  • This study analyzed questions related to the content knowledge on the subject of chemistry for middle and high school teacher employment examinations conducted from the school years 2009 to 2013 based on the evaluation scope of the chemistry subject content knowledge and evaluation contents that were presented by the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation (KICE). To achieve the objectives of this study, a total of 140 questions were collected with respect to the questions that appeared on the test over the last 5 years, which aimed to evaluate the level of applicants' knowledge related to the contents of chemistry subject. The ratio of the contents covered in the test was assessed based on the scope of evaluation and the items for evaluation among the 4 subjects. Based on the results, suggestions were presented in relation to the operation of the chemistry curriculum for the Department of Chemistry Education at the college of education or the restructuring of the evaluation scope. There was a significant difference in the ratio of items that appeared on the test among the 4 subjects related to the content knowledge on chemistry. Also, there was a remarkable difference in the ratio of items covered in the test among the evaluation scope by subject. The results of the analysis on the evaluation content items suggested that 41 items out of 122 did not appear in the teacher employment examination for 5 years. Based on such results of analysis, this study discussed the need for readjusting the ratio of items covered in the test on content knowledge related to chemistry or the evaluation scope and evaluation content items.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore ways to improve developing exam questions for Earth science education by analyzing exam trend of Earth science education in the secondary-school teacher employment test (TET, hereafter). For this purpose, we developed an analysis framework to analyze items of Earth science education in the secondary-school TET, and this analysis framework covers required courses for 'theory of Earth science education' of 'Earth science teaching certificate courses'. The analysis framework consists of big categories, assessment domains, and assessment components. We divided system changes in secondary-school TET into 4 types, and analyzed exams of 2014-2018 school year, which is the existing exam system. According to the results, 22-24 points out of 80 have been allotted to Earth science education. Among assessment domains, Earth science Teaching & Learning domain has taken the highest percentage of scores and item numbers, followed by Earth science inquiry, history & philosophy of science, etc. For each domain, we analyzed exam tendencies in detail. Based the results, we suggested ways to improve developing exam questions for Earth science education in the secondary-school TET, and ways to improve curriculum for Earth science education in the teacher education program.

  • This paper is to examine new programme of study for geography by a revised geography(including historical, geographical and social understanding) National Curriculum in England. The new primary and secondary National Curriculum was respectively issued in 2007 for implementation from September 2008 and 2010 for implementation from September 2011. The revised National Curriculum was changed more than that of 1995 and 2000 in terms of its formation and content. Especially, Primary National Curriculum was rebuilded to the six areas of learning, in the end KS1-2 geography was integrated in 'historical, geographical and social understanding'. As a result of that, the subject named as geography only remains for KS3. Nevertheless, the new National Curriculum is consisted of programme of study(PoS) and attainment target(AT). But new programme of study was changed more than that of former curriculum in terms of its formation and content. Programme of study for primary school is organized with curriculum aims, the importance of areas of learning, essential knowledge, key skills, cross-curricular studies, breadth of learning and curriculum progression. On the other hand, that of geography for KS3 is organized with curriculum aims, the importance of geography, key concepts, key processes, range and content, curriculum opportunities. This paper examined on categorical features of new programme of study for KS3 geography and its implications for effective geography curriculum design and planning.

  • The students in secondary schools have been taught calculus as an important subject in mathematics. The order of chapters-the limit of a sequence followed by limit of a function, and differentiation and integration- is because the limit of a function and the limit of a sequence are required as prerequisites of differentiation and integration. Specifically, the limit of a sequence is used to define definite integral as the limit of the Riemann Sum. However, many researchers identified that students had difficulty in understanding the concept of definite integral defined as the limit of the Riemann Sum. Consequently, they suggested alternative ways to introduce definite integral. Based on these researches, the definition of definite integral in the 2015-Revised Curriculum is not a concept of the limit of the Riemann Sum, which was the definition of definite integral in the previous curriculum, but "F(b)-F(a)" for an indefinite integral F(x) of a function f(x) and real numbers a and b. This change gives rise to differences among ways of introducing definite integral and explaining the relationship between definite integral and area in each textbook. As a result of this study, we have identified that there are a variety of ways of introducing definite integral in each textbook and that ways of explaining the relationship between definite integral and area are affected by ways of introducing definite integral. We expect that this change can reduce the difficulties students face when learning the concept of definite integral.

  • This study was attempted to explore in depth the education of cultural diversity in the curriculum and textbooks of middle school according to [1] As a result, the educational goals in the curriculum emphasized[2] the realization of the meaning and value of cultural diversity education reflecting the global citizen education in various time, space background and socio-cultural context. The purpose of the curriculum guidelines is specified, and the following is given: "To properly recognize the diversity of the world culture; To acquire knowledge on cultural diversity; To grasp important functions in the city life, and to have attitudes and qualities required as members of the world, and to develop a pluralistic literacy ability''. In the textbooks, the subjects of the cultural diversity education are mainly based on the curriculum standards, the education area of the 7th grade is the 'human community life', the education area of the 8th grade is the origin and development of the Chinese civilization, Suggesting the scope of the theme 'harmonious coexistence with the world'. In order to analyze cultural diversity education in response to the demands of the times, we analyzed three factors such as diversity, identity, and interrelationship.

  • The purpose of this study was to make valuable suggestions for improving environmental education(EE) teaching materials. For the purpose of this study, we analyzed four secondary school EE textbooks in the perspective of environmental literacy components. The findings of this study are as follows: (1) As a whole, the EE textbooks tend to focus the understanding environmental knowledge much more than environmental activities. (2) In 'main text' domain of EE textbooks, environmental information, including environmental issue knowledge, is much more focused than environmental attitudes and behavior, including socio-political and environmental issue knowledge. (3) In 'graphic data' domain, environmental information about environmental issue knowledge was most prevalent. (4) Most learning activities focus on 'issue skill' component, rather than 'attitude' and 'action' component. (5) The objectives of EE in the 7th national Curriculum were not explicitly embedded in textbooks and too much is inclined toward 'knowledge' and 'skill'. Accordingly, it is necessary to develop 'module-type' EE textbooks to enable integrative EE. Also, it is suggested to develop specific strategies for linking environmental knowledge and attitude/behavior.

  • The purpose of this study is to confirm the MKT(Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching) of the in-service mathematics teachers on the statistics(Representative value, Degree of scattering) through the comparative analysis between the sub-elements of the MKT. In addition, it is to examine the factors that cause the difference of the subjects' MKT. To accomplish this, by the subject of 12 secondary in-service mathematics teachers, in this study the test items of the MKT on the statistics were developed and data were collected and analyzed. As a result of the analysis of the MKT test sheet, the CCK(Common Content Knowledge) and SCK(Specialized Content Knowledge) of the mathematics teacher was confirmed as a high score, whereas the and KCS(Knowledge of Content and Students) and KCT(Knowldge of Curriculum and teaching) were confirmed as low scores. In addition, through these results, it was shown that the difference in MKT's elements the middle school and high school teachers obtain occurred slightly.
