The Convergence Research Regarding the Effect of University Students' Addiction to Smartphones on Self-Efficacy: Lack of Sleep and Interpersonal Relationships as the Parameters (대학생의 스마트폰 중독이 자기효능감에 미치는 영향에 관한 융합연구: 수면부족과 대인관계를 매개로 하여)

  • This convergence research was conducted to understand the effect of university students' addiction to smartphones on self-efficacy, with lack of sleep and interpersonal relationships as the parameters. The subjects were students from three universities located in J province, and 263 questionnaires were used as the data for analysis. SPSS and AMOS were used for correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis, and path analysis. As a result, addiction to smartphones showed positive (+) correlation with lack of sleep, and negative (-) correlation with interpersonal relationships and sell-efficacy. In addition, the addiction to smartphones has an influence on self-efficacy with lack of sleep and interpersonal relationships as the parameters. Therefore, in order to increase the self-efficacy of unversity students, plans and measures should be prepared to manage and prevent addiction to smartphones and lack of sleep, and to improve interpersonal relationships.

A Comparative Study on BMI, Pain, Depression, Self-esteem and Self-efficacy between Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients and Osteoarthritis Patients (류마티스 관절염과 골관절염 환자의 BMI, 통증, 우울, 자아존중감 및 자기효능에 대한 비교 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify differences of BMI, pain, depression, self-esteem and self-efficacy between rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis patients. Method: The study subjects were 135 persons having chronic arthritis at rheumatology clinic and the department of orthopedic surgery of the C university hospital in D city. The data were collected from February 19th to April 7th, 2003. The data analysis consisted of $X^{2}-test$, t-test, Pearson Correlation Coefficient, and multiple regression using SPSSWIN 10.0 program. Result: 1. There were significant differences in age(p=0.000), occupation(p=0.015), marriage(p=0.028), duration of illness(p=0.000), BMI(p=0.006) and Self-efficacy(p=0.017) between rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis patients. 2. In rheumatoid arthritis, the BMI and self-esteem(r=-0.239, p=0.05) were significantly correlated and also pain and self-esteem(r=-0.402, p=0.01), pain and self-efficacy(r=-0.455, p=0.01) were significantly negatively correlated. The self-esteem and depression(r=-0.622, p=0.01), self-efficacy and depression(r=-0.729, p=0.01) were significantly negatively correlated and also pain and depression(r=0.432, p=0.01), self-esteem and self-efficacy(r=-0.476, p=0.01) were significantly positively correlated. In osteoarthritis, the pain and self-esteem(r=-0.225, p=0.01) were significantly negatively correlated and also pain and self-efficacy(r=-0.493, p=0.01), self-esteem and depression(r=-0.692, p=0.01), self-efficacy and depression(r=-0.566, p=0.01) were significantly negatively correlated. The pain and depression(r=0.290, p=0.05), self-esteem and self-efficacy(r=0.383, p=0.01) were significantly positively correlated. 3. The factors influenced by the self-efficacy, the depression and age in rheumatoid arthritis explained 56.2%, the depression and pain in osteoarthritis explained 43.9%. The factors influenced by the BMI, the self-esteem in rheumatoid arthritis explained 5.7%, but there was no significantly variable in osteoarthritis. Conclusion: The results support the importance of different nursing intervention focused on BMI and self-efficacy in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. There is a need for further studies to identify relation of variables in different diseases related to arthritis.

  • Since the introduction of pit and fissure sealants in the early 1970's, many studies have been published amply documenting the efficacy of these materials as caries-preventive agents. However, the acceptance of the technique by dentist has been questionable. This survey was investigated the attitudes toward and use of pit and fissure sealants by dentist in Chonbuk area. The results were as follows: 1. Utilization of pit and fissure sealants is very high. Only 15% of dentists never use pit and fissure sealants, whereas 85% generally use pit and fissure sealants. 2. Most dentists reported that their knowledge of pit and fissure sealants was gained through dental schools education. 3. Concern about difficult to sell' to patient, poor retention of pit and fissure sealants and unsubstantiated by research were given as the main reasons why pit and fissure sealants was not used. 4. Patient demands and various educate program were given as important factors that would lead to increase use of pit and fissure sealants.

The Effects of Environmental Education Program using Action Learning on the Environmental Literacy and Self-efficacy of Elementary Students (액션러닝을 활용한 환경교육 프로그램이 초등학생의 환경소양과 자기효능감에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aimed to investigate the effect of environmental education programs using action learning on elementary school students' environmental literacy and self-efficacy. To this end, an environmental education program using action learning was applied to 22 sixth graders of 'A' Elementary School in Busan. The results of this study were as follows. First, environmental education programs using action learning were effective in improving the environmental literacy of elementary school students. After implementing the environmental education program using action learning, students' environmental values, cognitive, and procedural ability changed positively. Environmental issues awareness and ecological knowledge improved, and there was a significant increase in environmental behavior and environmental function. Second, environmental education programs using action learning were effective in enhancing the self-efficacy of elementary school students. After implementing environmental education programs using action learning, students' confidence in problem solving and their ability to judge their behaviors improved. Third, elementary school students showed active participation and interest when conducting environmental education programs using action learning. Students have become open to protecting the environment when they find problems, devise solutions, and practice them. After reflection, it was confirmed that students' immersion and satisfaction in class were high as a solution was reached, leading to efforts to sell items they did not use and donate profits to environmental protection organizations.
