The objective of this study is to examine the climate change impact assessment on Korean water resources considering the uncertainties of Global Climate Models (GCMs) and hydrological models. The 3 different emission scenarios (A2, A1B, B1) and 13 GCMs' results are used to consider the uncertainties of the emission scenario and GCM, while PRMS, SWAT, and SLURP models are employed to consider the effects of hydrological model structures and potential evapotranspiration (PET) computation methods. The 312 ensemble results are provided to 109 mid-size sub-basins over South Korean and Gaussian kernel density functions obtained from their ensemble results are suggested with the ensemble mean and their variabilities of the results. It shows that the summer and winter runoffs are expected to be increased and spring runoff to be decreased for the future 3 periods relative to past 30-year reference period. It also provides that annual average runoff increased over all sub-basins, but the increases in the northern basins including Han River basin are greater than those in the southern basins. Due to the reason that the increase in annual average runoff is mainly caused by the increase in summer runoff and consequently the seasonal runoff variations according to climate change would be severe, the climate change impact on Korean water resources could intensify the difficulties to water resources conservation and management. On the other hand, as regards to the uncertainties, the highest and lowest ones are in winter and summer seasons, respectively.

Evapotranspriation (ET) was measured by eddy covariance method in two key ecosystems in Korea: the Seolmacheon site (a mixed forest in a complex terrain, SMK) and the Cheongmicheon site (a homogeneous rice paddy, CRK). By using the multi-year observations (SMK: Sep. 2007 - Dec. 2009, CRK: Aug. 2008 - Dec. 2009), we quantified ET and analyzed its temporal variations and control mechanisms based on the radiatively coupled combination equation. During the study period, the accumulated precipitation was about 3213 mm for the SMK site, of which about 30% (i.e., 990 mm), returned to the atmosphere as ET. At the CRK site from Jan. - Dec., 2009, the annual ET was 553 mm, which was about 40% of the annual rainfall (of 1401 mm). Both sites showed a characteristic seasonality with mid-season depression in ET that are associated with the reduced amount of available energy during the monsoon season. The decoupling parameter (${\Omega}^*$), which indicates the measure of interaction between vegetation and the atmosphere, averaged about 0.4 for the SMK site and the CRK site during the growing season. The ET from both sites was more influenced by air saturation deficit and surface conductance than available energy.

The purpose of this study is to investigate paleoenvironmental conditions of the shallow sea around Jeju Island during the Late Holocene using geochemical contents of the bivalve (Glycymeris albolineata) collected from the Sangmori Shell Mound. The bivalve shell used shows the archaeological age of 2,300 yr BP. Stable carbon and oxygen isotope compositions show that growth rates decreased with aging. Coeval trends of both isotope compositions can be observed: heavier values during winters and lighter values summers except for their young and old growth stages. The seasonality of bivalve shell appear to reflect seasonal variations of paleotemperature as well as paleosalinity. Especially China Coastal Water with low salinity was transported into the southern Jeju Strait from Changjiang River during summer periods. Heavier carbon isotope values during winter indicate higher productivity, and this is supported by high density of phytoplanktons and higher chlorophyll contents during winter time. For accurate interpretation, monitoring of present-day conditions of shallow marine water as well as additional geochemical analysis of the same Recent bivalve may be necessary.

In this study, experiment on phosphorus removal was performed by using microbubble liquid film flotation tank with microbubble module. After dissolving gas and liquid in dissolving tank, microbubble liquid film system created microbubbles in equal size under fixed low pressure. After being passed through $A_2O$ and m-$O_3$ process, secondary treatment wastewater was used as influent in phosphorus removal process. When the T-P concentration of influent was 2.89 mg/L, alum(8%, 30 mg/L) was injected into a microbubble flotation tank, the treatment resulted 94% of T-P removal rate. Remaining T-P concentration was less than 0.2 mg/L, which is in accord with the effluent quality standard. Seasonal variations in water temperature showed no differences in T-P removal property. When the inflow concentration of SS was 1.0 mg/L or more, it served as coagulation nuclei in the coagulation process. In that condition, average T-P removal rate was higher than 97%. When 50% of floated scum was returned, coagulator Al included in scum assisted the injected coagulator and maximized the coagulation efficiency of pollutant. In such treatment, the T-P concentration was measured as 0.18 mg/L and satisfied the outflow water quality standard, which is 0.2 mg/L or less.
The species composition and biomass of coralline algae around three (Uljin, Wolseong and Gori) nuclear power plants on the east coast of Korea were investigated seasonally from February 1997 to October 2006. As a result, 13 species of coralline algae were found during the past ten years. Among them, Corallina pilulifera, C. officinalis, Amphiroa zonata and Pneophyllum zostericolum were common species that occurred more than 50% in frequency during the study period. Species number of coralline algae were between 10$\sim$12 species at the breakwaters near the outfalls of power plants and 8$\sim$12 species at the control area, and differences in species composition were not observed among study sites. Seasonal fluctuations of mean biomass were 0$\sim$2,530 g dry wt m$^{-2}$ and dominant species in biomass was Corallina pilulifera at all the study sites. The breakwaters of power plants generally had a greater coralline algal biomass than the control area. Biomass proportions of coralline algae at the breakwaters of power plants were also higher than those at the control area. At the Uljin sites, particularly, biomass of coralline algae showed greatest in summer and biomass proportion showed highest during the summer season. Differences in the spatio-temporal patterns of coralline algae around three nuclear power plants on the east coast of Korea were presumably due to the regional temperature variations.

Laguna Lake is the largest inland fresh water body in the Philippines. It primarily serves as a site for aquaculture, hydropower, transportation, and water supply industries. Due to Laguna Lake's diverse functionalities, competition among water users became prominent. Water quality began to deteriorate due to various pollutant contributions in this process, thereby affecting the soundness of the aquatic ecosystem. This study was conducted to evaluate the current water quality management policy from the viewpoint of ecological environment through the evaluation of the water quality of Laguna Lake. Concentrations of water pollutants such as ammonia ($NH_3$), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chloride ($Cl^-$), pH, and total suspended solids (TSS) exceeded the water quality standards of the Philippines' Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). The water quality of the lake was also affected by the pollutant load due to agriculture and urban stormwater runoff in the watershed. The salinity and contaminated water from Pasig River also affected the water quality of Laguna Lake. Long-term water quality analysis showed that the water quality of Laguna Lake is also influenced by rainfall-related seasonal variations. The results of the water quality analysis of Laguna Lake indicated that the environmental management techniques of the Philippines should be changed from the conventional water management into an integrated watershed management scheme in the future. It is therefore necessary to study and introduce advanced watershed management measures in the Philippines based from the policies of other developed countries.

This study was conducted to identify problematic weed species in grape orchard fields to establish basic information for suitable weed control. Surveys of weed species occurring in grape orchards were conducted in Chungnam province including Daejeon and Sejong of Korea from April to June and from September to October in 2015. From the surveys, 50 weed species belonging to 23 families (33 annuals and 17 perennials) were identified. In the first survey, the most dominant weed species by the importance values was Poa annua (7.07) followed by Echinochloa crus-galli (6.56), Digitaria ciliaris (6.43) and Capsella bursapastoris (5.63). In the second survey, Rorippa palustris (9.59), Eclipta alba (9.13), Digitaria ciliaris (7.68) and Poa annua (7.68) were dominant. Different weed species and dominance patterns were detected according to weed control methods in the grape orchards. Seven weed species belonging to six families were identified in the field in which herbicides were being used as a weed control method. However, most weed species (21 species belonging to 9 families) were occurred in the mowing + tillage fields. These surveys provide information about seasonal variations of weeds species occurred in grape orchards and impact of different weed control methods on the weed occurrence.
A series of anchor stations were occupied along the Keum EAstuary during six different periods of tidal and fluvial regimes. The results clearly show that the formation and evolution of the turbidity maximum play an important role in the sedimentary processes in this environment. The turbidity maximum in the Keum Estuary is primarily related to the tidal range at the mouth and is caused by the resuspension of bottom sediments. In this estuary, the turbidity maximum is not a permanent feature and shows semidiurnal, fortnightly and seasonal variations. Repetition of deposition and resuspension of fine sediments occur in response to the variation in current velocity associated with semidiurnal tidal cycles. The core of turbidity maximum shifts landward or seaward accordion to the flood-ebb succession. The turbidity maximum also shows a fortnightly variation in response to the spring-neap cycles. Thus, the turbidity maximum degenerates during neap-tide and regenerates during spring-tide. The freshwater discharge is also an important factor in the formation and destruction of the turbidity maximum. The increase in freshwater discharge in rainy season can create an ebb-dominant current pattern which enhances the seaward transport of suspended sediments, resulting in the shortening of residence time of suspended materials in the estuary. Thus, under this high discharge condition, the turbidity maximum exists only during spring-tide and starts to disappear as the tidal amplitude decreases.
Observations of water temperature, salinity, pH and transparency of the Ko-ri sea area were made between May 1969 and April 1970. A seasonal thermocline was well defined in August, strongly isolating the warm serface water(19-22$^{\circ}C$) from the cold bottom water (14-17.5$^{\circ}C$) introducing from the open sea. In February the coldest isothermal water (11$^{\circ}C$) occurred. In the warm months(May- September), the salinity patterns show great variations with the coastal run-off During the cold months(December-April) the highest isohaline water (35 ) occurred. Annual ranges of surface and bottom pH values were 7.8-8.4(averaging 8.27) and 7.9-8.4(averaging 8.26), respectively. The transparency was greatest (6.0-7.0m) during winter and spring months and least (1.2-2.5m) during summer months.

This study was conducted to investigate the nutrient distribution and controlling factors in small stream estuaries. The seasonal variations of nutrient concentration (nitrate, ammonium and phosphate) were observed from 2010 to 2012 in the three streams located in Dang-hang (closed estuary: Go-seong, open estuary: Gu-man and Ma-am). The nutrient concentrations in Go-seong were significantly higher than other estuaries, because Go-seong is relatively large and has large nutrient load from the watershed. The dyke located at the estuary, also, caused the high nutrient concentration by reducing the dilution and increasing residence time. In all three streams, nitrate concentration was high at upstream and decreased toward the downstream, because high load of nutrient input were located at upstream. Dilution and biogeochemical removal toward the downstream also caused the trends. Especially, denitrification, a typical nitrogen removing process showed clear tendency of gradual decreasing from upstream to downstream. However, Ammonium and phosphate concentrations were high at upstream and decreased toward the downstream only when the nutrient loads from the rivers were high. Nutrient concentrations were low in summer and high in winter. Freshwater discharge in summer caused a decrease of the residence time and increase of the transport of nutrients to downstream and reduced the nutrient concentrations in the estuary. Nutrient removal by the biological production during high temperature periods also affected the low nutrient concentrations. Small stream estuaries showed distinct nutrient dynamics. It is necessary to understand these characteristics in order to properly manage the small stream estuary.
