기능성 소화불량증 환자에 대한 복부(腹部) 수기치료의 효과 (Effectiveness of Abdominal Manipulation Therapy in Functional Dyspepsia Patients)

  • Objectives Functional dyspepsia is a type of disease characterized by bothersome postprandial fullness, early satiation, epigastric pain and burning without structural gastrointestinal disorders. The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in symptoms, quality of life, HRV (Heart Rate Variability) before and after abdominal manipulation therapy in functional dyspepsia patients. Methods We recruited twenty functional dyspepsia patients from the volunteers who applied for this clinical trial. State of Patients were assessed by NDI-K (Nepean Dyspepsia Index Korean Version), HRV (Heart Rate Variability) before treatment. After 4 times of abdominal manipulation therapy for 2 weeks, state of patients were assessed by the same methods. Results Total symptom score and total quality of life score of NDI-K were significantly improved by the abdominal manipulation therapy. After the treatment, the number of subjects within normal range of LF/HF ratio was significantly increased. Although the median of LF/HF ratio did not significantly changed, interquartile range was reduced. Conclusions Abdominal manipulation therapy possibly can be an effective treatment for functional dyspepsia patients, but further studies are needed to demonstrate the effectiveness of abdominal manipulation therapy for functional dyspepsia patients.

Compensatory Responses of Nile Tilapia Oreochromis niloticus under Different Feed-Deprivation Regimes

  • We investigated compensatory growth of Nile Tilapia Oreochromis niloticus in structural size and live weight in response to different deprivation periods and refeeding. Four treatments were assigned randomly to fish in 12 glass tanks, with each treatment performed in triplicate. The control group was fed to satiation three times a day throughout the experiment. The other three treatment groups were starved for 1 week (S1), 2 weeks (S2), or 4 weeks (S4) and then fed until the end of the experiment. After the experiment, no significant differences were observed among S1, S2, and the control group in average weight or length, whereas the weight and length of S4 were significantly reduced. Relative condition factors of the three starved groups decreased significantly until the end of the restricted period but recovered rapidly after refeeding. The specific growth rate in weight ($SGR_W$) of the three restricted groups recovered quickly upon refeeding and were significantly higher than the control group, but these differences disappeared gradually until the end of the experiment. No significant difference in specific growth rate in length ($SGR_L$) was noted between the control group and the three restricted groups after refeeding. All three groups showed hyperphagia for a short period upon refeeding, and no statistical differences were observed in feeding efficiency among the four groups.

  • The effects of feeding frequency on the growth, food consumption, body composition, and hematological response of the Korean rockfish Sebastes schlegelii were investigated for 77 days at ambient water temperatures (17.2-24.5℃) in a sea cage in Tongyeong, Korea. Three replicate groups of fish were hand-fed to satiation with a commercial diet in one of four different feeding frequency trials (one meal every 2 days, and one, two and three meals per day). At the end of the experiment, the mean weight gain, specific growth rate, and daily feed intake of fish fed one and two meals per day were significantly higher than those of fish fed one meal every 2 days or three meals per day. The feed efficiency of the fish fed three meals per day was significantly lower than that of the fish in the other groups. The glucose concentration of fish fed one meal every 2 days was significantly higher than that of the other groups. We conclude that the optimum feeding frequency for improving the growth of Korean rockfish weighing 100-200 g reared in sea cages is one meal per day under our experimental conditions.

The dietary requirement for threonine in juvenile olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus)

  • This study was conducted to determine dietary threonine (Thr) requirement for juvenile olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus). A total of 450 juvenile fish (23.2 ± 0.4 g) were randomly distributed to 18 tanks (215 L) with 25 fish per tank. Experimental diets included with graded levels of Thr at 0.0%, 0.4%, 0.8%, 1.2%, 1.6%, and 2.0% were assigned for triplicate groups of fish and fed two times daily to apparent satiation for 12 weeks. Weight gain, specific growth rate, feed intake, feed utilization and survival were significantly (p < 0.05) increased in fish fed with dietary Thr levels over 0.8%, and no significant differences were observed between 0.8% to 2.3% levels. Non-specific immune parameters of serum lysozyme, myeloperoxidase activity, antiprotease activity, and total immunoglobulin were significantly increased by dietary Thr over 0.8%. Based on the broken-line regression analysis, the Thr requirement for the optimum growth and immune response in olive flounder is likely to be 1.03% in the diet.

  • 조피볼락 사육시 수온과 먹이공급량이 성장과 사료효율에 미치는 영향을 알기위하여 사육수온과 먹이공급량을 달리하여 사육실험을 한 결과는 다음과 같다. 사육수온 12, 15 및 $18^{\circ}C$에서 사육한 결과 $15^{\circ}C$ 실험구에서 일간사료섭취율 및 일간성장률은 3.64 및 1.66%로 다른 실험구에 비하여 높게나타났으나, 사료효율은 40.7-45.7%로 실험구간에 차이가 없었다. 먹이공급량을 어체중의 0.0-3.0% 범위로 하여 사육실험한 결과 사료효율은 절식구를 제외한 나머지 실험구에서는 41.1-57.2%의 범위로 유의차가 없었고, 일간성장률은 1.5-3.0%공급구에서는 0.79-0.86%의 범위로 차이가 없었다. 어체분석결과 육질부비율은 전실험구에서, 간중량지수, 장중량지수 및 비만도는 1.0-3.0% 공급구에서 차이가 없었다. 혈액성상 분석결과 TP 및 TG는 전실험구에서, GOT, GPT, TG, GL 및 Ht는 1.0-3.0% 공급구에서 차이가 없었다. 이상의 결과로부터 조피볼락 1년생은 육상수조양식시 사육수온은 15-18$^{\circ}C$에서, 먹이공급량은 포식량의 약 70-80%가 적당한 것으로 사료된다.

Effects of Dietary Scutellaria baicalensis Extract on Growth, Feed Utilization and Challenge Test of Olive Flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus)

  • Effects of dietary Scutellaria baicalensis extract (SBE) on growth, feed utilization and challenge test of olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) were determined. Six hundred thirty fish averaging 5.0 g were distributed into 18, 180-L tanks. Six experimental diets were prepared in triplicate: SBE-0, SBE-0.5, SBE-1, SBE-2, SBE-3 and SBE-5 diets containing SBE at the concentrations of 0, 0.5, 1, 2, 3 and 5%, respectively. Fish were hand-fed to apparent satiation twice a day for 8 wks. At the end of 8-wk feeding trial, ten fish from each tank were infected by Edwardsiella tarda for challenge test. Survival and weight gain of fish were not affected by dietary concentrations of SBE. However, specific growth rate of fish fed the SBE-2 diet was higher than that of fish fed the SBE-0, SBE-1, SBE-3 and SBE-5 diets. Neither feed efficiency nor serum chemical composition of fish was affected by dietary concentrations of SBE. The cumulative mortality of fish fed the SBE-0 diet was 100% at 96 h after E. tarda infection, but 77 to 87% for fish fed the other diets. Dietary inclusion of 2% SBE appears to be recommendable to improve specific growth rate of fish and SBE had the potential to mitigate mortality of fish at E. tarda infection.

  • A feeding trial was conducted to investigate the effects of supplementation with four phosphorus (P) additives [mono-calcium phosphate (MCP), dicalcium phosphate (DCP), tricalcium phosphate (TCP) and magnesium hydrogen phosphate (MHP)] on the growth, feed utilization and whole body mineral composition of juvenile olive flounders Paralichthys olivaceus. A basal diet without P supplementation was prepared as a negative control and four supplemental P sources were added at a level of 2%. Triplicate groups of fish (initial mean body weight 11 g) were fed one of the experimental diets to apparent satiation twice a day, at 08:30 and 18:00 for 10 weeks. The final body weights of fish fed the experimental diets ranged from 29.4 g (DCP) to 34.2 g (MCP) and did not differ significantly (P>0.05) among treatments. Similar tendencies were found for all parameters including weight gain (%), specific growth rate (SGR), feed conversion ratio (FCR), protein efficiency ratio (PER), feed intake (FI) and survival rate (SR). The hematocrit (%), hemoglobin (g/dL), serum inorganic P and whole body mineral composition did not differ significantly different (P>0.05) among the treatments. Therefore, dietary P addition is not necessary for juvenile olive flounder fed a fish meal-based diet.

Effect of dietary protein and lipid level on growth, feed utilization, and muscle composition in golden mandarin fish Siniperca scherzeri

  • A feeding trial was designed to assess the effects of dietary protein and lipid content on growth, feed utilization efficiency, and muscle proximate composition of juvenile mandarin fish, Siniperca scherzeri. Six experimental diets were formulated with a combination of three protein (35, 45, and 55%) and two dietary lipid levels (7 and 14%). Each diet was fed to triplicate groups of fish ($8.3{\pm}0.1g$) to apparent satiation for 8 weeks. The results showed that growth performance in terms of weight gain (WG) and specific growth rate (SGR) increased with increasing dietary protein level from 35 to 55% at the same dietary lipid level. At the same dietary lipid content, WG and SGR obtained with diets containing 55% protein was significantly higher than those obtained with diets containing 45 and 35% protein. No significant effect on growth rate was found when the dietary level of lipid was increased from 7 to 14%. While the levels of protein and lipid in the diets had no significant effect on feed intake, other nutrient utilization efficiency parameters including daily protein intake (DPI), feed efficiency (FE), and protein efficiency ratio (PER) showed a similar trend to that of growth rates, with the highest values obtained with diets containing 55% protein. Muscle chemical composition was not significantly affected by the different dietary treatments for each dietary lipid or protein level tested. These findings may suggest that a practical diet containing 55% protein and 7% lipid provides sufficient nutrient and energy to support the acceptable growth rates and nutrient utilization of mandarin fish juveniles.

  • The effect of feeding frequency on growth performance, body nutrient composition, and hematological parameters of juvenile chum salmon Oncorhynchus keta was investigated. The juveniles (10.9±0.3 g) were fed commercial feed for 30 days with feeding frequencies of 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 meal (s)/day (n=2 tanks per treatment) in a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS). Fish were fed to satiation at each of the feeding frequencies. At the end of the feeding trial, final body weight, weight gain, and specific growth rate of fish fed 2 meals/day were significantly higher than those of fish fed 1 meal/day(P<0.05); however, no difference was detected among the other feeding frequencies. Daily feed intake significantly increased with increasing feeding frequency, whereas feed and protein utilization efficiencies continuously decreased with increase in the feeding frequency. Among the treatments, fish fed 1 meal/day showed the lowest value in whole-body lipid content and total protein concentration in plasma. Taken together, the optimal feeding frequency for growth performance and feed utilization efficiency in chum salmon juveniles reared in the RAS was determined to be 2 meals/day.

감성돔, Acanthopagrus schlegeli 치어의 성장과 생존에 미치는 외인성 3,5,3'-triiodo-L-thyronin ($T_3$) 효과 (Effects of Dietary 3,5,3'-Triiodo-L-Thyronine ($T_3$) on Growth and Survival Rate in Juvenile Black Seabream, Acanthopagrus Sclegeli)

  • 감성돔, A. schlegeli 자치어의 성장 및 생존에 미치는 3,5,3'-triiodo-L-thyronine($T_3$) 경구투여 효과를 파악하기 위해 $T_3$를 0, 10, 20, 50 및 100 ppm으로 사료에 섞어 경구 투여하였다. $T_3$ 경구투여에 따른 사료섭식률은 10 ppm구와 20 ppm구에서 대조구와 큰 차이가 없었지만, $T_3$ 투여량이 증가할수록 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. 그러나 사료효율의 경우 10 ppm구가 다른 실험구들에 비해 높았으나, 큰 차는 없었다. 생존율의 경우 100 ppm구가 대조구에 비해 높게 나타났으나, 그 외 처리구는 대조구와 차이를 보이지 않았다. 전장과 체중의 성장은 10 ppm 구가 다른 실험구보다도 높았고, 20 ppm구는 대조구와 거의 같은 수준에 있었으나, 50 ppm과 100 ppm구는 오히려 대조구보다도 느린 성장 경향을 나타내었다. 비만도는 대조구에서 가장 높은 수치를 보였으며, 10 ppm구를 비롯한 모든 $T_3$ 처리구가 대조구에 비해 유의하게 낮게 나타나, $T_3$ 투여량이 많아짐에 따라 비만도가 낮아지는 경향을 나타내었다.
