Lithium-ion batteries have greatly expanded along with the mobile phone market, and as the electric vehicle business is activated in earnest, they will attract many people's attention even afterwards. Until now, many people have attracted attention to the recovery of valuable metals inside lithium-ion batteries, but graphite, which is mainly used as an anode material, is also worth recycling. Therefore, in order to recover graphite with high purity and valuable metals, graphite that can be used as an anode material of a secondary battery may be generated again through a regeneration process of purifying and separating graphite from a waste lithium-ion battery and recovering electrical characteristics of graphite. This paper describes the process of converting waste graphite into regenerated graphite and the environmental and economic effects of regenerated graphite.

In this study, an anode material for lithium secondary batteries was manufactured using petroleum-based residual oil, which is a petroleum refining by-product. Among petroleum-based residual oils, pyrolysis fuel oil (PFO), fluidized catalyst cracking-decant oil (FCC-DO), and vacuum residue (VR) were used as carbon precursors. The physicochemical characteristics of petroleum-based residual oil were confirmed through Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization Time-of-Flight (MALDI-TOF) and elemental analysis (EA), and the structural characteristics of anode materials manufactured from residual oil were evaluated using X-ray crystallography (XRD) and Raman spectroscopic techniques. VR was found to contain a wide range of molecular weight distributions and large amounts of impurities compared to PFO and FCC-DO, and PFO and FCC-DO exhibited almost similar physicochemical characteristics. From the XRD analysis results, carbonized PFO and FCC-DO showed similar d002 values. However, it was confirmed that FCC-DO had a more developed layered structure than PFO in Lc (Length of a and c axes in the crystal system) and La values. In addition, FCC-DO showed the best cycle characteristics in electrochemical characteristics evaluation. According to the physicochemical and electrochemical results of the petroleum-based residual oil, FCC-DO is a better carbon precursor for a lithium secondary battery than PFO and VR.

In order to increase the utilization of biomass, an electrochemical performance was considered after manufacturing a carbon anode material (SV-C) for a Setaria viridis-based lithium ion secondary battery through a heat treatment process. When the heat treatment temperature of the Setaria viridis is as low as 750 ℃, the capacitance (1003.3 mAh/g, at 0.1 C) is high due to the negative (-) charge of oxygen present on the surface attracting lithium, along with the low crystallinity and high specific surface area (126 m2/g), but the capacity retention rate is believed to be as low as 61.0% (at 500 cycles and 1 C). In addition, it was confirmed that when the heat treatment temperature increased to 1150 ℃, the carbon layer was condensed to be excellent in arrangement, and the structural defects were reduced, resulting in a significant reduction in the specific surface area (32 m2/g) of the pores. Furthermore, when the surface defects of the anode material are reduced and the crystallinity is increased, the capacity retention rate is as high as 89.7% (at 500 cycles and 1 C), but the degree of defects is small, the active point is reduced, and the specific capacity is considered to be very low at 471.7 mAh/g. In the scope of this study, it was found that in the case of the Setaria viridis-based carbon anode material manufactured according to the heat treatment temperature, the surface oxygen content and crystallinity have higher reliability on the electrochemical properties of the anode material than the specific surface area.
Zn/Air secondary batteries are high energy density type and environment-friendly. Also, they have safer properties than batteries of other type by low manufacturing cost and using the electrolyte solution. But, they have a weak concerning large output discharge. Oxygen evolution reaction(OER) and oxgen reduction reaction(ORR) in aqueous solution make a result of a decrease of cell efficiency and life span. Therefore, to minimize the voltage drop from between OCV and charge/discharge voltage is key point. The problem should be solved through developing catalysts of high efficiency. In this study, we synthesized $Pr_{1-x}(Sr,\;Ca)_x\;CoO_3$ powders by citric method and then measured physical characteristics of each powder by XRD, SEM, TGA etc. We examined its electrochemical properties by the cathodic polarization, anodic polarization and cyclic voltammogram. We achieved results that new catalysts showed better performances than existing $La_{1-x}Sr_xCoO_3$, $La_{1-x}Ca_xCoO_3$, ect. catalysts prepared in our lab.
This study investigated characteristics of ICR18650 batteries with different electrolyte compositions in the range of $80^{\circ}C\~-30^{\circ}C$. ICR18650 cells using $1M\;LiPF_6,\;EC:\;DEC:\;DMC(3:5:5)\;and\; 1M\;LiPF_6,\;EC:\;DEC:\;DMC:\;EMC(3:5:4:1)$ electrolyte systems, which DMC and EMC solvent were added in $1M\;LiPF_6,\;EC:\;DEC$ electrolytes have high specific energy in the wide range of temperature. The specific energy of ICR18650 batteries using $1M\;LiPF_6,\;EC:\;DEC:\;DMC(3:5:5)\;and\; 1M\;LiPF_6,\;EC:\;DEC;\:\;DMC:\;EMC(3:5:4:1)$ electrolyte at $-30^{\circ}C\;was\;64\%\;and\;59\%$ of room temperature$(25^{\circ}C)$, respectively.

A lithium secondary battery is the most promising candidate for future energy storage devices. On the other hand, the battery capacity decreases gradually due to the small amount of water and decomposition of the salts during the charging and discharging process, which deteriorates at high temperatures. Many researchers focused on increasing the cycling performance, but there have been few studies on the fundamental problem that removes water and HF molecules. In this study, silane molecules that are capable of absorbing water and HF molecules are introduced to the separator. Firstly, silica-coated amino-silane (APTES, 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane) was synthesized, then the silica reacted with epoxy-silane, GPTMS ((3-glycidyloxypropyl)trimethoxysilane). A ceramic-coated separator was fabricated using the silane-coated silica, which is coated on porous polyethylene substrates. FT-IR spectroscopy and TEM analysis were performed to examine the chemical composition and the shape of the silane-coated silica. SEM was performed to confirm the ceramic layers. LMO half cells were fabricated to evaluate the cycling performance at 60 ℃. The cells equipped with a GPTMS-silica separator showed stable cycling performance, suggesting that it would be a solution for improving the cycling performance of the Li-ion batteries at high temperatures.
The recovery of valuable metals from waste lithium-based secondary batteries is very important in terms of efficiently utilizing earth's limited number of resources. Currently, the cathode material of a LiFePO4 battery, a type of battery which is widely used in automobiles, contains approximately 5% lithium. After use, the lithium in these batteries can be used again as a raw material for new batteries through lithium recycling. In this study, low-concentration sulfuric acid, a commonly used type of inorganic acid, was used to selectively leach the lithium contained in a waste LiFePO4 cathode material powder. In addition, in order to compare and analyze the leaching efficiency and separation efficiency of each component, the optimalleaching conditions were derived by applying a two-step leaching process with pulp density being used as a variable during leaching. When leaching with pulp density as a variable, it was confirmed that at a pulp density of 200 g/L, the separation efficiency was approximately 200 times higher than at other pulp densities because the iron and phosphorus components were hardly leached at this pulp density. Accordingly, the pulp density of 200 g/L was used tooptimize the leaching conditions for the selective leaching and recovery of lithium.
In this paper, crosslinked polyethylene (PE) separators for lithium secondary batteries were prepared by an electron beam irradiation under various beam currents and dose rates. The crosslinking degree increased up to maximum 71% with an increasing absorption dose and with a decreasing beam current. The PE separators irradiated at lower beam currents showed better thermal shrinkage (51%) and mechanical properties than the original PE separator and PE separators irradiated at higher beam current. The ionic conductivity ($1.01{\times}10^{-3}\;S/cm$) and electrolyte uptake (275%) of the crosslinked PE separators were comparable to the original PE separator.

A new treatment of $LiV_3O_8$ has been proposed for improving its electrochemical behavior as a cathode material for secondary lithium batteries. Lithium trivanadate, $LiV_3O_8$, can be prepared in a finely dispersed form by dehydration of aqueous lithium trivanadate gels. The ultrasonic treatment method for Liv30s has been examined in comparison with $LiV_3O_8$ prepared by solutionmethod. The ultrasonically treated products in water were characterized by XRD (X-ray diffractometry), TGA (thermogravimetric analysis) and SEM (scanning electron microscopy). These measurements showed that the ultrasonic treatment process of aqueous $LiV_3O_8$ caused a decrease in crytallinity and considerable increased in specific surface area and interlayer spacing. The product, ultrasonically treated in water for 2 h, showed a high initial discharge capacity and was charge-discharge cycled without large capacity loss. The ultrasonic treated Liv30s can improve not only the specific capacity, but also the cycling behavior

Li-ion batteries are energy sources that are widely used in applications such as notebooks, cellular phones, power tools, and vehicles. They are devices in which stored chemical energy is changed to electrical energy by electrochemical reactions. They have a high energy density, small size, and are lightweight. In particular, power tools and vehicles require high charge/discharge rates. Therefore, in this paper, we perform electrochemical simulations using a commercial finite-element analysis program to determine the high discharge-rate characteristics of Li-ion cells. In addition, by performing high discharge-rate simulations, we found that the limited discharge current was 63 A. Based on the results obtained, we investigate the behavior of Li-ion cells with a high rate of discharge.
