The Moderating Effect of Peer Attachment on the Relationship between School Violence Victimization and Cyber Violence Victimization in Children (아동의 학교폭력 피해경험이 사이버폭력 피해경험에 미치는 영향에서 또래애착의 조절효과 검증)

  • Background: The purpose of this study is to investigate whether peer attachment serves as a positive emotional resource for children who have experienced school violence and cyber violence victimization. In addition, we aim to present alternative programs to reduce school violence and promote positive peer attachment among children. Design: We utilized data from the 13th year(2020) of the Panel Study on Korean Children for this study. Methods: The survey was conducted through a questionnaire administered by surveyors, and the total number of cases was 1,357. Results: First, the effects of school violence and cyber violence victimization experiences were confirmed. Second, it can be inferred that children with isolation in peer relationships may ultimately be more vulnerable to cyber violence victimization, as their interactions in cyberspace may also be undermined, highlighting the potential impact of social relationships on cyber violence victimization. Third, it can be observed that children with high levels of peer attachment are emotionally stable, even when exposed to school violence and cyberviolence victimization, which may enable them to regulate the degree of victimization they experience. Conclusion: School violence experience and cyber violence experience interact with each other, and in this relationship, positive peer attachment is a positive resource. Therefore, it emphasizes the importance of the relationship between friends in preventing and overcoming school violence and provides suggestions for solutions based on this understanding.

  • In this study, As youth school violence is emerging as a serious social problem, this study needs to actively respond to school violence to prevent and reduce the proportion of secondary cyber violence by examining previous studies related to school violence. By recognizing problems through comparative analysis of the recent status and characteristics of school violence according to changes in the educational environment after COVID-19, we intend to find the right direction for schools, families, and communities to cope with school violence. The analysis data is a psychology that takes into account the change in the educational environment caused by COVID-19 through the first survey of school violence in 2021 by the Ministry of Education. It is meaningful to suggest directions and alternatives to prevent school violence and solve school violence problems by strengthening teachers' responsibility and improving their ability to cope efficiently.

Perceived Discrimination and Workplace Violence among School Health Teachers: Relationship with School Organizational Climate

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship of the school organizational climate with perceived discrimination and the workplace violence among school health teachers. Methods: The research design was a cross-sectional study. The subjects of the study were 350 school health teachers with more than one year of teaching experience. Data were collected online using a questionnaire. Research variables are general characteristics, organizational climate, perceived discrimination, and workplace violence. The relationship between organizational climate and perceived discrimination and the relationship between organizational climate and workplace violence were analyzed using regression analysis. Results: The score for organizational climate of health teachers was 3.10 out of 5 points, the score for perceived discrimination was 2.85 out of 5 points, and the experience rate of workplace violence was 16.9%. School organizational climate was related to both workplace violence and perceived discrimination. The subcomponents of organizational climate affecting perceived discrimination of health teachers were interrelationship and the level of compensation. The subcomponents of organizational climate affecting workplace violence of health teachers were interrelationship and autonomy. Conclusion: The improvement of the school's organizational climate can reduce the level of workplace violence and discrimination against health teachers. It is important to establish an appropriate evaluation system for health teachers and to recognize the role and expertise of health teachers. In addition, it is necessary for school administraters to actively support health teahcers and to create an organizational climate where they can be friendly and communicative.

The Research on the Cyber Dating Violence of Korean High School Students (청소년의 사이버 데이팅 폭력 및 관련요인에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of the research was to investigate the characteristics and related factors of cyber dating violence. The subjects were 548 adolescents in high schools. The gathered information was analyzed by frequency, percent, 1-test, ANOVA, and Correlation by using SPSS 10.0 program. The results were as follows: (1) $65.3{\%}$ of the answerers experienced cyber dating, and $44.5{\%}$ of the students have experienced cyber dating violence. (2) $40.3{\%}$ of the students were damaged by psychological violence, and $21.1{\%}$ of the students have caused psychological violence. (3) $41.9{\%}$ of the damaged students and $18{\%}$ of the perpetrating students were included in the total answerers, but among 244 experienced students, $94.3{\%}$ were damaged students and $40.6{\%}$ perpetrated sexual violence, so it is concluded that experienced students experience sexual violence. (4) Looking over the social demography factors and cyber dating violence, boys rather than girls, and vocational school students rather than academic school students have more cyber violence experiences. (5) The relationship between psychological and sexual violence has a significant relationship with all cyber violence experiences.

Development of a Violence Prevention Educational Program for Elementary School Children Using Empathy (VPEP-E)

  • Purpose: This study describes the development of a violence prevention educational program for elementary school children using empathy (VPEP-E) that teachers can use during class. Methods: Hoffman's theory of empathy and Seels and Richey's (1994) ADDIE model were applied to develop this program. Results: The developed program consisted of eight sessions: "Orientation/definition of violence and empathy", "Types and boundaries of violence", "Look into my feelings", "Say it with a facial expression", "Preventing non-empathic violence due to social prejudice", "Preventing physical violence", "Verbal and online violence prevention: empathic conversation", and "I can do well: review of the whole curriculum". The program was evaluated by 15 elementary school teachers, who considered it to be easily accessible to elementary school students. The final VPEP-E, which will be provided in eight times for 40 minutes each for fifth-grade students, will provide a basis for preventing violence by fostering empathy. Conclusion: We expect the developed educational program to be effective in preventing violence among elementary school students. However, further research involving children from various age groups is needed.

Empathy, Awareness and Attitudes toward Violence among Elementary School Students (초등학생의 공감 정도와 폭력에 대한 인식 및 태도)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate empathy, awareness, and attitudes toward violence among elementary school students. Methods: The participants were 195 fifth and sixth grade students in Y elementary school. The data collection period was from June 24 to July 4, 2019. Results: Empathy scores significantly differed according to participants' gender and need for education on violence prevention. Attitudes towards violence (permissive and neglectful) significantly differed according to students' grade and need for education on violence prevention. Empathy was negatively correlated with permissive attitudes toward violence (r=-.26, p<.001) and neglectful attitudes toward violence (r=-.24, p=.001). Conclusion: The results of this study are expected to be utilized as basic data for education on violence prevention through empathy.

  • This paper reviews the amend of the School Violence Act. The School Violence Act was introduced in 2004 and it has revised several times since then. However, the latest revision in 2019 was important and meaningful. The Act began to get a stance of educational approaches to school violences. It has more emphasized to deal with school violence in the perspective of educational approach. For example, the newly revised School Violence Act allows principles of schools to deal with school violence cases in a condition of minor violence cases when victim students and parents agree with. This is an impressive change. The School Violence Act is still on going change and it should be changed more educational perspectives to deal with school violences.

A Study on the Trend of the School Violence in Elementary schools (초등학생의 학교폭력 실태와 경향에 대한 연구)

  • This study aims at more exactly identifying current status and trend of the school violence in elementary schools. Many previous studies have addressed the issue with their own views and methodologies, and mostly ended up as one-time works without subsequent observation over years. From such respective studies, we could hardly figure out an integral and precise shape on the school violence in terms of fact and tendency. To my knowledge, this is the first time-lag design on the school violence which is conducted nation wide, where the same concepts and measures were applied to the population. The research conclusions are follows: (1) both offenders and victims of the school violence tend to increase, (2) compared 10 girls, boys have more experience of the school violence, and (3) both offenders and victims could be recruited from the same group.

A Study on the School Violence in the Elementary Schools in Korea (초등학생의 학교주변 폭력 피해에 관한 연구)

  • This paper tries to find out the prevalence of the school violence among the elementary school children and explores variables to explain the violence based on the various victimization theories including the life style theory. One out of ten respondents reported that they had at least one experience of victimization. Bullying was found out to be the most frequent type of the school violence. The school violence experience are shown to have no statistical significant relationship with the life style of respondents, the family background, and the academic achievements, but to have relatively high correlation to delinquency propensity. This may indicate that both offender and victim of the school violence could be recruited from the same group.

The Relationship among Domestic Violence, Self-Evaluation, and Teenagers' Deviation (가정폭력 노출경험, 자기평가, 그리고 청소년 비행 간의 관련성)

  • Background & Objectives: Recently, problems such as in-school violence of teenagers, gang fight, habitual drinking, smoking, running away from home and group isolation can be regarded as the most fundamental causes of teenagers' deviation. It is said that such fundamental causes are originated from their home, the base for the psychological and behavioral development. Methods: In this study, the data for 3,188 students studying in the 3rd grade at middle school, which have been obtained from the second year survey for the panel of the 2nd grade students in 2004 by to Korea Youth Panel Survey, have been used for the analysis of the study. Results: According to the result of the study, there seems to be no difference between two genders for differences of average values. Regarding the analysis of correlation coefficients between such related variables as domestic violence, self-control, self-worth, self-trust and family relationship (sociability), and teenagers' deviation, When variables increase, teenagers' deviation decreases. Regarding the relationship between domestic violence and teenagers' deviation, physical violence is more related than lingual violence. The relationship between self-control and teenagers' deviation is the highest. By studying the deviation of teenagers exposed to domestic violence and carrying out the regression analysis, physical violence influences, teenagers' deviation was greater. As self-control, self-worth and family relationship(sociability) increase, teenagers' deviation decreases. Regarding the analytic results of this study, the experience of domestic violence seems to influence teenagers' deviation greatly. Among various types of domestic violence, physical violence is analyzed to influence teenagers' deviation greatly. Self-control, self-worth and family relationship(sociability) increase, teenagers' deviation decreases. Conclusions: In order to prevent teenagers' deviation and decrease the second conviction rate, it is necessary to provide a method of decreasing the domestic violence. It is necessary for schools and local communities to provide social support for teenagers.
