The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between parents’attitude and their actual performance in home education and adolescent children’s acceptance, and to inquire the difference in relation to social-demographic variables with the subject of family with teenagers. The main results were as follows: 1) There were significant difference between father’s attitude and mothers in home education. And there were significant difference between father’s attitude and mothers according to variables in each area. 2) There were significant differences between father’s performance and mother’s in home education. 3) Adolescent children’s acceptance level was 3.26 (standard 5) and was average. there were significant differences in adolescent children’s acceptance level in accordance with parents’school careers, father’s job, child’s sex and school record. 4) There were relationships between parents’attitude and performance in home education when father’s attitude was confident attitude and situational attitude in education method, and when mother’s attitude was confident attitude. 5) There were relationships only when father’s attitude was confident attitude, and there were no relationships in other case. 6) There were relationships between parents’performance and adolescent children’s acceptance.
This study explored adjustment of school-aged children from low-income divorced families. Specifically, protective factors for children's self-perceived competence and behavior problems were investigated with children's coping strategies, perceived social support, parents' childrearing style, and parental stress. Subjects of this study were 126 children of 4 to 6 grade and their custodial parents(38 fathers, 88 mothers) from divorced families. Children's self-perceived competence and behavior problems were not different neither by children's sex nor custodial parent's sex. When children used more positive and less negative coping strategies, and when parents experienced less childrearing stress, children perceived themselves to be more competent. Similarly, when children used more positive and less negative coping strategies, received more social support, they perceived themselves to be more adequate. Children whose parents had high levels of childrearing stress showed more internalized and externalized behavior problems. Furthermore, children who perceived less supports from peers showed more behavior problems.
To survey the different view points about food service programs among parents and teachers, 2 types of questionnaires, which consisted of attitude, perception, satisfaction and demand of the food service program in child education centers, were used. The data was collected from 2450 parents and 450 teachers who attended a child education center in 16 provinces, nationwide. SPSS was used for descriptive analysis and ANOVA test and $X^2-test$. The frinding results were as follows. 1. The average serving size of meal (lunch) were 80 meals per day and 167 meals per day at large institutions. Mean cost of snacks was 14,709 won per month and mean costs of lunch were 29,319 won per month. The mean price was not significantly different according to the scale of institution. The numbers of servings of lunch, morning snack and afternoon snack were 5, 3.4 and 3.5 times per week each. $56.4\%$ of the institutions served meals to children in classrooms, but the national/public institutions, which were attending elementary school, served meals in a dining place in the elementary school. 2. Teacher controlled serving portion size of snacks $(79.6\%)$ and lunch $(88.8\%)\;and\;30.1\%$ of teacher did not allow leaving lunch food. The ratio of knowing about preserved meals of the teacher who worked at a small institution was significantly higher than the teacher who worked at large institutions (p<0.01). 3. Between parents and teachers, several different view points about school lunch programs were detected. Most parents and teachers wanted that the school lunch to be fully cooked and served at the child education institution itself, but $12.2\%$ of parents and $14.4\%$ of teachers wanted a catering service. The teachers group preferred 'lunch box from home' and 'home partially prepared lunch' as an ideal meal serving type than the parent groups (p<0.01). And there were significantly different view points about price factors in school meals, teachers group highly answered that operating expenses must be added in meal prices. 4. The teacher groups' priorities of education activities during meal time were a significantly lower score than parents group in overall education activities. Teacher and parent groups pointed out that individual sanitation activities were most important of the education activities during meal time, but promoting good eating habits was the lowest score in both groups. 5. 'Improving taste and food quality' was most urgent in food service at child education centers, but there were significantly different view points between parent groups $(64.5\%)$ and teacher groups $(43.8\%)\;(p<0.05)$. They answered at a lower percent in 'employee qualified person' and 'cost control' point to improve food service, but there were also different opinions between the two groups (p<0.01). 6. As to the matter of the advantages and disadvantages of catering services, two group answered that the advantages of a catering service were 'convenience' and 'to solve facilities and labor problems', disadvantages were 'lower in food freshness' and 'sanitation problems'. There were also several different view pionts in catering services, the parents groups were more anxious about food sanitation than teachers. This study found several different view points about school food services among parents and teachers. To improve food services at child education institutions, there is a need to adjust the differences between the two groups through interactive communication channels and education and to employ dietitians as taking charge of adjusting roles between the two groups.
The aim of this study is to investigate the awareness and satisfaction level of school meal services by elementary school students and their parents. Approximately 97.2% of student-subjects have agreed on the necessity of a free meal service for school lunch; 44.3% of student-subjects voiced the need to provide free meal services in order to eliminate discrimination of low-income students. Over one-third of student-subjects (36.7%) cited nutrition as the main benefit of providing a free meal service. The majority of parent-subjects (95.1%) have recognized the need for a free meal service in school; approximately 37.3% of parent-subjects responded to need the free meal service in order to eliminate the discrimination of impoverished students. Both student- and parent-subjects expressed a high level of satisfaction with the quality of ingredients and the type of soup/nutrition provided. Student-subjects insisted on better food hygiene and a new menu, but cited the noisy cafeteria as a problem associated with school meal services. In addition, approximately 56.5% of student-subjects responded to the need for nutritional education in school. Parent-subjects were primarily concerned with hygiene regarding the preparation of school meal services, noting the temperature of foods as the biggest problem in school meal services. The majority of parent-subjects (88.1%) responded to the need for the nutritional education in school. Results of this survey indicate that school meal services can be improved by increasing menu options and increasing food hygiene.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to explore the structural relationships among parents' and teachers' autonomy support, children's basic psychological needs, and children's participation in decision-making. Methods: The participants were 687 elementary school students (5th and 6th grades) in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The data were analyzed using SEM. Results: First, parents' and teachers' autonomy support had a direct effect on children's participation in decision-making. Second, parents' and teachers' autonomy support had an indirect effect on children's participation in decision-making through the children's basic psychological needs. Third, children's basic psychological needs mediated the effects of parents' and teachers's autonomy support and children's participation in decision-making. Conclusion: The findings suggest the importance of the mediating effect of children's basic psychological needs, between parents' and teachers' autonomy support and children's participation in decision-making. The findings can be used as an important basis for prospective research and practices for improving children's participation in decision-making.
The purposes of this study were to explore the differences in maternal parenting behaviors, parents' conflict, social support, and social competence according to boys' and girls' depression level. The participants of this study were 150 children of 4 to 6 grades and their teachers from one elementary school in Seoul. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-test. The result were as follows: Firstly, depressive boys perceived less maternal warmth and more parents' conflict than non-depression group. And boys of depression group had less task orientation than non-depression group. Secondly, depressive girls perceived less maternal warmth, supervision, and parents' support, and more parents' conflict than non-depression group. And girls of depression group were rated having less peer social skills, frustration tolerance than non-depression group by teachers.
Purpose: This study was conducted to develop and investigate the effect of a combined health promotion program for preschool children and their parents. Methods: Physical examinations were done for 993 preschoolers in 12 preschools. Their parents (n=727) completed a questionnaire on health status and health knowledge of their children and 35 teachers in preschools completed one on health knowledge of preschoolers. Based on the results of the physical examinations and survey, a combined health promotion program was developed. In order to evaluate the program, 35 teachers and 104 parents participated in the program. The effects of the program were tested and health knowledge before and after the program was analyzed. Results: Health knowledge of parents and teachers increased significantly after attending the combined health promotion program. Conclusion: In order to promote the health of preschoolers, parents and teachers need to participate in combined health programs that provide an opportunity for preschoolers to have a physical examination and their parents to learn about the health care for their children.
Purpose: This study was done to assess the home nursing and quality of life of parents caring for preschool children with atopic dermatitis and to identify the factors which influence quality of life. Methods: Participants in the study were 149 parents of preschool children with atopic dermatitis attending a kindergarten and a nursery school in S city. Parent completed a set of questionnaires (assessing demographic factors, home nursing, quality of life). Descriptive analysis, t-test, ANOVA and multiple regression were used to analyze the data. Results: The mean score for home nursing was $3.06{\pm}0.38$ and for quality of life, $4.18{\pm}0.74$. The lowest scored question in the 13 question on quality of life was that of frustration related to itching sensation. Significant factors that affect quality of life were severity and home care. These variables explained 21% of variance in quality of life (F=21.17, p<.001). Conclusion: The results indicate that severity of childhood atopic dermatitis and home nursing impact on the quality of life of parents. Using the above findings, health professionals who work with children with atopic dermatitis and their parents need to develop specific nursing interventions that will promote health of children with atopic dermatitis and quality of life in their parents.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the awareness of child rearing among parents of children in early childhood and to provide fundamental data for parent education programs according to child rearing type. Methods: Q-methodology which provides a method of analyzing the subjectivity of each item was used. Forty Q items which were derived from a literature review and interviews with nurturing mothers were classified into a normal distribution using a 9-point scale. Collected data were analyzed using the QUANAL PC Program. Results: Four types of parents' child rearing were identified. Type I was named 'affection-respect type', type II, 'concern-rule compliant type', type III, 'solicitude-model type', and type IV, 'geniality-encouragement type'. Conclusion: For proper growth and development during early childhood, parents should have rational information and awareness of their child rearing type. Results of this study can be used as essential data to develop child rearing education programs according to parents' child rearing attitude.

For the active communication between school and the parents, this paper proposes the educational information delivery system running on the wireless internet using a cellular phone as well as on the existing wired internet using a PC. First, we have performed the survey on what kind of educational information the parents of the students want. The participated parents are 135 parents of the students in elementary, middle, high, and vocational high schools in Seoul. According to the result of this survey and the analysis on the operational mobile and educational sites, the educational information for parents, and the user interface of a cellular phone for the convenient access of mobile information are designed. Also, this mobile educational information system uses SMS for the parents to access the educational information easily.
