TYPHOON EFFECTS ON THE SHORT-TERM VARIATION OF SST AND CHLOROPHYLL A IN THE EAST/JAPAN SEA DERIVED FROM SATELLITE REMOTE SENSING

  • The short-term variation of sea surface temperature before and after typhoons and increase of chlorophyll a concentration that accompany with the typhoons during summer in the East/Japan Sea were explored by satellite. Four typhoons (NAMTHEUN, MEGI, CHABA and SONGDA) and a typhoon (NABI) passed over the East/Japan Sea in 2004 and 2005, respectively. Decreasing of SST was observed in the every five typhoons, however the magnitude of SST decreasing were various from 1 to $5^{\circ}C$. Chlorophyll a increases were found after the typhoons (0.1-3 ${\mu}g$ $l^{-1})$ except NAMTHEUN, and the area was approximately included in SST decreasing area by the typhoons. It suggests that chlorophyll a increase was caused by nutrient input from subsurface layer by strong mixing. On the other hand, rarely chlorophyll a increase was observed in northern area of polar frontal zone, which is located in $38-41^{\circ}N$, than northern area, and chlorophyll a increase in coastal area was higher (more than 3 times) than offshore area. It might suggest that chlorophyll a increase in the East/Japan Sea is also related with the depth or nitracline depth that affects the amount of nutrients supply to the upper layer by typhoon mixing.

풍력터빈 전산유체역학해석에서 비균일 그리드 무차원 연직거리의 난류모델에 대한 영향특성 (A Study on the y+ Effects on Turbulence Model of Unstructured Grid for CFD Analysis of Wind Turbine)

  • This paper presents the dimensionless wall distance, y+ effect on SST turbulent model for wind turbine blade. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Phase VI wind turbine was used for the study, which the wind tunnel and structural test data has publicly available. The near wall treatment and turbulent characteristics have important role for proper CFD simulation. Most of the CFD development in this area is focused on advanced turbulence model closures including second moment closure models, and so called Low-Reynolds (low-Re) number and two-layer turbulence models. However, in many cases CFD aerodynamic predictions based on these standard models still show a large degree of uncertainty, which can be attributed to the use of the $\epsilon$-equation as the turbulence scale equation and the associated limitations of the near wall treatment. The present paper demonstrates the y+ definition effect on SST (Shear Stress Transport) turbulent model with advanced automatic near wall treatment model and Gamma theta transitional model for transition from lamina to turbulent flow using commercial ANSYS-CFX. In all cases the SST model shows to be superior, as it gives more accurate predictions and is less sensitive to grid variations.

PREDICTION OF A HEAT TRANSFER TO CO2 FLOWING IN AN UPWARD PATH AT A SUPERCRITICAL PRESSURE

  • This study was performed to evaluate the prediction capability of a commercial CFD code and to investigate the effects of different geometries such as a 4.4 mm tube and an 8/10 mm annular channel on the detailed flow structures. A numerical simulation was performed for the conditions, at which the experimental data was produced by the test facility SPHINX. A 2-dimensional axisymmetric steady flow was assumed for computational simplicity. The RNG $\kappa-\varepsilon$ turbulence model (RNG) with an enhanced wall treatment option, SST $\kappa-\omega$ (SST) and low Reynolds Abid turbulence model (ABD) were employed and the numerical predictions were compared with the experimental data generated from the experiment. The effects of the geometry on heat transfer were investigated. The flow and temperature fields were also examined in order to investigate the mechanism of heat transfer near the wall. The local heat transfer coefficient predicted by the RNG model is very close to the measurement result for the tube. In contrast, the local heat transfer coefficient predicted by the SST and ABD models is closer to the measurement for the annular channel.

A Study on Service Encounter Quality: Interpersonal Service vs. Self-Service Technology in the Fashion Retail Stores

  • This study was to identify underlying dimensions of service encounter quality, to test difference in service encounter quality between interpersonal service(IPS) and self-service technology(SST) and to predict service effectiveness and behavioral intentions in the fashion retail context. A field experimental study was designed for collecting data. Repeat sampling frames were involved in two types of service encounters: interpersonal service and self-service technology within the store environment. Thirty participants served as subjects. Sample represents more females than males, and age was ranged from 20 to 33 years old (Mean=24.2). The result suggested that service encounter quality consisted of competence, dedication, and listening. There was a significant mean difference on listening factor of service encounter quality between IPS and SST. For the interpersonal service, dedication and listening had significant effects on service effectiveness. For the self-service technology, competence and listening had significant effects on service effectiveness. In the IPS condition, the service effectiveness significantly affected the revisit intention, whereas it was not significantly related to the revisit intention in the SST condition. This study discussed managerial implications for fashion retailers seeking to effectively manage service quality by specifying interpersonal service versus self-service technology in the retail environments.

Effects of Inlet Turbulence Conditions and Near-wall Treatment Methods on Heat Transfer Prediction over Gas Turbine Vanes

  • This paper investigates the effects of inlet turbulence conditions and near-wall treatment methods on the heat transfer prediction of gas turbine vanes within the range of engine relevant turbulence conditions. The two near-wall treatment methods, the wall-function and low-Reynolds number method, were combined with the SST and ${\omega}RSM$ turbulence model. Additionally, the RNG $k-{\varepsilon}$, SSG RSM, and $SST_+{\gamma}-Re_{\theta}$ transition model were adopted for the purpose of comparison. All computations were conducted using a commercial CFD code, CFX, considering a three-dimensional, steady, compressible flow. The conjugate heat transfer method was applied to all simulation cases with internally cooled NASA turbine vanes. The CFD results at mid-span were compared with the measured data under different inlet turbulence conditions. In the SST solutions, on the pressure side, both the wall-function and low-Reynolds number method exhibited a reasonable agreement with the measured data. On the suction side, however, both wall-function and low-Reynolds number method failed to predict the variations of heat transfer coefficient and temperature caused by boundary layer flow transition. In the ${\omega}RSM$ results, the wall-function showed reasonable predictions for both the heat transfer coefficient and temperature variations including flow transition onset on suction side, but, low-Reynolds methods did not properly capture the variation of the heat transfer coefficient. The $SST_+{\gamma}-Re_{\theta}$ transition model showed variation of the heat transfer coefficient on the transition regions, but did not capture the proper transition onset location, and was found to be much more sensitive to the inlet turbulence length scale. Overall, the Reynolds stress model and wall function configuration showed the reasonable predictions in presented cases.

GCI 를 이용한 수직분사제트 수치모사의 검증 및 확인 (Verification and Validation of the Numerical Simulation of Transverse Injection Jets using Grid Convergence Index)

  • 초음속 주 유동으로의 수직분사에 의해 생성되는 2차원 정상상태 유동장에 대한 수치모사를 수행하였다. 난류효과를 위해서 무차원 벽면거리($y^+$)를 고려한 2방정식 k-${\omega}$ SST 모델을 사용하였다. 또한 격자계에 따른 오차범위를 나타내는 방법으로 GCI(Gird Convergence Index)를 사용하여 해의 수렴성을 측정하였다. 표면 압력분포, 박리거리, 침투높이 등에 대해 실험결과 및 다른 난류모델을 이용한 결과들과 비교하였다. k-${\omega}$ SST 난류모델은 낮은 압력비에 대해서 표면 압력분포 및 박리거리 등을 정확하게 예측하였다. 그러나 압력비가 증가함에 따라 수치적 예측이 실험결과와 차이를 보이고 있다. 상기한 모든 결과는 격자계에 따른 해의 수렴성의 오차범위 1% 이내에서 측정되었다.

동계 서해의 해황과 기상인자와의 관계 (A Relationship between Oceanic Conditions and Meteorological Factors in the Western Sea of Korea in Winter)

  • 동계 서해에서 해황과 기상인자와의 상호 관련성에 대해서 조사하였다. 수온의 수평분포는 수심이 얕은 연악역이 외해역보다 저수온으로 12월과 2월사이에 외해역에서 $3^{\circ}C$, 연안역에서는 $6^{\circ}C$ 정도의 큰 수온 하강을 보였다. 염분의 분포는 북쪽해역이 연안역과 남쪽해역보다 저농도를 보였다. 또한, 하계에 남북방향으로 형성되었던 등염선이 동계에는 북서에서 남동 방향으로 형성한다. 한국 서해연안의 기온과 연안의 표층수온 사이에는 기온이 상승하면 수온이 상승하고 기온이 하강하면 수온도 하강하는 정의 상관관계를 보인다. 서해 외해의 표층수온은 잠열속과 현열속에 의한 해양에서의 방출열량과 역의 상관관계를 보인다. 동계 서해 연안지역 기온과 연안역 표층염분과의 관계는 기온이 상승하면 연안역의 염분이 증가하고, 수온이 하강하면 염분이 낮아지는 정의 상관관계를 보인다. 또한 서해의 하계($6{\sim}9$월) 강수량은 10월과 12월보다 다음해 동계 2월의 염분분포에 크게 영향을 미치고 있다.

Up-regulation of NHE8 by somatostatin ameliorates the diarrhea symptom in infectious colitis mice model

  • $Na^+/H^+$ exchangers (NHEs) have been shown to be involved in regulating cell volume and maintaining fluid and electrolyte homeostasis. Pooled evidences have suggested that loss of $Na^+/H^+$ exchanger isoform 8 (NHE8) impairs intestinal mucosa. Whether NHE8 participates in the pathology of infectious colitis is still unknown. Our previous study demonstrated that somatostatin (SST) could stimulate the expression of intestinal NHE8 so as to facilitate $Na^+$ absorption under normal condition. This study further explored whether NHE8 participates in the pathological processes of infectious colitis and the effects of SST on intestinal NHE8 expression in the setting of infectious colitis. Our data showed that NHE8 expression was reduced in Citrobacter rodentium (CR) infected mice. Up-regulation of NHE8 improved diarrhea symptom and mucosal damage induced by CR. In vitro, a similar observation was also seen in Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infected Caco-2 cells. Seglitide, a SST receptor (SSTR) 2 agonist, partly reversed the inhibiting action of EPEC on NHE8 expression, but SSTR5 agonist (L-817,818) had no effect on the expression of NHE8. Moreover, SST blocked the phosphorylation of p38 in EPEC-infected Caco-2 cells. Taken together, these results suggest that enhancement of intestinal NHE8 expression by SST could ameliorate the symptoms of mice with infectious colitis.

근력강화운동이 회전근개 부분 파열환자의 기능과 통증에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Muscle Strengthening Exercises on Function and Pain for Rotator Cuff Partial Tear Patients)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of muscle strengthening exercise on shoulder function and pain for rotator cuff tear patients. Method: The subjects of this study, partial tear of the rotator cuff diagnosed patients, twelve patients were picked up, who were agreed with this research. The twelve patients received muscle strengthening exercise for 4 weeks, which consisted of 5 times per week, 40 min of supervised exercise program. Shoulder function and pain, measured by ROM, CMS, SST, PPT and VAS. Result: In comparison of VAS, PPT and ROM, CMS, SST were showed a more improved after intervention. Conclusion: Therefore, muscle strengthening exercise is useful to improve the shoulder function and pain for rotator cuff tear patients.

초등학교 저학년 대상 ADHD 단독군, 동반 질환을 가진 ADHD군에서의 10회기 사회기술 훈련의 효과 비교 (Compared Effectiveness of 10-Session Social Skill Training for Korean Early Elementary School Children in Two Groups Diagnosed as Pure ADHD and ADHD with Comorbidity)

  • Objectives : Children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) have problems in social interactions. We compared the effect of 10-session social skill training (SST) among two groups, children with pure ADHD, and those with ADHD with comorbidity. Methods : Consecutive 10-session SST was conducted for 34 children from 2006 to 2012. There were 22 children with pure ADHD (male 20, female 2), and 12 children suffering from ADHD with comorbidity (male 11, female 1). All children took medication as prescribed by their doctors before the start of SST. The Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL), the Korean Personality Inventory for Children (K-PIC), the Conner's Rating Scale, the ADHD Rating Scale, and the Home Situation Questionnaire were completed by mothers before and after the SST. All children completed the Child Depression Inventory, the Stat-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children, the Self-Concept Scale and the ADHD Diagnostic System before and after the SST. Results : Only children with pure ADHD showed improvement in anxiety and self-concept in scales rated by children. In the CBCL rated by parents, the pure ADHD group and the ADHD with comorbidity showed improvement in both externalizing and internalizing subscales. In the K-PIC rated by parents, the pure ADHD group showed improvement in most outcomes and ADHD with comorbidity showed positive change in verbal development. Conclusion : These results suggest that SST has significant positive effects on both the pure ADHD and ADHD with comorbidity group. Further research is needed in order to target diverse comorbidity groups with ADHD to improve the effectiveness of the SST.
