In this study, the effects of writing a weekly report on the students' self-directed learning, the attitudes toward science, and the academic achievements were examined. Two hundred and three students, second graders of a high school participated. Experimental group performed writing a weekly report, while the comparative group performed regular science lessons. The results of this study are as follows: First, MSLQ test showed that there was statistically significant difference in the self-directed learning skills(p<.05). For sub-factors of motivation region, such as internal goals, extrinsic goals, learning beliefs, task value, and self-efficacy and for sub-factors of learning strategy region, such as meta-cognition, peer learning, time management, critical thinking, and demonstrations showed statistically significant results. Second, TOSRA test showed that there was no statistically significant difference in the attitudes toward science (p>.05). However, for sub-factors, such as scientific inquiry and joy to science class showed statistically significant results. Third, there was no statistically significant difference in the academic achievement in Chemistry I class (p>.05). However, top and low achievement level showed statistically significant results.
This study was done for the purpose of analyzing the job-satisfaction and its depressive factors in human relation of operating room nurses of university hospital. Therfore, it makes an offer the basic data to help the resolution and prevention of the problems in operating room nurses. Furthermore, this study was conducted in order to find out some kinds of scientific data for the better control of depressive factors of job-satisfaction expressed by the operating room nurses. The structred questionaire reports of 246 operating room nurses who were employed in 5 different university hospitals which have over 1, 000 beds located in Seoul, Korea were used, which wer collected from August 24th to August 30th of 1992. The author visited supervisors of operating room in each university hospital and explained the aim of this study. The most of them(90.0%) answered to the questionaires. Analysis of the collected data were done by mean, standard deviation, percentage, t-test, F-test, Q-test, correlation analysis, one-way ANOVA.and stepwise multiple regression analysis. Major findings of this study were as follows: 1. The job of the operating room nurses were remarkably related with the satisfaction in human relation, which was defined as the behavioral job with thoughtful action rather than with mechanical action. However, the degree of satisfaction in human relation with personnel in other departments was found to be the lowest and its the main depressive factors were appeared due to the absence of interaction and uncooperative attitudes. Therefore, it was required that the members of other job need more cooperative attitude to the actual works in the operating room nurses. 2. The depressive factors in the satisfaction degree of human relation with offical seniors wer significantly related with their irresponsibility and partialness. Moreover, the job attitude of the operating room nurses is abundantly required to be improved, 3. The depressive factors in the satisfaction of human relation with medical doctors were significantly related with their insincerity and the class-consciousness. It is clearly suggested that the medical doctors do more cooperative behaviors for the jobs of the operating room without the suggested that the medical doctors do more cooperative behaviors for the jobs of the operating room without the superiority feeling of class-consciousness. 4. There was a significantly positive association between the satisfaction degree of human relation of the nurses with the following charateristics. (1) The registered nurses which had a tendency to be satisfied about the registered nurses' job. (2) The registered nurses which had a tendency to be a technique-aptitued in the motivation of the registered nurses'job. (3) The registered nurses which had a tendency to be satisfied about the total hospital working carrier and the aspects of old ages. Finally, these findings indicated that the operating room nurses should require the professional education courses associated with a high-development techniques and setisfaction in their jobs.
There has been an amounting interest and subjects in gifted education in recent years as a number of studies dealt with the development of gifted education programs. However, earth science area remained as a low profile in developing educational programs and materials that meet the varying curiosities and needs of gifted students with a focus on their characteristic development. This study developed a small group-based active-cooperative learning program in middle school to investigate the effects of the program in terms of the creative problem solving ability in science and learning attitude of the gifted students. Then the study examined the conceptions of the students after the implementation of the small group-based active-cooperative learning program. Findings of the study showed that there was a significant increase in participated gifted students' creative problem solving skills and their learning attitude. In addition, the small group-based active-cooperative learning program apparently increased the participants' interests, satisfaction, and participation toward the instruction, and significantly influenced their affective domain. It implies that these findings were not caused by the lectures from the teachers, but by the variety of activities in which the gifted students discussed and debated with the classmates to derive a positive reciprocal action. In conclusion, a small group-based active-cooperative learning program promoted a reciprocal action among all the students who participated in a small group by sharing their opinions and respecting each other.

This study is to develope the performance scoring rubrics for the inquiry-based experiments of general chemistry course in the college of education. Two types of analytic scoring rubrics have been developed for nine different experiments. The first one is to assess scientific process skills from the written experimental reports. These analytic scoring rubrics include seven process skills selected from the Lawson's 'creative and critical thinking skills' and other known process skills. The second one is to assess the individual manipulative skills and experimental attitudes through direct observations by the teacher. The content validity of all scoring rubrics was testified by six science educators. Also the inter-scorer reliability of analytic scoring rubrics administered on the students' experimental reports was examined. The correlation coefficient between the scores obtained from the experiments and those of the written test for theoretical knowledges was found to be r=.663(p <.01). From the variance($r^2$=.440), we would say indirectly that the 56% of this experimental assessment does not overlap with the theoretical knowledges test and assesses students' science process skills, manipulative skills, and attitudes.
This study was to investigate the changes of attitudes related to science of students in high school science club through modified the creative-experience activity model program. To begin with, using the creative-experience activity model program the programs adapted to the school practices have been developed through consultation of the teachers. The developed program was performed on students in the high school science club. Then we studied the changes of attitudes related to science of students through their outcomes of the activities and face-to-face talk. The change of attitudes related to science of students is positive, especially problem-solving, curiosity, a sense of responsibility, interests toward science, interests toward science related careers, and leisure interest in science. Interest for science as hobby were influenced by used tools like telescopes and experimental tools. Interest for science class were not effective to change to positive by creative experience activity. It seems to be due to creative experience activity were not connected with science class. The program to participate in the activities was more effective than to observe with visit for the change of the attitude related to science. Also, the programs with activities contained scientific knowledge were more effective.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the educational effects of an animation materials developed with the macroscopic particle moving sight. The 11 animations developed by the researchers showed the movements of molecules, ions, and electrons. The materials were developed for teachers to use when they taught "electrochemical cell' unit. The subjects were 151 students of 9th grade who were divided into the experimental and control group and were taught during 16 hours. In order to figure out the characteristics of each student before the instructions, a short-version GALT(Group Assessment of Logical Thinking) and the pretest of conceptions were carried out. After the instructions, students tested 3 types of exam; the posttest of conceptions, attitude test connected with science, cognition test. After 4 months later, students tested the posttest of conceptions agin for long-term memory effect. It was found that the exper-imental group using the developed animation materials had significantly higher scores of conceptual understanding than control group. The experimental group had also significantly higher scores of the long-term memory test and attitude test than control group. The results mean that animation materials which shows the macroscopic particle movement help stu-dents to understand scientific concepts and to elevate interests.
This study was carried out to compare the meal management attitudes among the mothers(41 years of age) who had middle school students between in industrial complex and in non-industrial complex. The subjects of each group were composed of 192 mothers Living in Ansan city in Korea, and this study was performed by self-administered questionnaire. The results of the present study were as follows: (1) Monthly family income and education level of parents were lower in industrial complex-family(ICF) than in non-industrial complex-family (NICF). The mean age of mothers and family size were similar in two groups, but the frequency of mothers employed was higher in ICF than in NICF Most mothers in ICF worked as a manual- or skilled-laborer. (2) The mothers in ICF tended to have less positive attitude in sewing balanced meals to their families than those in NICF. The score of nutritional knowledge was lower in mothers in ICF than those in NICF. (3) The percentage of expense for purchasing staple foods to total expense of foods tended to be higher in ICF than in NICF. Engel's coefficient was higher, and the frequency and expense for eating out was lower in ICF than in NICF (4) The mothers in ICF did not try to use their time and energy efficiently for meal management. (5) The mothers in ICF were less active in sewing the pleasurable meals including the provision of various cooking methods, flavors, and temperatures, to their families, than those in NICF. Above findings show that family environment such as industrial complex-families and non-industrial complex-families influences the meal management attitudes of mothers. The mothers in ICF had a less positive altitudes for scientific meal managements than those in NICF even though they had the limited resources including money, time and energy for meal management because most mothers in ICF had a job that were paid low salary and finished irregularly or late. Therefore, these results underscore the need to provide the sound nutritional education for the mothers in ICF with respect to reasonable meal management for 'optimal nutrition of family'. In addition, the government should try to make the various welfare policies to improve nutritional status of low income famines including the poor industrial complex-families.

In this study, the views and the meaning of nature between the Western world and East Asia were compared through literature analysis. In the West, it is recognized that nature and human beings are separate. Nature is understood as regular and rational. They, therefore, take the view of particle and mechanical theory. In East Asia, it is thought that nature and humans interact with each other, and take an attitude of compromise and tolerance. Since nature is recognized as an ever-changing being, they, therefore, take the position of wave theory. Scientific knowledge and concepts are accepted depending on the personal view of nature. In Korea, science education follows the view of modern western science without considering the personal pattern of cognition, though students can have various views of nature. The attitude is needed regarding the various viewpoints as rich resources in science and science education.

This study aimed to identify the problems of college students in reading the literature and on the basis of the identified problems, to suggest the approaches to solve the problems. To this end, time required for reading passages, reading patterns, understanding, memory and reading habits and attitudes were analyzed with the freshmen in A university. In accordance with the analysis results, 58% of subjects was good and 42% was not sufficient on the basis of the averages in Scholastic Aptitude Test. Second, 77% of subjects had the good patterns but 23% showed certain problems in reading patterns. Third, 69% and 67% of subjects illustrated good results in the analysis on understanding and memory, respectively. However, 31% and 33% were evaluated as being on the general level or requiring efforts in the analysis on understanding and memory, respectively. Next, according to the analysis on reading habits and attitudes, 77% had no problems but 23% required improvement. For solving the problems identified through the analysis, it is recommended to develop the scientific and standardized evaluation tools for evaluating the reading ability of college students. Second, it is necessary to evaluate the reading ability, habit and attitude during the screening process for admission or after admission. Finally, it is required to operate the Fundamental Academic Ability Learning Center(tentative name) to improve the ability of students who show the insufficient results in evaluation.

This study investigates the effect of SSI debate on first-year high school student's opinions about environmental issue, their judgment grounds, and solutions to regional environmental problems. The SSI debate was about white heron habitats near the village where students live. As the main data of the study, environmental perception questionnaires, and students' workbook including open-ended questions were collected before and after class. The environmental perception questionnaire was analyzed by descriptive statistics, and the response of the open-ended questions was analyzed through inductive qualitative research methods. First, the results of this study shows that the SSI debate has a statistically significant impact on students' environmental attitude. Second, a majority of students agreed on the idea that villagers should drive the birds out of town and they did not change their after the discussion class. However, after the discussion class, students' solutions about the issue were changed in a way that more short-term, feasible, concrete, and less time-consuming solutions to the problem. Based on the results of this study, this study implies that SSI issue debate using local problem should be used more often in science classroom so the students recognize local SSI and improve real world problem solving skills.
