  • In this paper, we consider the variable selection methods in the Cox model when a large number of gene expression levels are involved with survival time. Deciding which genes are associated with survival time has been a challenging problem because of the large number of genes and relatively small sample size (n<

  • In order to high-performance data Processing, effective resource selection is needed since grid resources are composed of heterogeneous networks and OS systems in the grid environment. In this paper. we classify grid resources with data properties and user requirements for resource selection using a decision tree method. Our resource selection method can provide suitable resource selection methodology using classification with a decision tree to grid users. This paper evaluates our grid system performance with throughput. utilization, job loss, and average of turn-around time and shows experiment results of our resource selection model in comparison with those of existing resource selection models such as Condor-G and Nimrod-G. These experiment results showed that our resource selection model provides a vision of efficient grid resource selection methodology.

  • Local smoothing jump detection procedure is a popular method for detecting jump locations and the performance of the jump detector heavily depends on the choice of the bandwidth. However, little work has been done on this issue. In this paper, we propose the bootstrap bandwidth selection method which can be used for any kernel-based or local polynomial-based jump detector. The proposed bandwidth selection method is fully data-adaptive and its performance is evaluated through a simulation study and a real data example.

  • In recent years, nonparametric kernel estimation of regresion function are abundant and widely applicable to many areas of statistics. Most of modern researches concerned with the fixed global bandwidth selection which can be used in the estimation of regression function with all the same value for all x. In this paper, we propose a method for selecting locally varing bandwidth based on bootstrap method in kernel estimation of fixed design regression. Performance of proposed bandwidth selection method for finite sample case is conducted via Monte Carlo simulation study.

  • Feature selection is a preprocessing technique commonly used on high dimensional data. Feature selection studies how to select a subset or list of attributes that are used to construct models describing data. Feature selection methods attempt to explore data's intrinsic properties by employing statistics or information theory. The recent developments have involved approaches like correlation method, dimensionality reduction and mutual information technique. This feature selection have become the focus of much research in areas of applications with massive and complex data sets. In this paper, we provide a feature selection method considering data characteristics and generalization capability. It provides a computational approach for feature selection based on fuzzy cluster analysis of its attribute values and its performance measures. And we apply it to the system for classifying computer virus and compared with heuristic method using the contrast concept. Experimental result shows the proposed approach can give a feature ranking, select the features, and improve the system performance.

  • Intrusion detection systems (IDSs) have an important effect on system defense and security. Recently, most IDS methods have used transformed features, selected features, or original features. Both feature transformation and feature selection have their advantages. Neighborhood component analysis feature transformation and genetic feature selection (NCAGAFS) is proposed in this research. NCAGAFS is based on soft computing and data mining and uses the advantages of both transformation and selection. This method transforms features via neighborhood component analysis and chooses the best features with a classifier based on a genetic feature selection method. This novel approach is verified using the KDD Cup99 dataset, demonstrating higher performances than other well-known methods under various classifiers have demonstrated.

  • Nowadays many enterprises build e-procurement systems. An e-procurement is a Web-based procurement process and its functionalities are considered important in the B2B e-commerce. Buyers should select competent suppliers for a successful e-procurement. Therefore, this study proposes a method using the analytic hierarchy process(AHP) for building a Web-based supplier selection system. In detail, the purpose of this study is (1) to review methods previously used when buyers selecting suppliers and to extract important selection criteria: (2) to explain extended AHP method adopted by this study among supplier selection methods: (3) to describe the supplier selection steps using extended AHP : and (4) to propose a decision support system embedding the methodology described above. The proposed system comprises of three phase: first phase is to evaluate suppliers on enterprise level: second phase to evaluate them on each transaction level: third phase to post-evaluate them.

  • The comparative evaluation is the most effective method for site selection because the selection of waste treatment facility is to determine the optimum site out of limited candidate sites. This study adopted the ordinal scale evaluation, one of methods of comparative evaluation. The ordinal scale evaluation aims to determine the investigating items referring to the character of sites, to determine the importance factors for investigating items, and to determine the optimum site according to the quantitative evaluation. This study has focussed on reflecting the opinion of residents to the maximum extent with a weight on social and economic aspects, considering the state of confrontation against each other between the autonomous government organization and local residents, which is being emerged as a social issue relating to the evaluation rating on each item of site selection of an optimum site. Therefore, rational, and clear validity investigations and proper reduction of both time and expenses in site selection as well through this a study.

  • On the situation cooperating with business partners on the supply chain, systematic decision making process is a critical issue for them. The two major issues of purchasing strategy such as selecting vendors and managing them are important part of their overall business activities. This study mainly focus on the former issue of the vendor selection. Through the empirical study, analytical hierarchy process (AHP) method was applied to select vendors among supplier vendors based on four selection criteria such as the level of quality, product on management ability, delivery, and price. The results of study showed the main criteria of vender selection was the ability of quality management. The vender selected based on AHP and the current selection method was different, but implicitly projected the dilemma situation between quality and price which occurs in decision making process of real life.
