  • Scribing the transparent conductive oxide(TCO) is an essential technology for the large scaled dye-sensitized solar cell(DSC) and the commercialization of the DSC. Laser systems are most used for scribing technology due to their precision. However, it is difficult to generalize systems because most systems are large and heavy. In this study, we tried to simplificate the Nd:YAG laser system for scribing TCO of the DSC by using switched mode power supply(SMPS) technique. The continuous conduction mode booster converter topology is applied and MC34262 power factor controller is used for the variable frequency control. Finally, SMPS circuit which specifications are 400W of capacity, 400V DC output and 98% of efficiency is fabricated. And it is demonstrated that the scribing TCO is completed by the Nd:YAG laser using this SMPS circuit.

  • One-dimensional (1D) nanowires have been received much attention due to their potential for applications in various field. Recently some logic applications fabricated on various nanowires, such as ZnO, CdS, Si, are reported. These logic circuits, which consist of two- or three field effect transistors(FETs), are basic components of computation machine such as central process unit (CPU). FETs fabricated on nanowire generally have surrounded shapes of gate structure, which improve the device performance. Highly integrated circuits can also be achieved by fabricating on nano-scaled nanowires. But the numerical and SPICE simulation about the logic circuitry have never been reported and analyses of detailed parameters related to performance, such as channel doping, gate shapes, souce/drain contact and etc., were strongly needed. In our study, NAND and NOT logic circuits were simulated and characterized using 2- and 3-dimensional numerical simulation (SILVACO ATLAS) and built-in spice module(mixed mode).

  • This paper was studied on the cavitation instability of a Solution Pump Inducer in an absorption chiller-heater. Inlet pressure of LiBr and rotational speed at nominal mode are 2,800 Pa and 3,500 rpm respectively. Due to the marginal operation of available NPSH, the cavitation performance of the inducer is critical for the stable operation without the deterioration of head performance. In the study, cavitation performance and its mode of instability was investigated experimentally. Water was used as the working fluid and the test inducer was scaled up as 1.75 times for detail measurements and flow visualization. Inlet pressure was controlled by a vacuum pump. This research focused on types of cavitation instability and phenomena to investigate the possibility of harmful damage due to cavitation instability. Casing wall pressure and instantaneous inlet pressure was measured to observe the unsteady flow characteristics. Through the visualization and spectrum analysis of pressure, the occurrence region and intensity of asymmetric cavitation and cavitation surge are analyzed in the test inducer.

  • This paper attempts to extract the fundamental dynamic properties, i.e. natural frequencies, damping ratios of the 48 m-long, $20^{\circ}$ skewed real bridge with PSC girders wrapped by a steel plate. The forced vibration test is achieved by mounting 12 Hz-capacity of artificial oscillator on the top of bridge deck. The acceleration histories at the 9 different locations of deck surface are recorded using accelerometors. From this full-scaled vibration test, the two possible resonance frequencies are detected at 2.38 Hz and 9.86 Hz of the skewed bridge deck by sweeping a beating frequency up to 12 Hz. The absolute acceleration/energy exhibits much higher in case of higher-order twist mode, 9.86 Hz due to the skewness of bridge deck which leads asymmetric situation of vibration. This implies the test bridge is under swinging vertically in fundamental flexure mode while the bridge is also flickered up and down laterally at 9.86 Hz. This is probably by asymmetric geometry of skewed deck. A detailed 3D beam-shell bridge models using finite elements are performed under a series of train loads for modal dynamic analyses. Thereby, the effect of skewness is examined to clarify the lateral flickering caused by asymmetrical geometry of bridge deck.

  • This paper presents intermediate results of an on-going research for identification of the modal and the stiffness parameters of a bridge based on the ambient vibration data caused by the traffic loadings. The main algorithms consist of the random decrement method incorporating band-pass filters for estimation of the free vibration signals the cross spectral density method for identification of the modal parameters and the neural networks technique for estimation of the element-level stiffness changes. An experimental study is carried out on a scaled bridge model with a composite section subjected to various moving vehicle loadings. Vertical accelerations are measured at several locations on the girder. The estimated frequencies and mode shapes are found to be well-compared with those obtained from the impact tests. The estimated stiffness changes using the neural networks are found to be very good for the case with the simulated data. However the accuracy is found to be not quite satisfactory for the case with the experimental data particularly for the small value of the stiffness changes.

  • This study presents a nondestructive test for underwater PVC pipes. To use guided ultrasonic waves, specially denoted by cylindrical Lamb waves, a test setup was made in a water tank using the pitch and catch mode and specimens were made to give artificial cutouts located in the circumferential direction of the pipes. Total three states of damaged levels were considered to see how the guided waves interact with the defects. For the experimental adjustments, three different pipe diameters (60, 90, 114 mm) were tested, and two factors - incident angle (10 and $40^{\circ}$) and distance (50 and 200 mm) - were tried. From the results, regardless of the diameters and two experimental factors, it is shown that the degrees of defects were recognized through amplitude and arrived time of the very first part of the received cylindrical Lamb waves. Between amplitude and arrived time, it is found that the amplitude gives more sensitive results.

  • Low frequency oscillation of inter-area system is important problem in power system areas because the operation conditions of power system depend on it. Generally, the analysis of the problem is used by small signal stability. Especially, the analysis results are affected by decision of load models. In this paper, the effect of the analysis results was studied according to load component characteristics. ZIP model, popular in large-scaled power system analysis, was used as the load model. Many cases were studied according to the combination of ZIP model in inter-area system.

  • Time reversal (TR) of nondispersive body waves has been used in many applications including ultrasonic NDE. However, the study of the TR method for Lamb waves on thin structures is not well established. In this paper, the full reconstruction of the input signal is investigated for dispersive Lamb waves by introducing a time reversal operator based on the Mindlin plate theory. A broadband and a narrowband input waveform are employed to reconstruct the $A_0$ mode of Lamb wave propagations. Due to the frequency dependence of the TR process of Lamb waves, different frequency components of the broadband excitation are scaled differently during the time reversal process and the original input signal cannot be fully restored. This is the primary reason for using a narrowband excitation to enhance the flaw detectability.

  • This paper presents a numerical study on structural behavior of hammer head pier cap beams, extended on verges and reinforced with carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) plates. A 3-D finite element (FE) model along with a simplified analytical model are presented. Concrete damage plasticity (CDP) was adapted in the FE model and an analytical approach predicting the CFRP anchor strength was adapted in both FE and analytical model. Total five quarter-scaled pier cap beams with various CFRP reinforcing schemes were experimentally tested and analyzed with numerical approaches. Comparison between experimental results, FE results, analytical results and current ACI guideline predictions was presented. The FE results showed good agreement with experimental results in terms of failure mode, ultimate capacity, load-displacement response and strain distribution. In addition, the proposed strut-and-tie based analytical model provides the most accurate prediction of ultimate strength of extended cap beams among the three numerical approaches.

  • A mathematic model was developed for the simulation of sideways overturning of agricultural tractors on slopes. The overturning motion was described as a combination of the rotational motions with respect to the first and second tipping axes using the principle of conservation of angular mementum. A stability criterion was also established in terms of angular acceleration of tractor about the second tipping axis. Verification of the proposed model was provided by comparing the stability boundaries predicted by computer simulation with those observed experimentally for an equivalent 1/6 scaled mode tractor. A good agreement was shown between the simulation and experimental results.
