The field of ground amelioration, many construction methods have been developed more prosperously up to now, but even now, the majority focuses on the improvement of ground strength. And they could not suggest concrete solutions to the occurrence of environmental issues. To address this problem, soil improvement methods employing organic acid materials have recently been developed as eco-friendly technologies for increasing the soil strength, but details regarding the basic stabilization mechanism are not known yet. Against this background, this research was conducted to examine the soil stabilization mechanism; for this purpose, unconfined compressive strength and pH tests were conducted by using an improved eco-friendly organic acid material. The test results revealed that the samples processed with the organic acid showed a considerable increase in the unconfined compressive strength over time as compared to the strength of the samples that were processed without the organic acid. It was also confirmed that the organic acid material promoted microbial breeding and improved the soil structure by reducing the volume of the voids in the soil. Therefore, the sustainable development of this method needs to be analysed more in the future.

This study investigates enzyme stabilization in clay-rock bricks through mechanical tests and image processing. Appropriate soil mixtures were designed using clay/crushed rock with ratios of 70/30, 60/40, 50/50, 40/60, and 30/70 by weight to verify the strength of the enzyme brick and soil compaction. The maximum compressive and flexural strengths in the 60/40 ratio mixture were found to be 5MPa and 1.25MPa, respectively; however, the maximum dry unit weight of $2.073g/cm^3$ was found in the 50/50 clay/gravel ratio mixture. Generally, the strength of the enzyme brick was improved by 27%. The paper concludes that in order to achieve optimal strength, soils should be mixed with the 60/40 clay/gravel ratio, which provides an adequate strength, while 50/50 ratio should be used for achieving more compaction. The SEM-EDX observation and Matlab image processing verified how the bond structure appeared after enzyme stabilization. It was found that enzymes created bond with the clay soil and the crushed rock for rendering strength and stability.

Although the demands for the dredging work have been increasing due to social and industrial reasons including national plan for restoration of four major rivers, environmental standards or management guidelines for the dredged river sediment are limited. The suggested environmental standard for the beneficial use of dredged river sediment consists of two levels, recyclable and concern, and includes eight contaminants such as metals and organic contaminants. The systematic approach to remediate dredged river sediment is also suggested. The system consists of both washing and stabilization processes with continuous multi particle separation. In the early stage, the sediments are separated into two particle sizes. The coarse-grained sediment over 0.075 mm, generally decontaminated with less trouble, follows normal washing steps and is sent for recycling. The fine-grained sediments under 0.075 mm are separated again at 0.025 mm. The particles bigger than this second separation point are treated in two ways, advanced washing for highly contaminated sediments and stabilization for less. The lab test results show that birnessite and apatite are most effective stabilizing agents among tested for Cd and Pb. The most fine residues, down-sized by continuous particle separation, are finally sent for disposal. The system is tested for metals in this study, but is expected to be effective for organic contaminants included in the environmental standard, such as PAH and PCE. The feasibility test on the field site will be followed.

This study was carried out to suggest the slope revegetation technology of biological engineering using the Ligustrum obtusifolium, which is one of the pioneer plant species. Ahead of the experimental construction, we evaluated the L. obtusifolium's value of biological engineering for the slope stabilization by testing the growth rate after the cuttings were buried for 8 weeks('98. 7. ~ '98. 9.). In this test, it was found that the L. obtusifolium, one of the species deep rooted with developed underground parts, is very effective for the slope stabilization and that the rooting powder(Hormex Powder) gave the better effects on root germination. In April of 1999, the experimental construction of biological engineering technology using recycled L. obtusifolium live cuttings(applied growth-stimulating compound) and green bags was conducted at sandy cut-slope in GLEN ROSS G.C.(Yongin). The slope was tolerant of soil erosion despite of heavy rainfall in the rainy season and many plant species invading for five months('99. 4. ~ '99. 9.). The vegetation research was performed through examining the frequency of each block using the transect method. 21 kinds of plant speices appeared in total area($25.5m^2$) and the dominant species are Digitaria sanguinalis, Setaria viridis, Cyperus amuricus, Persicaria blumei, Artemisia princeps var. orientalis. With regard to life forms, therophytes were shown with a dominant distribution of 66.7% of total species and neophytes relatively with a low distribution of 19.0%. Furthermore, it can be estimated that there is no ecological stabilization of this slope with the result of the ruderal species' occupation of 71.4%. It is too early to argue about ecological mechanical advantages and disadvantages of this technology, but, from the result of this study, it is expected that the slope revegetation technology of biological engineering using L. obtusifolium can be effectively applied to sandy slope(not rock or weathered rock slope) and that the early rapid stabilization and favorable succession could be done with the improvement of soil condition.
Soil nailing technique is being widely used for stabilization of vertical cuts because of its economic, environment friendly and speedy construction. Global stability and lateral displacement are the two important stability criteria for the soil nail walls. The primary objective of the present study is to evaluate soil nail wall stability criteria under the influence of in-situ soil variability. Finite element based numerical experiments are performed in accordance with the methodology of $2^3$ factorial design of experiments. Based on the analysis of the observations from numerical experiments, two regression models are developed, and used for reliability analyses of global stability and lateral displacement of the soil nail wall. A 10 m high prototype soil nail wall is considered for better understanding and to highlight the practical implications of the present study. Based on the study, lateral displacements beyond 0.10% of vertical wall height and variability of in-situ soil parameters are found to be critical from the stability criteria considerations of the soil nail wall.
The fire area need management to prevent enlargement of collapes and sinkage. and it need that repair Vegetation sack work, Soil arresting structure, Terrace-sodding works, Direct seeding works in greening works and Water cushion in erosion control dam. The whole of the Concrete stream grade stabilization structures were broken, it need to be repair. As pass the time, a lot of structures were abandoned. Therefore, it need to reorganize erosion control structures and the method of construction in the fire area

The stabilization and reclamation of old disposal sites is becoming more important as significant numbers of disposal sites are closed and abandoned. This technical paper covers an overview of the key issues and methodologies for stabilizing and constructing facilities on old landfills. The slide portion of this presentation also include photographs showing actual construction activities. The key issues that are prevalent in remediating and closing old landfills are : correcting the stormwater flow, leachate breakout, constructing cover caps, controlling landfill gas migration and odors, cleanup groundwater and stabilizing side slopes. Some key techniques for constructing facilities on old landfills include: use of piling, installation of active landfill gas systems, providing LFG barriers under buildings, using utilidors and flexible utility interfaces and designing for site settlement. This Paper provides proven conceptual methods for solving these problems.

In case of soil nailing system, there have been many attempts to expand into slope and temporary earth retaining system stabilization method since the first ground excavation earth retaining system construction in 1993. Recently, jointing wall, underground wall of buildings and excavation earth retaining wall, construction were increasingly applied for effective utilization of the limited underground space and land application maximized. However, the application of joining wall into retaining wall or building by temporary soil nailing system and design of permanent wall were performed by using Rankine earth pressure theory without considering the distribution of earth pressure in the soil nailing. In this study was performed to introduce the design case by 'Two-Body Translation mechanism (TBTM)' to be able to consider distribution of earth pressure in the soil nailing when designing the permanent jointing wall using soil nailing system for effective utilization of ground space. Also, this study attempts to evaluate the earth pressure change, decreasing effect of wall displacement and increasing effect of stability when advanced soil nailing system is constructed using $FLAC^{2D}$${\nu}er.$ 3.30 program and 'Two-Body Translation mechanism'.

Recently, as large constructions on the coast are performed frequently, surface layer stabilization method which Is one of the improvement methods for dredged soft clay has been applied. However, there have been few studies about the surface layer stabilization method. The purpose of this study is to clarify characteristics of ultra-soft marine clay and hardening agent. Also, optimal mixture ratio of hardening agent was verified through the laboratory tests such as statistical analysis and pilot tests. Laboratory tests were performed with proper hardening agent and test soil and standard mixing tables of hardening agent were determined according to ground conditions through statistical analysis. Also, applicability of surface layer stabilization method to field was verified by pilot tests. From the results of the tests, it was found that hardening agent materials such as cement, slag, fly-ash, inorganic salts, arwin, gypsum etc. affect on the appearing compressive strength. It was defined optimal mixture ratio which satisfies the required compressive strength from the statistical analysis. Also, It was compared the effect of ground improvement by cements and hardening agents through the pilot tests. This study will serve as data for design or construction criteria of stabilization of surface layer on ultra-soft marine clay.

Soil is the fundamental element in the construction process. Soil problems affect the safety of the structures, even so the high quality of the structures and so, bad soil found the structures will affect the lifetime or even destroy the structures built on it. Therefore, the study of soil is an important step in the construction process and the investigation of the most effective characteristics of a special kind of soil (shale soil), i.e. Atterberg limits, swelling pressure, swelling potential and unconfined compression strength, are the most effective soil properties. A big projects will be constructed in new urban extension areas with expansive shale soils, like at Al-Kawamil and new Akhmim shale soils which associated with soil problems, treatment system should be used to ensure the stability of the soil under the structures foundations one of the most effective methods is by adding lime solution to the soil by specific quantities, which affect on the properties of the shale soil by decreasing the swelling and increasing the compressive strength of the treatment soils. Experimenting with the soil added to the lime, it was found that the addition of lime solution 6% improve c j the properties of the soil. The results of the tests showed the high effectiveness of using lime in the treatment of Al-Kawamil soil
