels especially in the PPI classification tasks.

  • This paper examines whether the Global Vector model is applicable to Korean data as a universal learning algorithm. The main purpose of this study is to compare the global vector model (GloVe) with the word2vec models such as a continuous bag-of-words (CBOW) model and a skip-gram (SG) model. For this purpose, we conducted an experiment by employing an evaluation corpus consisting of 70 target words and 819 pairs of Korean words for word similarities and analogies, respectively. Results of the word similarity task indicated that the Pearson correlation coefficients of 0.3133 as compared with the human judgement in GloVe, 0.2637 in CBOW and 0.2177 in SG. The word analogy task showed that the overall accuracy rate of 67% in semantic and syntactic relations was obtained in GloVe, 66% in CBOW and 57% in SG.

  • This parer presents a method of ranking translation word selection for Korean verbs based on lexical knowledge contained in a bilingual Korean-English dictionary and WordNet that are easily obtainable knowledge resources. We focus on deciding which translation of the target word is the most appropriate using the measure of semantic relatedness through the 45 extended relations between possible translations of target word and some indicative clue words that play a role of predicate-arguments in source language text. In order to reduce the weight of application of possibly unwanted senses, we rank the possible word senses for each translation word by measuring semantic similarity between the translation word and its near synonyms. We report an average accuracy of $51\%$ with ten Korean ambiguous verbs. The evaluation suggests that our approach outperforms the default baseline performance and previous works.

  • Linked Data allows structured data to be published in a standard way that datasets from various domains can be interlinked. With the rapid evolution of Linked Open Data(LOD), researchers are exploiting it to solve particular problems such as semantic similarity assessment. In this paper, we propose a method, on top of the basic concept of Linked Data Semantic Distance (LDSD), for calculating the Linked Data semantic distance between resources that can be used in the LOD-based recommender system. The semantic distance measurement model proposed in this paper is based on a similarity measurement that combines the LOD-based semantic distance and a new link weight using TF-IDF, which is well known in the field of information retrieval. In order to verify the effectiveness of this paper's approach, performance was evaluated in the context of an LOD-based recommendation system using mixed data of DBpedia and MovieLens. Experimental results show that the proposed method shows higher accuracy compared to other similar methods. In addition, it contributed to the improvement of the accuracy of the recommender system by expanding the range of semantic distance calculation.
