  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of major satisfaction, self-esteem and nursing professionalism on college (life) adjustment in nursing students. Methods: Data were collected using structured questionnaires from 179 nursing students at a university located in Seoul. The collected data were analyzed through the mean and standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 27.0. Results: As a result, the average major satisfaction was 4.08 out of 5, the average self-esteem was 3.02 out of 4, the average nursing professionalism was 3.87 out of 5, and college life adjustment was 3.77 out of 5. Major satisfaction, self-esteem, and nursing professionalism were statistically correlated with college life adjustment. Self-esteem (β=.33, p<.001), major satisfaction (β=.24, p=.003), and major satisfaction at the time of admission (β=.22, p=.002) had a significant effect on college life adjustment. These factors explained 47.7% of college life adjustment (F=24.22, p<.001). Conclusion: The findings suggest there is a need to develop an educational program for nursing students to improve their self-esteem and major satisfaction.

  • This study utilized latent growth curve modeling to investigate the trajectories of adolescent life satisfaction changes in middle and high school students. The effects of self-esteem, career identity, school learning activity, gender, and household earnings on life satisfaction changes were examined. Data was obtained from the Korea Child Youth Panel Survey (KYCPS), a longitudinal study following students for 7 years. Year 3-6 data was utilized. Results found that the life satisfaction trajectory resulted as a quadratic model in which individual differences were significant. Second, school learning activity used as a time variant variable had a positive significant effect on life satisfaction each year. Third, gender and self-esteem as time invariant variables had significant effects on initial levels while self-esteem had effects on the slope and quadratic change. Further implications and research issues are discussed.

  • This study examined the mediation effect of life satisfaction between aggression and loneliness. The subjects were two hundred and eighty fifth-year elementary school and second-year middle school adolescents in Seoul. Data were analyzed by using the t-test, Pearson's correlation and regression. Major findings were as follows: First, when it comes to aggressiveness, the fifth graders showed a significantly higher degree of personal attack, whereas the eighth graders were found to show more expression of anger. The fifth graders scored higher than the eighth graders in each subcategory of life satisfaction. No significant difference was found in the category of loneliness. Second, the fifth graders showed a positive relationship among verbal attack, personal attach, expression of anger and loneliness, whereas the eighth graders showed a positive relationship between expression of anger and loneliness. The two age groups, in turn, also exhibited some differences in the relationship between loneliness and life satisfaction. Third, we found that life satisfaction is a complete parameter between aggressiveness and loneliness in the fifth graders. In the case of the eighth graders, life satisfaction turned out to be a partial parameter between aggressiveness and loneliness. This perhaps indicates that adolescents with similar levels of aggressiveness might show different degrees of loneliness, depending on whether they have positive attitudes toward their lives and whether they feel satisfied with their lives.

  • This study analyzed the factors influencing the satisfaction of school students in Covid-19. The subjects of the study were surveyed in all 5th-6th grade of elementary school students, 1st-3rd grade of middle school, and 1st and 2nd grade of high school students in G metropolitan city. A total of 13,672 students participated in the survey, of which 13,613 were used for final data analysis. A hierarchical regression analysis of factors affecting students' life satisfaction showed that 22.2% of school life factors, 4.7% of home life factors, and 10.7% of daily stressors. The most influential factor in Covid-19 was home life satisfaction. Next was appearance stress for elementary school students and academic stress for middle and high school students. This can be seen as a result of Covid-19, which increased non-face-to-face classes and increased time for students to spend at home, which led to a greater impact on students' satisfaction in life. Nevertheless, middle and high school students can still see that academic stress has a significant impact on life satisfaction. Through this, it is necessary to support students to facilitate relationships, communication, studies, and leisure at home in the context of Corona 19. Especially, various educational policies must be accompanied so that the educational gap due to non-face-to-face classes does not deepen depending on the family environment.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the factors that influence school life satisfaction based on personal variables, self-esteem, interpersonal relationships, and perception of the educational environment at a medical school in Korea. The data were collected from 228 medical students who agreed to participate in the study at a medical school. The Dundee Ready Medical Environment Measure (DREEM) and the self-esteem scale by Rosenberg were used. Questions measuring satisfaction of medical school life and interpersonal relationships (with professors, with senior/junior students, and with friends) were asked using a 5 point Likert scale. The data were analyzed by t-test, analysis of variance, and multiple regression analysis. The satisfaction of medical school life of male students was significantly higher than female students and increased with years of schooling. In DREEM, the students' perception of teachers decreased by school years. The relationship with senior and junior students of third year students was higher than other school years.
