In this paper, we propose a new relay selection scheme which can decrease the secrecy outage probability in a relay communication network with multiple relays and an eavesdropper. In the conventional relay selection scheme, a relay transmits jamming signal toward an eavesdropper to decrease the successful decoding probability of the eavesdropper. The coventional scheme has a critical problem that the successful decoding probability of a receiver also decreases. The new relay selection scheme proposed in this paper can significantly enhance the secrecy outage probability by selecting a pair of relays which can increase the successful decoding probability of the receiver while decreasing the successful decoding probability of the eavesdropper. We performed extensive computer simulation based on Monte-Carlo. The simulation results reveal that the proposed relay selection scheme can improve the secrecy outage probability by 10 to 50 times compared to the existing relay selection scheme.
In this paper, we study a spectrum sharing network (SSN) where a spectrum sharing device (SSD) coexists with multiple wireless communication systems (WCSs) in the same channel. The SSD can operate with either a duty cycle (DC) channel access mechanism or a listen-before-talk (LBT) channel access mechanism, whereas WCSs operate with an LBT mechanism. An opportunistic channel selection scheme for the SSD in the SSN is first proposed to minimize the outage probability. The optimal data transmission time for the DC-based SSD is derived to further improve the outage probability. We also derive the exact and closed-form outage probability of the proposed channel selection in the SSN by assuming that the number of WCSs operating in each channel is uniformly distributed. The simulation results show that the proposed channel selection scheme outperforms other channel selection schemes. It was also observed that a DC-based SSD with an optimal data transmission time provides a better outage performance than an LBT-based SSD. As the number of available channels increases, the channel selection scheme plays an important role in minimizing the outage probability of the SSNs.

This paper studies relay selection and power allocation for amplify-and-forward (AF) based two-way relay networks (TWRN) with asymmetric traffic requirements (ATR). A joint relay selection and power allocation algorithm is proposed to decrease the outage probability of TWRN with ATR. In this algorithm, two sources exchange information with the help of the relay during two time slots. We first calculate the optimal power allocation parameters based on instantaneous channel state information (CSI), and then derive a tight lower bound of outage probability. Furthermore, we propose a simplified relay selection criterion, which can be easily calculated as harmonic mean of instantaneous channel gains, according to the outage probability expressions. Simulation results verified the theoretical analyses we presented. It is shown that the outage probability of our algorithm improves 3-4dB comparing with that of other existing algorithms, and the lower bound is tight comparing with actual value for the entire signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) region.

The future wireless communication systems will use spatial multiplexing with Multiple Input Multiple Output(MIMO) system to take advantage of large channel capacity gains. In such systems it will be desirable to select a sub-set of available transmit or receive antennas to reduce cost and complexity. In this paper we propose a novel antenna selection schemes for MIMO systems be suitable for multipath environment. Also, we analyze the capacity and define the outage probability for a novel antenna selection schemes for MIMO systems in multipath environment.
In this paper, exact closed-form expressions for outage probability and bit error probability (BEP) are presented for multi-hop decode-and-forward (DF) relaying schemes in conjunction with cooperative diversity, in which selection combining technique is employed at each node. We have shown that the proposed protocol offers remarkable diversity advantage over direct transmission as well as the conventional DF relaying schemes with the same combining technique. We then investigate the system performance when different diversity schemes are employed. It has been observed that the system performance loss due to selection combining relative to maximal ratio combining is not significant. Simulations are performed to confirm our theoretical analysis.

In genetic association studies, pleiotropy is a phenomenon where a variant or a genetic region affects multiple traits or diseases. There have been many studies identifying cross-phenotype genetic associations. But, most of statistical approaches for detection of pleiotropy are based on individual tests where a single variant association with multiple traits is tested one at a time. These approaches fail to account for relations among correlated variants. Recently, multivariate regularization methods have been proposed to detect pleiotropy in analysis of high-dimensional genomic data. However, they suffer a problem of tuning parameter selection, which often results in either too many false positives or too small true positives. In this article, we applied selection probability to multivariate regularization methods in order to identify pleiotropic variants associated with multiple phenotypes. Selection probability was applied to individual elastic-net, unified elastic-net and multi-response elastic-net regularization methods. In simulation studies, selection performance of three multivariate regularization methods was evaluated when the total number of phenotypes, the number of phenotypes associated with a variant, and correlations among phenotypes are different. We also applied the regularization methods to a wild bean dataset consisting of 169,028 variants and 17 phenotypes.

Downlink (DL) data rate for a MS is influenced by not only the signal to interference and noise ratio (SINR) but also the amount of radio resources allocated to the MS. Therefore, when a MS uses SINR to select a cell to associate with, it cannot receive the fastest DL data rate all the time if it associates with a congested cell. Moreover, the SINR-based cell selection may result in cell loads unbalance, which decreases the efficiency of a network. To address the issue, we propose a novel cell selection method by considering not only SINR but also a cell load which are combined into two cell selection criteria. One is the maximum achievable data rate and the other is the minimum outage probability. The simulation results show that the cell selection based on the maximum achievable data rate is superior to the SINR-based method and the method using the minimum outage probability in terms of the system efficiency and the fairness in cell loads while the cell selection method based on the minimum outage probability is superior to the others in terms of the outage probability of a MS.

In this paper, we consider a downlink non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) using multiple transmit antennas, where the transmit antenna selection scheme is used to reduce the system complexity. Thus, in this paper, we propose radio resource allocation and receiver selection schemes in order to improve the outage probability performance of the downlink NOMA system using the transmit antenna selection scheme. In particular, the receiver selection scheme is a method of grouping the receivers to improve the outage probability performance, and the radio resource allocation scheme is a method of allocating radio resources to each group in order to enhance the outage probability performance. In addition, through the computer simulation under the assumption of independent Rayleigh fading channels, we show that the proposed radio resource allocation and receiver selection schemes can improve the outage probability performance at the expense of the sum rate performance.
Recently, efficient partial relay selection (e-PRS) was proposed as an enhanced version of PRS. In comparing e-PRS, PRS, and the best relay selection (BRS), there is a tradeoff between complexity and performance; that is, the complexity for PRS, e-PRS, and BRS is low to high, respectively, but vice versa for performance. In this paper, we study the outage probability for e-PRS in decode-and-forward (DF) relaying systems over non-identical Nakagami-m fading channels, where the fading parameter m is an integer. In particular, we provide closed-form expressions of the exact outage probability and asymptotic outage probability for e-PRS in DF relaying systems. Numerical results show that e-PRS achieves similar outage performance to that of BRS for a low or medium signal-to-noise ratio, a high fading parameter, a small number of relays, and a large difference between the average channel powers for the first and the second hops.

In a single-source and multi-relay amplify-forward (AF) cooperative network, the outage probability and the power allocation are two key factors to influence the performance of an entire system. In this paper, an optimized AF relay selection by an exclusive method and near optimal power allocation (NOPA) is proposed for both good outage probability and power efficiency. Given the same power at the source and the relay nodes, a threshold for selecting the relay nodes is deduced and employed to minimize the average outage probability. It mainly excludes the relay nodes with much higher thresholds over the aforementioned threshold and thus the remainders of the relay nodes participate in cooperative forwarding efficiently. So the proposed scheme can improve the utility of the resources in the cooperative multi-relay system, as well as reduce the computational complexity. In addition, based on the proposed scheme, a NOPA is also suggested to approach sub-optimal power efficiency with low complexity. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme obtains about 2.1dB and 5.8dB performance gain at outage probability of $10^{-4}$, when compared with the all-relay-forward (6 participated relays) and the single-relay-forward schemes. Furthermore, it obtains the minimum outage probability among all selective relay schemes with the same number of the relays. Meanwhile, it approaches closely to the optimal exhaustive scheme, thus reduce much complexity. Moreover, the proposed NOPA scheme achieves better outage probability than those of the equal power allocation schemes. Therefore, the proposed scheme can obtain good outage probability, low computational complexity and high power efficiency, which makes it pragmatic efficiently in the single-source and multi-relay AF based cooperative networks.
