Carbody bolster must be a strong structural member of the underframe because it is in the direct line of weight transmission. On the other hand, carbody bolster is a heavy member that occupied about 20~25% in the weight of underframe. In order to reduce the weight of carbody bolster, we study the design factors such as bending stiffness, bending strength and deformation according to the change of carbody bolster's second moment of area. And we investigate the design factors of a total of 10 species of existing rail vehicles. The results of this study can be used as practicable method in designing carbody bolster in the future.

Purpose : To assess the clinical results of second toe-to-finger transfer in traumatic amputated index finger. Materials and Methods : For the clinical evaluation, we have analyzed 12 patients with ROM of finger joints, pinch power, static two point discrimination, life functional assessment, and patient's satisfaction. Results : In genral ROM was $54.4^{\circ}$ at MP joint, $17^{\circ}$ at PIP joint and $6.7^{\circ}$ at DIP joint. Pinch power was good in 3 cases, fair in 7 cases, and poor in 2 cases. Daily life activity and patient's acceptance were satisfactory. Conclusion : Although transfered toe function may be poorer than normal finger, the hand was restored to a useful, sensate and versatile functional unit.

In 1997, H. Li [12] proposed a conjecture: if $M^n(n{\geqslant}3)$ is a complete spacelike hypersurface in de Sitter space $S^{n+1}_1(1)$ with constant normalized scalar curvature R satisfying $\frac{n-2}{n}{\leqslant}R{\leqslant}1$, then is $M^n$ totally umbilical? Recently, F. E. C. Camargo et al. ([5]) partially proved the conjecture. In this paper, from a different viewpoint, we study closed convex spacelike hypersurface $M^n$ in locally symmetric Lorentz space $L^{n+1}_1$ and also prove that $M^n$ is totally umbilical if the square of length of second fundamental form of the closed convex spacelike hypersurface $M^n$ is constant, i.e., Theorem 1. On the other hand, we obtain that if the sectional curvature of the closed convex spacelike hypersurface $M^n$ in locally symmetric Lorentz space $L^{n+1}_1$ satisfies $K(M^n)$ > 0, then $M^n$ is totally umbilical, i.e., Theorem 2.

Recently, from the viewpoint of TQM, the criticism and new approaches toward Japanese TQC have made much progress in Japan. It shows that these new approaches to quality are what are needed these days. In this connection, this paper aims at the study of a reform of Japanese TQC. This paper consists of the following two steps. First, several success factors of TQM in Japanese companies were selected through the study of literature. Second, actual approaches to or recognition of TQM in those companies were examined through the AHP analysis. The results of this paper are as follows: First, quality improvement and cost-down efforts within a factory have been emphasized. On the other hand, the development of strategic quality management is weak. Second, the development of creativity by individual autonomous teamwork is more needed than the development of creativity by group consciousness in companies. Third, the reform of upper-class management must be carried out by powerful leadership of top management.

The immunogenecity of low molecular weight ($MW{\le}30,000$) immunogens in laying hens was investigated. Immunogens were insulin derivatives and ${\beta}$-lactoglobulin(${\beta}-Lg$). Insulin derivatives were reduced- carboxymethylated(RCM) insulin, and RCM-A and RCM-B chain of insulin. The yolk antibodies against RCM-A chain of insulin appeared after the first immunization. The yolk antibodies against RCM-B chain of insulin were elicited 5 weeks after the third booster injection. Although the anti-RCM-B chain yolk antibodies recognized native insulin, the anti-RCM-A chain yolk antibodies didn't native insulin. The anti-RCM insulin yolk antibodies were induced after the second booster injection and showed cross-reactivities with native insulin. On the other hand, ${\beta}-Lg$ showed stronger immunogenecity than insulin derivatives. The $anti-{\beta}-Lg$ yolk antibodies were produced after the second booster injection and the peak titer was reached 3 weeks after the third booster injection.

We investigate the rotation measure (RM) of the nearby low luminosity AGN M87 by using archival polarimetric VLA data at 8, 15, 22 and 43 GHz. For the first time, the RM properties of its jet are resolved at at arc-second scales. The distribution of the RM appears to be a gaussian with a mean value of ~200rad/m2 and the power spectrum follows a power law with index -2.5. A simple Kolmogorov model assuming a random turbulent magnetic fields extrinsic to the jet appears not to be adequate to explain the observed RM power spectra. On the other hand, underlying RM gradients possibly connected with the jet could be a possible interpretation.

In this paper, the H1*-H2* measure is introduced and exact procedures for obtaining the H1*-H2* value are fully specified, The H1*-H2* measure (a corrected difference in dB between the first and second harmonics) has been devised to provide an acoustic correlate of the phonation mode of a vowel following a consonant. With this measure, we can investigate the phonation mode of a vowel that is free from the F1 amplitude perturbation effect caused by the preceding consonant, which is especially salient at the voicing onset position of the vowel. For identical research purposes, on the other hand, the H1-H2 measure (the observed difference in dB between the first and second harmonic) has been employed in many previous studies. This paper compares these two measures by illustrating experimental results of exploring post-release phonation modes of vowels following the different manner classes of stop consonants in Korean $\square$i.e., the tense, lenis, and aspirated stops.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the weight measurement tasks according to children's ages and whether 4-to 6-year-old children use proper measurement equipment to measure weight. The study subjects were 105 preschool children: 37,38, and 30 4-, 5-, and 6-year-old children, respectively. The results showed that young children use 3 to 4 strategies. They used a strategy to estimate objects visually on the first step in measurement by direct comparison. On the second step, in measurement by nonstandard unit, they held up objects with one hand or two hands. That is, two strategies were shown in measuring objects with hands in this second step. On the third step, which is measured by standard unit, they used a strategy to choose the equal arm balance out of suggested measurement equipment.

The tobacco moth, Ephestia elutella Hubner (Lepidoptera: Pyralididae), was first reported one of the serious of stored tobacco in Korea in 1939 (8). In recent years, tobacco moth lavae were observed infesting in all of the tobacco storage warehouses in this Country. Adults of the tobacco moth for the seasonal occurrence were studied in the three and four regions in 1981 and 1982, respectively. This species was caught from early May to late October in all regions for both years. In 1981, the first emergence peak was in late May to late at Andong, early June at Suweon and the second one in middle August in both regions. In 1982, on the other hand, there were three peak times, late May and July, and middle September. But the relate size of the peaks was different in two years; the second peak showed about 66% of the total number of tobacco moths captured in the whole year in 1981 at Suweon and 59% of those at Andong, while the first peak had 32% at Suweon and 57% at Shintanjin in 1982. This difference in relative peak sizes was discussed.

The critical current of Bi-2223/Ag HTS wire could be improved by the second phase modification pre-treatment (SPMT). On the other hand, the pre-treatment conditions are possible to affect to the degradation of silver alloy sheath, such as brittleness. Chlorine was detected at the outer sheath of wire by Auger observation, we also have tried to search new pre-treatment conditions that do not affect the degradation of silver sheath but, improve the critical current of the wire.
