A numerical model is established to investigate the run-up of a solitary wave after propagating over a triangular saw-tooth-shaped submerged breakwater. A rectangular-shaped submerged breakwater is simulated for comparison. Several factors, including the submerged depth, the lagoon length and the beach slope, are selected as independent variables. The free surface motions and velocity fields of the solitary wave interacting with the submerged breakwater are discussed. The results show that the submerged depth and lagoon length play significant roles in reducing the run-up. The influence of the beach slope is not significant. At the same submerged depth, the triangular saw-tooth-shaped submerged breakwater has only a slightly better effect than the rectangular-shaped submerged breakwater on the run-up reduction. However, a calmer reflected wave profile could be obtained with the rougher surface of the saw-tooth-shaped submerged breakwater. The study conclusions are expected to be useful for the conceptual design of saw-tooth-shaped submerged breakwaters.
In this paper, a new PWM method is proposed to reduce the input current harmonics of 3 phase PWM rectifier. In the conventional carrier comparison PWM method, a triangular wave is generally used as the carrier wave. However, the large d-axis current ripple by the triangle carrier wave may be a source of large input current THD(Total Harmonic Distortion). In this paper, a new carrier comparison PWM method with saw tooth wave is proposed. Depending on the sector where the voltage command vector places, one of the rising or falling saw tooth wave is selected. To reduce the switching losses of the saw tooth carrier PWM, the discontinuous PWM is also presented. The proposed PWM method can reduce the d-axis current ripple as well as the switching losses. The performance of the conventional and proposed PWM methods is verified by the simulation and experimental results.
A method to control the luminous colour of a gaseous discharge tube has been investigated by using the saw-tooth wave of which rise-time was controlled by an electronic circuit. The luminous colour of a Ne - Hg lamp was changed from red to blue continuously and vice versa, and it's luminous characteristics are as follows: (a) With D.C. potentials, it showed blue colour and the relative intensity of the colour is increased first and saturated at about 17 mA as the discharge current is increased. (b) When the rise-time of the saw-tooth wave is about 10 $\mu\textrm{s}$, the red colour which is caused by Ne - excitation is dominant, and when about 200 $\mu\textrm{s}$, only the blue colour which is caused by Hg - excitation is shown. (c) With saw-tooth pulse, the relative intensity of blue is increased similarly as that with D.C. potential as the current peak of each pulse is increased, while that of red is increasing continuously and it's intensity shows about twice than blue. (d) The spectrum of red colour contains Ne - excitation lines and Hg - blue lines, but the apparent luminous colour is red because Ne - red lines are more plenty than Hg-blue lines. The spectrum of blue colour presents only Hg-blre lines.
With the 4-MJ synthetic testing facilities completed, KERI can perform the circuit breaker testing up to 420 kV, 50 kA ratings. The short-line fault test is one of the necessary test items which are required for the circuit breaker, and in order to perform the short-line fault test KERI(Korea Electrotechnology Institute) has used the "new artificial line" which has small dimension and is easy to generate the saw-tooth wave. This paper describes the following items of the new artificial line. -Description of 4-kinds of artificial lines and determination of the circuit parameter of artificial line. -TRV characteristics of saw-tooth waves for each circuit. -KERI's artificial line.
Wave propagation in a three-dimensional (3D) fully nonlinear numerical wave tank (NWT) is studied based on velocity potential theory. The governing Laplace equation with fully nonlinear boundary conditions on the moving free surface is solved using the indirect desingularized boundary integral equation method (DBIEM). The fourth-order predictor-corrector Adams-Bashforth-Moulton scheme (ABM4) and mixed Eulerian-Lagrangian (MEL) method are used for the time-stepping integration of the free surface boundary conditions. A smoothing algorithm, B-spline, is applied to eliminate the possible saw-tooth instabilities. The artificial wave speed employed in MTF (multi-transmitting formula) approach is investigated for fully nonlinear wave problem. The numerical results from incorporating the damping zone (DZ), MTF and MTF coupled DZ (MTF+DZ) methods as radiation condition are compared with analytical solution. An effective MTF+DZ method is finally adopted to simulate the 3D linear wave, second-order wave and irregular wave propagation. It is shown that the MTF+DZ method can be used for simulating fully nonlinear wave propagation very efficiently.
This paper presents micro step driving method using VHDL(Very high speed integrated circuit Hardware Description Language) which can configure CPLD(Complex Programmable Logic Device). Using VHDL which can do abstractive programming is similar to high level language. The whole block divided into five parts with freq. divide part, saw-tooth wave generation part, sine-cosine wave generation part, comparative part, out part. In the result of this study, peripheral circuits are to be simple and using LPM(Library of Parameterized Modules) is more easily to configure circuit. It is easy to verify and implement by using VHDL. To subdivide one natural step, we confirm that using micro step driver is expected that the rotor motion is stepless very smooth.
Organic ($Alq_3$) film, which was coated on a donor plate, was transferred to an organic light emitting diode (OLED) substrate with help of heat generated by a dithering laser beam. The laser beam was diffracted in an acousto-optic modulator (AOM), then focused on the laser-to-heat converting layer of the donor plate; the focused spot followed trajectories guided by rotation of a Galvano-mirror. Three different functional waveforms, sine wave, square wave, and saw tooth wave were applied to the AOM as modulation signal to generate the dithering beam. The fluorescence microscope images of the donor plate showed that the patterns of removed $Alq_3$ film were affected considerably by the modulation waveforms and the phase difference between adjacent dithering beams. Further, the printed images of Alq3 film on the OLED substrate were different from the patterns of removed Alq3 film. Atomic force microscope images indicated that not only direct transfer but also deposition by sublimated vapor of Alq3 contributed to the pattern formation. Printed patterns affected considerably the electricity-to-light conversion characteristics of OLEDs. For uniform transfer, not only the phase relation of dithering beam lines but also adequate waveform were important.
The three-dimensional ship motion with forward speed was solved by a finite element method in the time domain. A boundary value problem was described in the frame of a fixed-body reference, and the problem was formulated according to Double-Body and Neumann-Kelvin linearizations. Laplace's equation with boundary conditions was solved by a classical finite element method based on the weak formulation. Chebyshev filtering was used to get rid of an unwanted saw-tooth wave and a wave damping zone was adopted to impose a numerical radiation condition. The time marching of the free surface was performed by the 4th order Adams-Bashforth-Moulton method. Wigley I and Wigely III models were considered for numerical validation. The hydrodynamic coefficients and wave exciting forces were validated by a comparison with experimental data and the numerical results of the Wigley I. The effects of the linearization are also discussed. The motion RAO was also checked with a Wigley III model through mono-chromatic and multi-chromatic regular waves.
