We examined the imported Scolytidae and Platypodidae (Coleoptera) specimens preserved at Incheon Plant Quarantine Station. The twelve species of Scolytidae and six species of Platypodidae were recognized from imported logs at Incheon, Gunsan and Busan ports. One species, Hypothenemus hampei (Ferrari) of Scolytidae was identified from coffee bean. These species were not reported before from imported logs and seeds. Following four scolytid species were collected from Korea and described as new to science Polygraphus nobuchii sp. n., Scolytogenes puerarae sp. n., Dryocoetes carpinivorus sp. n., and Hypothenemus seoulensis sp. n.

Twenty two species including two unidentified species of Scolytidae (Coleoptera) attracted to the attractant trap were listed in this paper. Of listed beetles, two species, TryPodendron singnatum and Xyleborus defenslls were recorded to the fauna for the first time and described in Korean.

Beetles belonging to the families Scolytidae, Platypodidae, Bostrichidae, and Lyctidae intercepted from imported timbers at Busan port were investigated from March 1 to November 30 in 2000. In addition, hosts imported country were examined. A total of 52 species of within 23 genera was intercepted from nineteen species of timbers or logs from fifteen countries. In Scolytidae, 35 species of 16 genera in three subfamilies were identified 12 species in Xyleborus, 6 species in Ips, 3 species in Trypodendron, 2 species in Arixyleborus, and 12 species of all different genera including Alinphagous. Scolytidae were intercepted from 16 species of timbers in 13 genera imported from 11 countries. The highest beetles were intercepted from Malaysian lauan. In Platypodidae, 9 species of one genus (Platypus) were intercepted from 6 species of timbers in 4 genera imported from 6 countries including Australia. The highest numbers were intercepted from Malysian lauan. In Bostrychidae, 5 species of 4 genera in two subfamilies were intercepted from 6 species of timbers in 4 genera imported from four countries. In Lyctidae, Trogoxylon sp., Minthea sp., and Minthea rugicollis were intercepted from 3 species of timbers in 2 genera imported from 3 countries.

과수 및 원예식물을 가해하는 나무좀류를 확인하기 위해 1980-82년간 기주식물별로 분포상태를 조사하였으며 동정된 6종, 미동정 1종을 정리하였고 이들중 Cryphalus malus Nijima, Hypothenemus eruditus Westwood와 Xylesandrus borealis Nobuchi 등 3종은 우리나라 미기록종이었다.

To inverstigate the boring insects in Pinus densiflora forests, bait logs were set up in healthy-looking forests of Chunchon Hongchon and in damaged forests(gall formation rate 70----) by Thecodiplosis japonensis of Pyongchang Jeongsun. The period of investigation was from April to August in 1999. Boring insects investigated were 35 species of 12 families. Five species of them were unrecorded species from Korea. Natural enemies investigated were 5 species of 2 families. The prefered parts of tree according to species of boring insects were lower trunk in Siphalinus gigas and 3 other species, middle-stem in Monochamus sutor and 7 other species, and top stem in Orthotomicus suturalis and 1 other species. Hylurgops interstitialis were found in all parts of tree. Sap wood was attacked by Xyleborus validus Cerambycidae, heart wood by Hylobitelus haroldi Siphalinus gigas, and cambium region by Pissodes nitidus P. obscurus Shirahoshizo insidiosus Scolytidae.

Five species, Hypothenemus californicus, Coccotrypes carpophagus, Othotomicus angulatus, Tomicus brevipilosus and Xyleborus seriatus were recognized firstly from Korea. Two species of them, H. californicus and C. carpophagus were preserved at Life Science Museum of Brigham Young university in U.S.A. X. seriatus intercepted at Kobe in Japan from imported yew log which had shipped at Nampo in North Korea was sent by Dr. F. G. Browne in England. Thirteen recorded species were also examined in this study.

The genus Blacus Nees is cosmopolitan genus of the subfamily Blacinae. The members of genus Blacus endoparasites of colepterous larvae: Staphylinidae, Nitidulidae, Cryptophagidae, Scolytidae, Anobiidae, Curculionidae and Melyridae. Previously, 13 Korean species of the genus have been investigated by several researchers. In this study, eight species of the genus Blacus are reported for the first time from Korea: Blacus apaches Achterberg, B. chabarovi Belokobylskij, B. compressus Belokobylskij, B. fischeri Haeselbarth, B. interstitialis Ruthe, B. mamillanus Ruthe, B. robustus Haeselbarth, and B. ussuriensis Belokobylskij. Diagnosis and host records are given for each species.
