  • In order to construct extremely large scale of sea dike like Saemanguem dike, extremely large amount of mass of rock are needed. In this case, it is general methods to estimate required amount of rock mass based on characteristics of consolidation settlement and bearing capacity of seabed, because it is impossible to estimate exact amount of rock material based on varied seabed condition.. Even in this general methods, it is very few case to manage rock mass amount by estimation of actual input rock mass but the main point is focused on the final section formation considering of designed section and reserve embankment, so excessive or underestimating result of rock mass would be occurred surely. This general methods is not resonable in the points of economic and stable. In this study, optimum construction management method of rubble mound in the 3rd section construction of Saemanguem sea dike is suggested based on comparing required rock mass estimating from consolidation settlement theory with actual input rock mass. It is found out that the optimum input quantity of rock mass is about $1,900{\sim}2,000m^3$/day.

  • Saemangeum coastal area is being constructed the 33km sea dike and 40,000ha reclamation area. The purpose of this study is to find the residual circulations in spring before and after the dike construction by a robust diagnostic and prognostic numerical model. Heat flux at the sea surface in May was adopted on the basis of the daily inflow of solar radiation at the earth surface, assuming an average atmospheric transmission and no clouds, as a function of latitude and time of year(George L.P.,J. E. William,1990). The discharge from the Geum, the Mankyung and the Dongjin rivers was adopted on the basis of experience formula of river flow in May(The M. of C.,Korea, 1993). Water temperature and salinity along the open boundaries are obtained from the results of field observations. The results of spring of the residual flow in the Saemangeum coastal area by a prognostic numerical model lead to the following conclusions: Water temperature in spring is the highest, salinity is the lowest and density is the lowest at the upper layer near the coast after the dike construction. The flow pattern at the upper layer during spring is anti-clockwise circulation between Wi and Shinsi islands. The flow pattern at the lower layer is clockwise circulation between Wi and Shinsi islands.

  • The water line moving on the intertidal flat during a flood indicates depth contours between low and high water lines. The water lines extracted from the consecutive images are rectified to get the ground coordinates of each depth contour and integrated to provide three dimensional information of Intertidal flat topography. The tidal flat outside Saemankeum-1 sea dike shows the most obvious changes of tidal flat topography after the construction of sea dikes. This tidal flat topography was observed using digital camera images, and the calculated depths were very similar to in-situ measurement data. Topography changes obtained from two different period data were also examined.
