We have developed a multi-domain vertically aligned liquid crystal display (MVA-LCD) that produces natural gray-scale images even at high viewing angles. We divided each pixel into two areas and set different threshold voltages for each sub-area. A transparent electrode in a sub-area is not connected directly to the source electrodes but via the capacitance of the SiN layer. In particular, light-orange skin color appears very natural, even at a high inclination angle. The contrast ratio is over 500 in the normal direction and over 10 from any viewing angle.
The purpose of this study was to develop an instrument for assessing Korean mother's child rearing attitudes. The study attempted to explore dimensionality of maternal attitudes and formulated conceptual framwork. The items of maternal behaviour scale were tested on 300 mothers of 4th∼6th grade elementary school children living in urban areas. By the method of reliability analysis and factor analysis, 43 items were finally selected for the scale. The reliability of the new scale was ranged from .57 to .80. The construct validity of the scale was supported by the results of factor analysis.
The purpose of this study is to design a body-fat measurable electronic scale which can measure body impedance and weight. The hardware configuration of this system for the body-fat measurement includes a sinewave constant current generator, a analog switch circuit and a microprocessor with peripheral interface as well as electronic scale circuit. And the dedicated software is also designed for calculating body fat and body composition analysis from the result of the measurement.
This study was conducted in order to develop an observation scale for analyzing the responses of child and therapist in child-centered play therapy in terms of item discrimination, validity, and reliability. The observation scale was developed on the basis of child-centered play therapy literature, the author's experience of child-centered play therapy, the observation of video tapes of play therapy session, and discussions with child-centered play therapy experts. The participants in this study were 54 children aged from 4 to 9 years old who have emotional and behavioral problems, and 7 therapists who consult with the children. The reliability of factors, as measured by inter-rater reliability and Cronbach's', ranged from .72 to .77. The results of factor analysis identified 2 factors and 21 items associated with the reponses of the children, and 2 factors and 19 items associated with the responses of the therapists. The significant factors identified were as follows; (1) the child's response style; (2) the child's response content (adaptability, initiation, structuring, flexibility); (3) the therapist's response style, and (4) the therapist's response content (facilitative response, structuring, nonfacilitative response). In conclusion, these results demonstrated that the observation scale provides a valid and reliable means of analyzing the responses of child and therapist in child-centered play therapy.
Postpartum depression is one of the most serious problems in maternal health because it affects not only the mother but also her family. Postpartum depression disturbs the maternal-infant interaction and attachment. However, most postpartum depression patients ignore this problem and do not seek treatment. Many clinicians and researchers realiza there is a need to develop a postpartum depression scale. Thus, this study has been designed to development of a postpartum depression scale. Data were collected through a survey over a period of three months. Subjects who participated in the study were 167 Korean mothers in their postpartum period. The author used a convenience sampling method. The analysis of the data was done with SPSS PC/sup +/ for descriptive statistics, item analysis and factor analysis. Initially 62 items were generated from the interview data of eight postpartum depression patients and from a literature review. This preliminary scale was analyzed for reliability and validity. The results of this analysis are as follows. 1. Initially 62 items were analyzed through the Index of Content Validity(CVI) and 48 items were selected. 2. Seven factors were extracted through the principal component analysis, and these contributed 61% of the variance in the total score. Finally 46 items in the scale loaded .41∼ .84 on one of seven factors. 3. Each factor was labeled. Factor 1 was labeled 'emotional phenomena-emotional upset' and included 13 items, factor 2 was labeled' cognitive phenomena-self concept disturbance' and included seven items, factor 3 was labeled 'relationship to baby-negative feeling' and included six items, factor 4 was labeled 'relationship to baby- overload' and included eight items, factor 5 was labeled 'negative maternal identity' and included five items, factor 6 was labeled 'biophysiological phenomena-disturbance of physical functioning' and included four items, and factor 7 was labeled' interpersonal relationship phenomena-blamed others' and included three items. 4. Cronbach Coefficient Alpha for internal consistency was .95 for the total 46 items. Finally, the author suggests that this scale could be adequately applied in assessing the postpartum depression of mothers during the postpartum period. The results of this study can contribute to designing an appropriate postpartum depression prevention strategy.
This study investigated the effect and interrelationship of evaluation system in employee's job satisfaction at deluxe hotel kitchen in the Seoul area. The questionnaires developed for this study were distributed to 400 chefs during June to August, 2012. A total of 364 questionnaires were used for analysis (91.0%) and the statistical analysis was completed using PASW (SPSS) 18. The status of operating menu evaluation and menu development was analyzed by dividing the questionnaires into three categories: 'menu idea', 'menu evaluator' and 'menu evaluation system'. The 'menu idea' category showed the highest concern for 'Is the selected idea differentiated from competitors' menu?' (3.10 Likert scale), the 'menu evaluator' category showed the highest concern for 'Do the evaluator's individual factors affect menu evaluation?' ($3.88{\pm}0.96$), and the 'menu evaluation system' showed the highest concern for 'Is the menu commercialized by the menu evaluation system?' (3.32 Likert scale). Overall job satisfaction was studied into three categories: 'human field', 'material field' and 'evaluation field'. Overall satisfaction about one's job was 3.24 Likert scale. For satisfaction in each category, satisfaction for 'human field' was the highest with 3.30 Likert scale compared to 'material field' and 'evaluation field' with 2.76 Likert scale and 3.27 Likert scale, respectively. In conclusion, establishment of a unified evaluation system to improve employee's job satisfaction related to menu development is needed.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a wisdom scale among Korean elderly with high validity and reliability. Method: The process of the development of this scale follows: A conceptual framework was identified based on literature a review of the elderly and discussion with experts in physiology and sociology. Total 128 items were developed. Through reliability testing, factor analysis, 60 preliminary items, and 4-points scale were selected. By a means of the internal consistency for 60 items, 33 items were deleted. Finally, 27 items were remained. To verity 27 items, factor analysis, reliability testing, and correlation were done. Data were collected from 480 elderly subjects in Daegu, Kyungpook Province, and Busan, Kyungnam Province from August, 2008 to February, 2009. Results: From the results of the factor analysis for 27 items, 3 factors were extracted. These factors were labeled as 'empathic emotion', 'self-reflection', and 'bitter experience of life'. Cronbach's Alpha for the 27 items was .921 and correlation coefficient of ego-integrity was .69. Conclusion: An exploratory study of the variables related to wisdom among the elderly is needed for criterion validity of this scale. A study on wisdom for different age groups is needed for re-verification.
The purpose of this study was to develop the Children's Social Support Scale to assess three potential aspects of social support in elementary school age children ; the children's subjective apprasials of family, peer, and teacher support ; the frequency of supportive behaviors available from the child's support network; and the size of children's social support network. The subjects of this study were 380 children of forth and sixth graders in elementary schools located in Seoul. The 68 items(perceived support scale 30 items, enacted support scale 35 items, and support network 3 items) were analyzed by the statistical methods of item analysis, principal factor analysis, Factor analysis revealed that a three factor solution was the best for the Perceived Support scale ; family peer, teacher support. Enacted Support scale comprised of three factors; emotional, self-esteem, and informational support. Support Network scale was composed of emotional, self-esteem, and informational support network. Reliabilities for the domains ranged form .75-89. It was concluded that the children's Social Support scale in general is acceptable for use in Korea.
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to develop a knowledge scale of risk factors for fall among community-dwelling older adults. Further, the validity and reliability of the scale was developed. Methods: A preliminary scale was developed through content validity by five experts and targeted subjects using the CVI (Content Validity Index). Following the establishment of content validity, the scale was used with 359 community-dwelling older adults to further establish both validity and reliability of the scale. Specifically, construct validity using known-group comparison technique, and reliability using Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ were established. Results: After content validity testing, 44 preliminary items were selected. Construct validity was established by known group-comparison, in which scores between the fall and no fall groups were compared. The Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ of the final scale was .83. Conclusion: Reliability and validity of the scale were confirmed. This tool may be used for measuring knowledge of fall risk factor for the community-dwelling older adults.
Background: Consumption of tobacco in the form of a water pipe has recently increased, especially among young people. This study aimed to develop a scale which would be used in order to detect perceptions about the effects of water pipe smoking on health and to test its validity and reliability. Our scale named "a scale of perception about the effects of water pipe smoking on health" was developed in order to detect factors effecting the perception of adolescents about the effects of water pipe smoking on health. Materials and Methods: The sample consisted of 150 voluntary students in scale development and 750 voluntary students in the study group. Data were collected via a questionnaire prepared by researchers themselves and 5-pont Likert scale for "a scale of perception about the effects of water pipe smoking on health" which was prepared through the literature. Data evaluation was carried out on a computer with SPSS. Results: The findings of the study showed that "a scale of perception about the effects of water pipe smoking on health" was valid and reliable. Total score average of the adolescents participated in the study was $58.5{\pm}1.25$. The mean score of the ones who did not smoke water pipe ($60.1{\pm}11.7$) was higher than the mean score of the ones who smoked water pipe ($51.6{\pm}13.8$), the difference being statistically significant. Conclusions: It is established that "a scale of perception about the effects of water pipe smoking on health" was a reliable and valid measurement tool. It is also found out that individuals who smoked a water pipe had a lower level of perception of water pipe smoking effects on health than their counterparts who did not smoke a water pipe.
