  • The oriental melon poses challenges in terms of long-term storage and distribution. Addressing these issues requires an extension of the storage life through appropriate processing. In this study, pretreated hot-air dried oriental melon slices (steamed and freeze-thawed) were prepared, and their physicochemical and organoleptic properties were examined. The control group (CON) consisted of hot-air dried oriental melon slices without pretreatment, while the steamed group (STG) and freeze-thawed group (FTG) consisted of hot-air dried oriental melon slices pretreated using steaming and freeze-thawing methods, respectively. The moisture contents detected in the CON, STG, and FTG groups ranged from 15.96% to 27.30%, with variations of 7.53 to 8.40 °Brix for the soluble solid contents. The CON group showed the highest Hunter color value for lightness (L*) and the lowest value for redness (a*). The texture profile analysis revealed the highest hardness and chewiness in the order of STG > CON > FTG. Considerable differences were observed in springiness and adhesiveness in the FTG group compared to the other groups. The organoleptic evaluation showed that the CON group had the highest sensory scores for overall preference. These findings indicate that the properties of hot-air dried oriental melon slices were influenced by physical pretreatments and that manufacturing these slices without pretreatment is the most effective method in terms of processing simplicity and cost efficiency.

  • PURPOSE: This study compared the effect of the muscle energy technique (MET) and stretching technique on ankle dorsiflexion passive range of motion, balance, and gait ability of stroke patients with limited ankle dorsiflexion. METHODS: Forty-four post-stroke patients participated. The participants were randomized into the MET group (METG; n = 22) and the stretching group (STG; n = 22). The METG was subjected to the MET to relax the dorsiflexion, while the STG was subjected to the dorsiflexion stretching technique. Both groups completed standard neurological physical therapy for 30 min per session. The intervention was conducted five times a week over 3 weeks for a total of 15 times. All participants underwent ankle dorsiflexion passive range of motion measurement and Berg Balance Scale score determination and completed a 10-m walking test and the timed up and go test before and after the intervention. RESULTS: After the 3-week intervention, both groups showed significant improvement after the intervention (p < .05). METG participants showed greater improvements in ankle dorsiflexion passive range of motion and 10-m walking test results compared to STG participants (p < .05). CONCLUSION: Both interventions improved ankle dorsiflexion passive range of motion, balance, and gait ability in stroke patients with limited ankle dorsiflexion. Moreover, the MET was superior to ankle dorsiflexion passive range of motion on the 10-m walking test.

  • Ghost cells have been recognized as eliciting humoral and cell-mediated immune responses and have also been predicted to play a role as an immune adjuvant. In this study, we used the intramuscular (IM) route to inject BALB/c mice with four vaccine groups constructed from Salmonella typhimurium ghost (STG) cells originating from different virulent strains and complex STG groups instead of heat-labile toxin (LT)-B, a type of adjuvant. Although the complex STG groups exhibited a response after a short delay, the groups showed final total IgG levels similar to those of the LT-B group, which encodes LT-B from pMMP300. The IgG1 response to the ${\chi}$3339 group was the highest response at 6 weeks, whereas IgG2a responses to the ${\chi}$3339 and JOL389 groups were higher at 6 and 8 weeks compared to those of the LT-B group. The response of vaginal sIgA to the LT-B group was generally higher than that of the other groups, whereas fecal sIgA to the LT-B group exhibited lower responses. Protection to virulent S. typhimurium in all groups was above 80%, which was similar to the LT-B group. Taken together, we suggest that STG complex groups can be used as an immune adjuvant instead of LT-B.

  • We investigated the brain activity in perceiving the emotional stimuli between a science invention group(n=13) and a general group(n=13). The science invention group, which mostly consisted of recipients of creativity prizes, scored 96% on creative personality tests(WKOPAY, SAM), whereas the general group performed at an average level on these tests. Analyzing the brain activity in perceiving the emotional stimuli(IAPS pictures), the science invention group than the general group showed higher activity in certain areas, such as MTG, STG, and so on. When correlation analysis was performed on the creative personality score and brain activity, MTG, STG, and so on areas showed significant correlations. There were more correlation areas in valence than in arousal. These results show that scientific creativity is related to emotional susceptibility. Thus, we insist that emotion be considered in the assessment and education programs for the gifted in science.

  • We propose a systematic method of compiling Haskell based on the spineless Tagless G-machine (STGM) for the Java, Virtual Machine (JVM) We introduce an intermediate language called L-code to identify each micro-operation of the machine by its instruction, Each macro operation of the machine is identified by a binding Each instruction of the L-code can be easily translated into Java statements. After our determination on representation and L-code program from a STG program is translated into Java program according to out compilation rules. Our experiment shows that the execution times of translated benchmarks are competitive compared with those in Haskell interpreter Hugs, particularly when Glasgow Haskell compiler's STG -level optimizations are applied.

  • This paper describes a study on the automatic generation system of the interface for communication among AMBA bus and IPs with different protocols. Employing an extended STG, the proposed system generates the interface modules required for the communication among IPs with different protocols. For an example system, the interface module for communication between AMBA AHB bus and a video decoder has been generated and verified in its functionality. The area and latency have been compared with the manually designed interface. For burst-mode communication, the generated interface module shows the comparable performance with the manually designed module. For single-mode communication, the generated interface module shows a slightly worse performance than the manually designed module. However, the increased area is negligible considering the size of the IP.

  • The concrete inside the steel tube of CFT columns enables them to have great strength and ductility. CFT columns are also excellent in fire-resistance because explosive heat upon a fire can be contained in the tube by the concrete debris. However, the studies to evaluate the residual strength of CFT columns after a fire have not been conducted enough. The studies to evaluate the residual strength of CFT columns after a fire are indispensable because it is the barometer of the damage of composite columns caused by a fire and the degree of repair and reinforcement work for the columns after a fire. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the deterioration of load capacity and structural behavior of square CFT columns with the same shapes and boundary conditions before and after a fire. The study also evaluates the influential factors of the CFT columns reinforced to secure the residual strength after a fire.

  • Software testing is an important phase as it ensures the software quality. The software testing process comprises of three steps: generation, execution, and evaluation of test cases. Literature claims the usage of single and multiple 'Unified Modeling Language' (UML) diagrams to generate test cases. Using multiple UML diagrams increases test case coverage. However, the existing approaches show limitations in test case generation from UML diagrams. Therefore, in this research study, we propose an approach to generate the test cases using UML State Chart Diagram (SCD), Activity Diagram (AD), and Sequence Diagram (SD). The proposed approach transforms UML diagrams into intermediate forms: SCD Graph, AD Graph, and SD Graph respectively. Furthermore, by integrating these three graphs, a System Testing Graph (STG) is formed. Finally, test cases are identified from STG by using a traversal algorithm such as Depth First Search (DFS) that is an optimization method. The results show that the proposed approach is better compared to existing approaches in terms of coverage and performance. Moreover, the generated test cases have the ability to detect faults at the unit level, integration, and system level testing.

  • Virus-free stocks was produced by the combination of the heat treatment of virus infected plant and shoot-tip grafting (STS). To produce virus-free stocks, the plants infected with citrus viruses were used for virus-free stock production using the modified method of STG in thermotherapy at $40^{\circ}C$ for 16 hours in the light, and at $30^{\circ}C$ for 8 hours of darkness for 4 weeks. Trifoliate orange (P. trifoliata) were used as rootstock seedling for STG. Percentages of virus-free stocks against citrus tristeza virus (CTV), satsuma dwarf virus (SDV) and citrus tatter leaf virus (CTLV) were $75.7\%,\;100.0,\%\;82.6\%$ respectively. Shoot tip size for successful STG were as small as possible. Less than $0.3\;\cal{mm}$ of shoot tips gave the hight efficiency of virus free plants but survival rates were low. And, survival rate after shoot-tip culture was analyzed and the rates were dependant on the cultivars; Yuzu cultivar showed the hight survival rate ($74.6\%$) and early satsuma mandarin (Iwasagi) was $13.3\%$ as the lowest cultivar. But citrus trees were not succeed to grown, turned brown, and died.
