  • The bubbles could be created from multiple source in the surface of ocean. The bubbles which are created like this affect to the intensity and the sound speed of acoustic wave which are used from the ocean. From the research, it observed Reverberation from the sea surface, using Vbeam transmission and reception equipment that was a cross-shaped Array, from 2008 July 2nd to July 3rd at 4Km from the East Sea Mookho port. It is difficult to analyze data because the received signal has ambient noise and occurrence ISI(Inter Symbol Interference) for multipath. This paper remove that ambient noise and ISI using the directions of arrival beamforming and the filter and sum beamforming. After beamforming, a following DFE(Decision Feedback Equalizer) removes the remaining multipath components. Experimental results show that the proposed technique reduce the errors caused by ISI.

  • Because video sequence consists of dynamic objects in nature, the object motion in video is an effective feature in describing the contents of video sequence and motion feature plays an important role in video retrieval. In this paper, we propose a method that converts motion vectors (MVs) to a uniform set on MPEG coded domain, independent of the frame type and the direction of prediction, and utilizes these normalized MVs (N-MVs) as motion descriptor to understand video contents. We describe a frame-type independent representation of the various types of frames presented in an MPEG video in which all frames can be considered equivalently, without full-decoding. In the experiments, we show that the proposed method is better than the conventional one in terms of performance.

  • This paper presents face recognition using vector quantization in the eigenspace of the faces. The existing eigenface method is not enough for representing the variations of faces. For making up for its defects, the proposed method use a clustering of feature vectors by vector quantization in eigenspace of the faces. In the trainning stage, the face images are transformed the points in the eigenspace by eigeface(eigenvetor) and we represent a set of points for each people as the centroids of vector quantizer. In the recognition stage, the vector quantizer finds the centroid having the minimum quantization error between feature vector of input image and centriods of database. The experiments are performed by 600 faces in Faces94 database. The existing eigenface method has minimum 64 miss-recognition and the proposed method has minimum 20 miss-recognition when we use 4 codevectors. In conclusion, the proposed method is a effective method that improves recognition rate through overcoming the variation of faces.

  • In order to generate the gray scale image by the binary state imaging devices such as a digital printer, the gray scale image needs to be converted into the binary image by the halftoning techniques. This paper presents a new error diffusion technique to achieve the homogeneous dot distributions on the binary images. In this paper,'the minimum pixel distance'from the current pixel under binarization to the nearest minor pixel is defined first. Also, the gray levels of the input image are converted into a new variable based on the principal distance for the error diffusion. In the proposed method, the difference in the principal distances is utilized for the error propagation, whereas the gray level difference due to the binarization is diffused to the neighboring pixels in the existing error diffusion techniques. The quantization is accomplished by comparing the updated principal distance with the minimum pixel distance. In order to calculate the minimum pixel distance, MPOA(Minor Pixel Offset Array) is employed to reduce the computational loads and memory resources.

  • This paper proposes a new algorithm that detects and separates the occluding and occluded objects in a 2D image. An input image is represented by the attributed graph where a node corresponds to a surface and an arc connecting two nodes describes the adjacency of the nodes in the image. Each end of arc is weighted by relation value which tells the number of edges connected to the surface represented by the node in the opposite side of the arc. In attributed graph, homogeneous nodes pertained to a same object always construct one of three special patterns which can be simply classified by comparison of relation values of the arcs. The experimental results have shown that the proposed algorithm efficiently separates the objects overlapped arbitrarily, and that this approach of separating objects before matching operation reduces the matching time significantly by simplifying the matching problem of overlapped objects as the one of individual single object.

  • In this paper, we propose a channel estimation of side information method based received motion vectors for distributed video coding. The proposed decoder estimates motion vectors of side information and transmits it to the encoder. As the proposed encoder generates side information which is the same to one in the decoder with received motion vectors, accuracy of side information of the decoder is assessed and it is transmitted to decoder. The proposed decoder can also estimate accurate crossover probability with received error information. As the proposed method conducts correct belief propagation, computational complexity of the channel decoder decreases and error correction capability is significantly improved with the smaller amount of parity bits. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is better in rate-distortion performance and it is faster than several conventional distributed video coding methods.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient object detection and classification algorithm for video surveillance applications. Previous researches mainly concentrated either on object detection or classification using particular type of feature e.g., Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) or Speeded Up Robust Feature (SURF) etc. In this paper we propose an algorithm that mutually performs object detection and classification. We combinedly use heterogeneous types of features such as texture and color distribution from local patches to increase object detection and classification rates. We perform object detection using spatial clustering on interest points, and use Bag of Words model and Naive Bayes classifier respectively for image representation and classification. Experimental results show that our combined feature is better than the individual local descriptor in object classification rate.

  • In this paper, we propose a feature extraction method for iris recognition using wavelet transforms. The wavelet transform is fast and has a good localization characteristic. In particular, the low frequency band can be used as an effective feature vector. In iris recognition, the noise caused by eyelid the eyebrow, glint, etc may be included in iris. The iris pattern is distorted by noises by itself, and a feature extraction algorithm based on filter such as Wavelets, Gabor transform spreads noises into whole iris region. Namely, such noises degrade the performance of iris recognition systems a major problem. This kind of noise has adverse effect on performance. In order to solve these problems, we propose to divide the iris image into a number of sub-region and apply the wavelet transform to each sub-region. Experimental results show that the performance of proposed method is comparable to existing methods using Gabor transform and region division noticeably improves recognition performance. However, it is noted that the processing time of the wavelet transform is much faster than that of the existing methods.

  • Most of deblocking filters assumes that the block boundaries are accurately known and the coding information like quantization parameters are available. In some applications such as commercial television, however, many external video inputs without known block boundary and coding information arc given. If a decompressed video sequence heavily degraded with blocking artifacts is given through the external video port, it is absolutely necessary to detect block boundaries and control the strength of deblocking filtering by analysing the given images. This paper presents an efficient method to find the block boundaries and estimate the strength of the blocking artifacts without the knowledge of coding information. In addition, the confidence of the estimated blocking artifact information is also evaluated to control the adaptive deblocking filter robustly. Experiment results show that the estimated block boundary locations and strength relative strength and confidence information are practically good enough to reduce the blocking artifacts without prior knowledge.

  • Conventional algorithms of separating overlapped objects are mostly based on template matching methods and thus their application domain is restricted to 2D objects and the processing time increases when the number of templates (object models) does. To solve these problems, this paper proposes a new approach of separating the occluding object from the stack of 3D objects using the relationship between surfaces without any information on the objects. The proposed algorithm considers an object as a combination of surfaces which are consisted with a set of boundary edges. Overlap of 3D objects appears as overlap of surfaces and thus as crossings of edges in 2D image. Based on this observation, the types of edge crossings are classified from which the types of overlap of 3D objects can be identified. The relationships between surfaces are represented by an attributed graph where the types of overlaps are represented by relation values. Using the relation values, the surfaces pertained to the same object are discerned and the overlapping object on the top of the stack can be separated. The performance of the proposed algorithm has been proved by the experiments using the overlapped images of 3D objects selected among the standard industrial parts.
