Advancing health screening and treatment of cancer techniques, they contribute to grow the probability of survival of cancer patients for a long time. So health behavior and quality of life of the patients are getting important. This study analysed correlation between healthy person and cancer patient's EQ-5D index, social demographic characteristics, health behavior and so on by the multiple regression analysis. The result was that EQ-5D index of cancer patients is lower than healthy persons. Patients of cervical cancer and lung cancer had very low the index especially. In conclusion, cancer have a bad influence on the quality of life. For cancer patients, smoking and drinking are a major factors of correlation. The number of non-smokers among the patients is lower than the number of smokers among healthy persons. This conclusion means that the importance of health behaviors and quality of life for cancer patients is established so that this will be used for basic reference of PHR models and service enhancing quality of life.

In this study, we have screened $Eu^{3+}$- and $Tb^{3+}$-activated candidate phosphors for PDP in the sys-tems of CaO-Gd$_2$O$_3$-Al$_2$O$_3$ by combinatorial chemistry and investigated the synthetic temperature, optimum com-position and luminescent properties about the candidate phosphors. To construct the emission intensity library by VUV PL, we have synthesized 210 different compositional samples using a polymerized-complex method. Good luminescent samples were identified by X-ray diffraction method. $Ca_$\alpha$$G$d_{0.95-$\alpha$-$\beta$}Al_$\beta$O_$\delta$$ : Eu(0.02< $\alpha$+$\beta$ <0.04) phos-phors screened as a red phosphor have good color purity than commercial phosphor. In the candidate phosphors of CaGdAl$_3O_7$ : Tb, Ca$Al_{12}O_{19}$ : Tb, Gd$_4$Al$_2O_9$ : Tb, and Gd$_3Al_5O_{12}$ : Tb CaGdAl$_3O_7$ : Tb, and Ca$Al_{12}O_{19}$ : Tb have shorter decay time than commercial phosphor.
This study was conducted to investigate the optimum condition of extraction from fronds of Osmunda japonica to increase antioxidant compounds and antioxidant activity. Powder (1 g) of lyophilized fronds were mixed with three different solvents (MeOH, 80% EtOH and water). Extraction was carried out using not only by immersion (room temp.), heating ($60^{\circ}C$) and stirring (200 rpm) for 6 h, but also by sonication in 42 kHz ultrasonic bath for 15, 30 and 45 min. Extracts were filtered, and adjusted up to 50 mL to determine contents of soluble solids, total polyphenols and total flavonoids. Antioxidant capacity was measured by radical scavenging activity of 0.15 mM DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) and 7.4 mM ABTS [2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)] radical. Among the solvents, MeOH and 80% EtOH appeared to be effective for extraction. Extract obtained from sonication in MeOH for 15 min resulted high polyphenol contents (45.15 $mg{\cdot}g^{-1}$ db) and DPPH radical scavenging activity ($RC_{50}$= 0.35 $mg{\cdot}mL^{-1}$). The highest flavonoid contents was obtained from immersion or heating extraction with MeOH (38.10~38.10 $mg{\cdot}g^{-1}$ db). ABTS radical scavenging was high in same extraction with 80% EtOH ($RC_{50}$= 0.21~0.22 $mg{\cdot}mL^{-1}$). Altogether, our results indicate that the extraction using ultrasonic bath with MeOH as a solvent (for 15~30 minutes) was the most effective way not only for increasing various antioxidant activities but also for saving labor and time in case of fronds of Osmunda japonica.

Experimental animals have been used to biological and medical purposes and the animals must be, for these purposes, healthy and clean to microbial infection. However, the animals can be easily exposed to pathogenic microorganism via several routes. Of the routes, environmental conditions are the most important factors to keep the animals healthy and clean, especially air condition. Monitoring of air-condition has been required to keep the animal healthy and clean. However, any guideline is not available for experimental conditions with pigs. Therefore, the sampling times and points were compared in different conditions to establish an optimal protocol for monitoring of air borne bacteria. Tryptic soy agar(TSA), blood agar containing 5% defibrinated sheep blood and Sabraud dextrose agar(SDA) were used as media to capture total bacteria, pathogenic bacteria and fungi, respectively. Two methods, compulsive capture using an air-sampler and capturing fall-down bacteria were used to capture the microorganisms in the air. The points and time of capturing were different at each experiment. Air borne microorganisms were captured at three and five points in the open and closed equipments, respectively. Air was collected using an air-sampler for 1 min and 5 min and the agar plates as open status were left from 30 min to 2hr. At first, we monitored an experimental laboratory which dealt with several pathogenic bacteria and then, a protocol obtained from the investigation was applied to open or close experimental conditions with pigs. Number of bacteria was high from 10:00 to 15:00, especially on 13:30-15:30 but sharply decreased after 17:00. The tendency of the number of bacteria was similar between two methods even though the absolute number was higher with air sampler. Critical difference in the number of cells was observed at 5 min with air sampler and 2 hr with fall-down capturing method. However, 1 min with air sampler and 1 hr with fall-down capturing were the best condition to identify bacterial species collected from the air. Number of bacteria were different depending on the sampling points in closed condition but not in opened condition. Based on our results, a guide-line was suggested for screening air-borne microorganism in the experimental conditions with pigs.

It has been reported that not only collagen but also elastin contribute to inhibit skin wrinkle formation. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation induces photo-aging on human skin. Because UV radiation increases elastase activity, it is thought that increased elastase activity could be the major reason for skin elasticity reduction and wrinkle formation by UV. In the present study to standardize elastase activity measuring system, purified elastases from porcine pancrease and human neutrophil, and cell extracts of normal human primary fibroblasts, 3T3 mouse fibroblasts, and CCD-25Sk human fibroblasts were used as various enzyme sources. Furthermore, elastase activities were compared according to concentrations of enzyme and substrate and incubation time. Phosphoramidon was used as a positive control to inhibit elastase activities of normal human primary fibroblasts and CCD-25Sk fibroblasts. However, it had no influence on the activity of porcine pancreatic elastase. Therefore, it is suggested that elastase used for testing anti-wrinkle agents should be selected carefully.
Purpose: To identify baseline prognostic factors for survival in patients with disease progression, during or after chemotherapy for the treatment of advanced gastric or gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) cancer. Materials and Methods: We pooled data from patients randomized between 2009 and 2012 in 2 phase III, global double-blind studies of ramucirumab for the treatment of advanced gastric or GEJ adenocarcinoma following disease progression on first-line platinum- and/or fluoropyrimidine-containing therapy (REGARD and RAINBOW). Forty-one key baseline clinical and laboratory factors common in both studies were examined. Model building started with covariate screening using univariate Cox models (significance level=0.05). A stepwise multivariable Cox model identified the final prognostic factors (entry+exit significance level=0.01). Cox models were stratified by treatment and geographic region. The process was repeated to identify baseline prognostic quality of life (QoL) parameters. Results: Of 1,020 randomized patients, 953 (93%) patients without any missing covariates were included in the analysis. We identified 12 independent prognostic factors of poor survival: 1) peritoneal metastases; 2) Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance score 1; 3) the presence of a primary tumor; 4) time to progression since prior therapy <6 months; 5) poor/unknown tumor differentiation; abnormally low blood levels of 6) albumin, 7) sodium, and/or 8) lymphocytes; and abnormally high blood levels of 9) neutrophils, 10) aspartate aminotransferase (AST), 11) alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and/or 12) lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). Factors were used to devise a 4-tier prognostic index (median overall survival [OS] by risk [months]: high=3.4, moderate=6.4, medium=9.9, and low=14.5; Harrell's C-index=0.66; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.64-0.68). Addition of QoL to the model identified patient-reported appetite loss as an independent prognostic factor. Conclusions: The identified prognostic factors and the reported prognostic index may help clinical decision-making, patient stratification, and planning of future clinical studies.

Pheromones of several insect species were evaluated in a screening program in terms of their usefulness in pest forecasting and control in Korea. Species included striped rite borer (Chilo suppressalis) and tortricid moths, which attack deciduous fruit, and colding moth. The pheromone of striped rice borer was supplied through the courtesy of the Tropical Products Institute, London. Pheromones of other species were obtained from Cornell University and the Zoecon Corporation of Palo Alto, California. 'rho results of this experiment were as follows: 1. Live traps containing virgin striped rice borer female moths were more effective in attracting male moths than were the pheromone traps. 2. Since the effectiveness of the striped rice borer pheromone decreased dramatically with time, it was difficult to estimate the peak tine of the borer emergence. 3. The primary species trapped in deciduous fruit orchards was the oriental fruit moth, Grapholitha molesta. The traps were baited with the phermones, OFM and LAW. 4. Several moth species were trapped with OBLR. RBLR. SPAR and ArcM phermones but few were trapped with the remaining eight tortricid pheromones. 5. The following tortricid pheromones might be useful for forecasting the species given: OFM, LAW : Grapholitha molesta OBLR : Archips breviprecanus OBLH, RBLR, ArcM : Archippus coreensis Archips fuscocupreanus Hoshinoa longicellana SPAR, TBM ; Phyroderces sp.

The full-length heat shock protein 88 (HSP88) complementary DNA (cDNA) of Paecilomyces tenuipes Jocheon-1 was obtained by screening the Paecilomyces tenuipes (P. tenuipes) Jocheon-1 Uni-Zap cDNA library and performing 5' RACE polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The P. tenuipes Jocheon-1 HSP88 cDNA contained an open reading frame (ORF) of 2,139-basepair encoding 713 amino acid residues. The deduced amino acid sequence of the P. tenuipe s Jocheon-1 HSP88 cDNA showed 77% identity to Nectria haematococca HSP88 and 45-76% identity to other fungal homologous HSP88s. Phylogenetic analysis and BLAST program analysis confirmed that the deduced amino acid sequences of the P. tenuipes Jocheon-1 HSP88 gene belonged to the ascomycetes group within the fungal clade. The P. tenuipes Jocheon-1 HSP88 also contained the conserved ATPase domain at the N-terminal region. The cDNA encoding P. tenuipes Jocheon-1 HSP88 was expressed as an 88 kilodalton (kDa) polypeptide in baculovirus-infected insect Sf9 cells. Under higher temperature conditions for the growth of the entomopathogenic fungus, mRNA expression of P. tenuipes Jocheon-1 HSP88 was quantified by real time PCR (qPCR). The results showed that heat shock stress induced a higher level of mRNA expression compared to normal growth conditions.

The purpose of this study was to develop a practical caries activity test by fluorescence using laser, plasma light and halogen light. The subjects of study were 45 children of 7-8 years old Argon laser, plasma light and halogen light were irradiated to buccal or labial surface of all teeth. Fluorescence of initial carious lesion from teeth was observed through barrier filter and the number of teeth showing lesion was counted. Visual examination for the dDfFtT, mutans streptococci screening test and Lactobacilli colony counting were also done. Data analysis was accomplished by Axelsson's method. The result from the present study can be summarized as follows. 1. Laser, plasma light and halogen light could detect the initial carious lesions better than visual examination(p<0.05). 2. There was positive correlation between laser(r=0.42), plasma light(r=0.41), halogen light(r=0.39) and dBfFtT rate(p<0.01). 3. The specificity sensitivity and predictive value was showed highest value in laser, but was showed favorable value in plasma light and halogen light. In regard to above results, laser, plasma light and halogen light all considered to be reliable method for determining individual caries activity. And they were also considered to be practical method because it would be simple, inexpensive, and time saving method.
The chronic cholestasis induce to biliary liver fibrosis (cirrhosis) and the increased products of ROS(reactive oxygen species) cause to the liver damage. In this study ; the antioxidant and antifibrotic effect of dried extracts of oriental medicine (DW) was investigated under the liver fibrotic (cirrhotic) condition. The female Sprague-Dawley rats were divided in 5 groups (Normal, Op-2, Op-4, OpDW-2, OpDW-4). Except for normal group, the rats were induced to biliary liver fibrosis (cirrhosis) by the operation of bile duct ligation/scission (BDU/S) and were observed in 2 weeks or 4 weeks. And the prepared DW was treated p.o.2 ml/day/rats in 2 weeks or 4 weeks for OpDW groups. At the time of sacrifice, the liver, kidney, spleen were weighed and the ratio of organ weight/body weight was calculated. The MDA, the hyp and biochemical parameters (GOT GTP, ALP, t-bili) were measured in sera and liver tissue of rats. The biochemical change was observed on liver tissue. In the result, the hepatomegaly and spleenomegaly appeared in all BDL/S operated rats, and significantly lower liver weight was observed in OpDW-4 group compared with in Op-4 group (p<0.05). The level of clinical parameters in sera of all liver fibrosis (cirrhosis) developed rats was higher than in normal group. Especial1y, the value of GOT in OpDW-2 group and ALP in OpDW-4 group showed significantly lower than in Op-2 group and Op-4 group (p<0.01, p<0.005). The content of hyp in all operation groups was significantly higher than in normal group (p<0.05∼<0.005), and showed significantly lower value in the OpDW-4 group than in Op-4 group (p<0.05). The product of lipid peroxidationUDA) increased significantly under the fibrotic(cirrhotic) condition (p<0.05∼ <0.005), and the MDA value in OpDW-4 group decreased significantly in Op-4 group (p<0.005). The histological change (bile duct proliferation, fibrosis, collagen bundle) was similarly observed in Op-2 group and in OpDW-2 group, but the weak fibrosis and bile duct proliferation were observed in OpDW-4 group compared with in Op-4 group. In conclusion, lipid peroxidation and severe liver damage were activated by bile duct obstruction, and the measurement of MDA and hap can be useful monitor for the screening of antioxidant and antifibrotic effect in experimental liver fibrosis (cirrhosis). The 4 weeks treatment with DW extracts suppressed lipid peroxidation and inhibited fibrotic (cirrhotic) process in BDL/S operated rats.
