A numerical model is developed to analyze the incompressible unsteady flow induced by the pump trip-out in the cooling water discharge culvert of thermal power plants. The numerical models has various features to deal concureently with the overall behavior of complicated unsteady flow due to the presence of cooling water internal system, seal well, air chamber, culvert, manholes, open channel and sea water. A leap-frog finite difference scheme is employed to solve governing equations, and the model is tested for a simple case of two tanks connected with a pipe. A fixed free surface boundary condition used earlier at the downstream end of culvert for large water body is investigated.
This study was accomplished to get the foundation design data of VMD(Vacuum Membrane Distillation) system for Solar Thermal VMD plant. VMD experiment was designed to evaluate thermal performance of VMD using PVDF(polyvinylidene fluoride) hollow fiber hydrophobic membranes. The total membrane surface area in a VMD module is $5.3m^2$. Experimental equipments to evaluate VMD system consists of various parts such as VMD module, heat exchanger, heater, storage tank, pump, flow meter, micro filter. The experimental conditions to evaluate VMD module were salt concentration, temperature, flow rate of feed sea water. Salt concentration of feed water were used by aqueous NaCl solutions of 25g/l, 35g/l and 45g/l concentration. As a result, increase in permeate flux of VMD module is due to the increasing feed water temperature and feed water flow rate. Also, decrease in permeate flux of VMD module is due to increasing salinity of feed water. VMD module required about 590 kWh/day of heating energy to produce $1m^3/day$ of fresh water.

The Kalina cycle simulation study was carried out for a preliminary design of a geothermal power generation system. The Kalina cycle system can be used for the utilization of a low-temperature heat sources such as geothermal and industrial waste heat that are not hot enough to produce steam. The sea/river water can be considered as a cooling media. A steady-state simulation model was developed to analyze and optimize its performance. The model contains a turbine, a pump, an expansion valve and heat exchangers. The turbine and pump were modelled by an isentropic efficiency, while a condenser, an evaporator and a regenerative heat exchanger were modeled by UA-LMTD method with a counter-flow assumption. The simulation results show that the power generation efficiency over 10% is expected when a heat source and sink inlet temperatures are $100^{\circ}C$ and $10^{\circ}C$ respectively.
Use of heat from seawater could be different from the weather conditions of a coastal city and seawater temperatures near the city. It will be a good option to use surface layer water with Heat Pump system for using seawater cooling/heating in Jeju. The study investigates the proper depth for seawater heat gain of Jeju area in Korea. Sampling points are 0, 10, 20, 30m from the surface of the Sea. Seawater temperature does not change significantly according to the depth in winter, while the temperature is quite different according to the depth in summer. In this study, it is analyzed to compare existing system and seawater heat source system for target buildings on Jeju. And this systems are calculated a initial cost.

The monthly inventory of dissolved inorganic carbon (CT) and its fluxes were simulated using a box-model for the southeastern Yellow Sea, bordering the northern East China Sea. The monthly CT data was constructed by combining the observed data representing four seasons with the data adopted from the recent publications. A 2-box-model of the surface and deep layers was used, assuming that the annual CT inventory was at the steady state and its fluctuations due to the advection in the surface box were negligible. Results of the simulation point out that the monthly CT inventory variation between the surface and deep box was driven primarily by the mixing flux due to the variation of the mixed layer depth, on the scale of -40~35 mol C m-2 month-1. The air to sea CO2 flux was about 2 mol C m-2 yr-1 and was lower than 1/100 of the mixing flux. The biological pump flux estimated magnitude, in the range of 4-5 mol C m-2 yr-1, is about half the in situ measurement value reported. The CT inventory of the water column was maximum in April, when mixing by cooling ceases, and decreases slightly throughout the stratified period. Therefore, the total CT inventory is larger in the stratified period than that of the mixing period. In order to maintain a steady state, 18 mol C m-2 yr-1 (= 216 g C m-2 yr-1), the difference between the maximum and minimum monthly CT inventory, should be transported out to the East China Sea. Extrapolating this flux over the entire southern Yellow Sea boundary yields 4 × 109 g C yr-1. Conceptually this flux is equivalent to the proposed continental shelf pump. Since this flux must go through the vast shelf area of the East China Sea before it joins the open Pacific waters the actual contribution as a continental shelf pump would be significantly lower than reported value. Although errors accompanied the simple box model simulation imposed by the paucity of data and assumptions are considerably large, nevertheless it was possible to constrain the relative contribution among the major fluxes and their range that caused the CT inventory variations, and was able to suggest recommendations for the future studies.

Heat pump systems based on ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) systems use the temperature difference between deep ocean water and surface ocean water to operate. However, they may have heat transfer degradation due to corrosion on the heat exchanger surface due to the salinity of sea water. This study presents experimental results for the heat transfer decrease of corroded metal tubes with respect to corrosion time. In order to replace high-priced titanium, electro-deposition (ED) coating was performed on aluminum tubes. Aluminum tubes with ED coating thicknesses of 10, 15, and $20{\mu}m$ were tested for double-tube heat exchangers after performing accelerated corrosion for 6, 12, and 18 weeks. The effects of the coating thickness and the corrosion time on the heat transfer degradation were investigated. From the results, the aluminum tube with an ED coating of $20{\mu}m$ thickness can be suggested as a candidate for replacing titanium tubes.

After drilling operations at the offshore plant, crude oil is producted under high pressure. After that time, oil recovery is reduced, because the pressure of the pipe inside is low during the secondary produce. At that time injection sea water at the pipe inside through water injection pump that the device increase to recovery. A variety of mathematical analysis during the detailed design analysis was not made through the dynamics characteristic at the domestic company. 2D model has reliability of analysis results for the uncomplicated model. Also element and the node the number of significantly less than in the 3D model. So, the temporal part is very effective. In addition, depending on the quality of mesh 3D is a real model and FEM model occurs error. So, user needs a lot of skill. In this paper, a 2D finite element analysis was performed through the dynamics analysis and the study model was validated.
The biological pump is one of the important pumping mechanisms absorbing CO$_2$ from the atmosphere into the ocean and can be quantified by estimating new production. New production in the open ocean mostly depends on the supply of nitrate from the water below the mixed layer. While nitrate is affected by many biological processes, the helium isotope ($^3$He) is inert and has very simple physical properties. Using the $^3$He flux and the relation between $^3$He and NO${_3}\;{^-}$- within the thermocline, the nitrate flux supporting new production was estimated in the southern East Sea. The average ${\delta}^3$He within the mixed layer was -14$%_o$ and -l5.4$%_o$ in the winter and autumn, respectively. Through the year excess $^3$He occurs in the mixed layer except for a slight depletion of -17$%_o$ in summer. The $^3$He flux of 13$%_o$md$^{-1}$ associated with the concentration gradient at the air-sea interface was calculated from the product of the piston velocity and the excess $^3$He. Tritium decay within the mixed layer could support only 2$%_o$md$^{-1}$ of the flux. Thus, the remaining 11$%_o$md^{-1}$ could be attributed to the flux of tritiugenic $^3$He from the water below the mixed layer. Nitrate and $^3$He were positively correlated within the thermocline layer with the slope of 0.21 ${\mu}$mol kg$^{-1}$$%_o\;^{-1}$. The annual nitrate flux estimated from the upward flux of $^3$He and the NO$_{3}\;{^-}$-$^3$He relation was 0.8${\pm}$0.2 mol(N) m$^{-2}$yr$^{-1}$. This flux corresponds to an annual new production of 64 g(C) m$^{-2}$yr$^{-1}$, which is consistent with that in the north-west Pacific.

The model used in this study was reversed to analyze the cause of excessive damage that occurred inside the rotating system and pipe system of a centrifugal-type seawater pump on a ship. For this purpose, internal flow analysis on a cooling seawater pump was performed using CFD. As a result, the shape and boundary conditions of the target pump were set by reverse engineering, and pump efficiency at a design operating point of $125m^3/h$ was calculated as 85.3 % with a head of 32.0 m. The maximum efficiency point of the target pump was estimated to be 86.2 % at $150m^3/h$, but this differed from the actual operating point. At $112.5m^3/h$, which was the lowest flow point, flow was unstable due to the characteristics of the low flow point and analysis convergence was not good. The purpose of this study was to clarify the cause of ongoing cavitation in seawater pumps and piping systems in operation. Future research will be needed to clarify causes for pipe systems in the future by performing calculations for the total piping system of an inlet and outlet, in addition to measuring the flow rate of each branch pipe.
