Abstract We report the result of measurement for the ferro-to paramagnetic phase transition temperature shift of a gadolinium film. The phase transition temperature has been determined by measuring the resistance changes of film as function of temperature. At the ferro-to paramagnetic transition temperature, we can observe the inflection point of resistance changes. The phase transition temperature of 6600$\AA$ gadolinium film is found to be shifted by 4 $\pm$ 0.$3^{\circ}C$ below the transition temperature of bulk gadolinium. This is the first measurement for the phase transition temperature shift of ferromagnetic gadolinium film. This and further results might give a milestone in resolving the differences between experiments and finite-size scaling theory.
Power consumed by modern computer systems, particularly servers in data centers has almost reached an unacceptable level. However, their energy consumption is often not justifiable when their utilization is considered; that is, they tend to consume more energy than needed for their computing related jobs. Task scheduling in distributed computing systems (DCSs) can play a crucial role in increasing utilization; this will lead to the reduction in energy consumption. In this paper, we address the problem of scheduling precedence-constrained parallel applications in DCSs, and present two energy- conscious scheduling algorithms. Our scheduling algorithms adopt dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS) to minimize energy consumption. DVFS, as an efficient power management technology, has been increasingly integrated into many recent commodity processors. DVFS enables these processors to operate with different voltage supply levels at the expense of sacrificing clock frequencies. In the context of scheduling, this multiple voltage facility implies that there is a trade-off between the quality of schedules and energy consumption. Our algorithms effectively balance these two performance goals using a novel objective function and its variant, which take into account both goals; this claim is verified by the results obtained from our extensive comparative evaluation study.
This paper proposed signal decomposition and multiresolution representation through wavelet transform using wavelet orthonormal basis. And it suggested most appropriate filter for scaling function in multiresoltion representation and compared two compression method, arithmetic coding and Huffman coding. Results are as follows 1. Daub18 coefficient is most appropriate in computing time, energy compaction, image quality. 2. In case of image browsing that should be small in size and good for recognition, it is reasonable to decompose to 3 scale using pyramidal algorithm. 3. For the case of progressive transmittion where requires most grateful image reconstruction from least number of sampls or reconstruction at any target rate, I embedded the data in order of significance after scaling to 5 step. 4. Medical images such as information loss is fatal have to be compressed by lossless method. As a result from compressing 5 scaled data through arithmetic coding and Huffman coding, I obtained that arithmetic coding is better than huffman coding in processing time and compression ratio. And in case of arithmetic coding I could compress to 38% to original image data.
processes at the origin of the star formation in the galaxies over the last 10 billions years. While it was proposed in the past that merging of galaxies has a dominant role to explain the triggering of the star formation in the distant galaxies having high star formation rates. In the opposite, more recent studies revealed scaling laws linking the star formation rate in the galaxies to their stellar mass or their gas mass. The small dispersion of these laws seems to be in contradiction with the idea of powerful stochastic events due to interactions, but rather in agreement with the new vision of galaxy history where the latter are continuously fed by intergalactic gas. I was especially interested in one of this scaling law, the relation between the star formation (SFR) and the stellar mass (M*) of galaxies, commonly called the main sequence of star forming galaxies. I have studied this main sequence, SFR-M*, in function of the morphology and other physical parameters as the radius, the colour, the clumpiness. The goal was to understand the origin of the sequence's dispersion related to the physical processes underlying this sequence in order to identify the main mode of star formation controlling this sequence. This work needed a multi-wavelength approach as well as the use of galaxies profile simulation to distinguish between the different galaxy morphological types implied in the main sequence.

In this paper, we design a dynamic state feedback smooth stabilizer for a nonlinear system whose Jacobian linearization may have uncontrollable mode because its eigenvalues are on the right half-plane. After designing an augmented system, a dynamic exponent scaling and backstepping enable one to explicitly design a smooth stabilizer and a continuously differentiable Lyapunov function which is positive definite and proper. The convergence of the designed controller is proved by the new notion 'degree indicator'.
Evaluation is to be seen a~ a central component of design activity. It is an attempt to ensure that the proposal which arises is accepted and that the resulting artefact itself suited to its purposes in practice. Recent surveys of Evaluation show that most methods require quantitative and explicit attributes. Always a significant part of the attributes of design proposals is qualitative. Therefore we need some study that convert qualitative attributes into quantitative scale values, because in many cases con\ulcornerclusions can be drawn about the order of the overall value of the design proposals. Following to Thurstone's psychological scaling methods, attributive values are assigned by ruting scale methods, met, hod of rank-order and method of paired comparisons. The problem of psycho\ulcornerlogical scaling is then to determine whether the stimuli can be ordered on a psychological continuum with respect to the degree of the attributes each possesses. The law of comparative judgement assumes that for a given stimulus there is associated a most frequently aroused or modal discriminal process on a psychological continuum. This paper is based upon the premise that the modal discriminul process will also be the same as the mean or median of the distribution. The objective of this paper is to argue for an acceptance of qualitative approaches to the evalua\ulcornertion of Design as a complement to the existing quantitative techniques. The scale values of 10 attri\ulcornerbutes \ulcorner(1) originality, (2) aesthetics, (3) satisfaction, (4) effeciency, (5) function, (6) size, (7) texture, (8) simplicity, (9) symbol, and (10) facility) in case of TV sets are obtained and their interactions are examined.

In phase-locked frequency synthesizers, a fast-lock technique is frequently employed to overcome the trade-off between a lock-time and a spurious response. The function of fast-lock in a conventional PLL (Phased Lock Loop) IC (Integrated Circuit) is limited by a factor of 16, which is usually implemented by a scaling of charge pumper, and consequently a lock time improvement of a factor of 4 is possible using the conventional PLL IC. In this paper, we propose a novel external active fast-lock loop filter. The proposed loop filter provides, conceptually, an unlimited scaling of charge pumper current, and can overcome conventional trade-off between lock-time and spur suppression. To demonstrate the validity of our proposed loop-filter, we fabricated an X-band frequency synthesizer using the proposed loop filter. The loop filter in the synthesizer is designed to have a loop bandwidth of 100 kHz in the fast-lock mode and a loop bandwidth of 5 kHz in the normal mode, which corresponds to a charge pumper current change ratio of 400. The X-band synthesizer shows successful performance of a lock-time of below 10 ${\mu}sec$ and reference spur suppression below -64 dBc.

We present a new database of our two-dimensional bulge-disk decompositions for 14,482 galaxies drawn from SDSS DR12 in order to examine the properties of bulges residing in the local universe (0.005 < z < 0.05). We performed decompositions in g and r bands by utilizing the GALFIT software. The bulge colors and bulge-to-total ratios are found to be sensitive to the details in the decomposition technique. The g-r colors of bulges derived are almost constantly red regardless of bulge size except for the bulges in the low bulge-to-total ratio galaxies (approximately $B/T_r{\leq}0.3$). Bulges exhibit similar scaling relations to those followed by elliptical galaxies, but the bulges in galaxies with lower bulge-to-total ratios clearly show a gradually larger departure in slope from the elliptical galaxy sequence. The scatters around the scaling relations are also larger for the bulges in galaxies with lower bulge-to-total ratios. Both the departure in slopes and larger scatters are likely originated from the presence of young stars. While bulges seem largely similar in optical properties to elliptical galaxies, they do show clear and systematic departures as a function of bulge-to-total ratio. The stellar properties and perhaps associated formation processes of bulges seem much more diverse than those of elliptical galaxies.
This paper describes the modeling of climate change impact on drought using a conceptual soil moisture model and presents the results of the modeling approach. The future climate series is obtained by scaling the historical series, informed by CCCma CGCM3-T63 with A2 green house emission scenario, using a daily scaling method that considers changes in the future monthly precipitation and potential evapotranspiration as well as in the daily precipitation distribution. The majority of the modeling results indicate that there will be more frequent drought in Korea in the future.

Purpose: The research is to find out the perception of consumers for the convenience store (c - store) image in an emerging market, with a sample from Ho Chi Minh City. Research design, data, and methodology: Data were collected using a 24 - item structured questionnaire into six factors, namely: store atmospheric, merchandise, supplementary service, customer convenience, sales personnel, promotion. Five hundred consumers shopped at the different c - stores were collected for a multidimensional scaling technique that creates a perceptual map illustrating of c - store image. Results: The results point out that consumers' perception of a different c - store is different. The trend of c- stores are focusing on the dimensions of the function aspect. The customers also put their attention on the psychological dimension, which, in this case, is customer convenience with a sharp point. Almost all stores are bad on store atmospheric in customer- based. Conclusions: The modern retail store chains need to focus on elements to create a store image positioning and improve the perceptions of the consumers towards the store. Besides, customers not only visit the stores, not due to its convenient location, mass media or shopping experience, but also a strong identity for the store's brand image.
