This work aims to establish the landscape ecological countermeasures to improve the sustainability of urban mountain forest and to enrich the biodiversity in twenty mountains of the Seoul Metropolitan City. Landscape ecological analysis was conducted based upon various criteria, such as area and elevation of mountains, flora, naturalized plants, vegetation, forest types, mountain trails, and public facilities. Various measures were suggested for the better maintenances of floristic diversity, introduced plants, vegetation and forest types of urban mountain forests. Sustainable recommendations for land use adminstration were developed for the preparations of a climate change-adapted urban mountain forests, as well as rational managements of ecosystem, walking trails, and public facilities within mountain forest. Rich and diverse natural vegetation as well as high floristic diversity were reported at mountains with higher elevations, larger area size, and rich landscape diversity. Mountains with low elevation, small size with easy public access, however, might require an urgent action to decrease the burdens by anthropogenic disturbances and urban development.

Recently, the interest in the smart buildings is increasing in the architecture field. Among them, a research of facade design using a transformable system that can adjust the effect of the external environment is in progress. One of a typical example of the deployable system is a Scissors system that can change shape by using the geometric conditions of a unit member. Scissors system is a high-tech structural system which can construct the deployable plan and curved space by using the SLE (Scissors-Like Element) consisted of two Bar and Pivot. If the facade is designed by applying Scissors system, it is possible to maximize the performance and aesthetic effect of the structure by using a shape change of the line member. This paper presents a study of deployable facade design applying hybrid-typed Scissors system. A new deployable pattern of facade design is developed by combining Angulated Scissors system and tessellation pattern. Applying the deployable pattern a double skin construction method which is to add an outer wall for design, it raises three dimensional effects and can maximize the artistic essence of the change in shape upon deployment.
The present qualitative case study explored the ways in which three middle school students constructed and refined their mathematical models and modeling processes, and factors that had influenced such refinement. The results suggest that students' modeling processes are non-sequential in that the participant students reformulated their initial problem from the real-world problem situation and revised the model when they could not get a satisfactory solution or the acquired solution did not make sense. Moreover, the students' model refinement processes were affected by the following four elements: the types of real-word problem situations, students' metacognitive thinking, communications between teachers and peers, and the role of teachers.

During a Korean mushroom diversity survey from 2011 to 2014, we found one new Xylaria species (X. ripicola sp. nov.) and one Xylaria species that had not been previously observed in Korea (X. tentaculata). To confirm the phylogenetic placement of the new species, we conducted a phylogenetic investigation based on internal transcribed spacer regions of ribosomal DNA sequences. Additionally, the new species, X. ripicola, was subsequently analyzed for RNA polymerase II subunit sequences. We also evaluated the macroscopic and microscopic features of this species. Herein, X. ripicola is described as a new species that was collected from a natural beach habitat and X. tentaculata is formally reported as newly found in Korea.
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is characterized by dysregulatory production of proinflammatory cytokines and helper T (Th) cytokine-dependent autoantibody production. This study aims to investigate the protective effect of baicalin on the dysregulatory production of proinflammatory cytokines and Th cytokines in pristane-induced lupus mice. Mice were received i.p. a single injection of 0.5 ml of pristane, and then, later about 3 months, were used as a pristane-induced lupus model. The pristane-induced lupus mice were administrated orally with baicalin 50 mg/kg once in a day for 10 days. Immune cells obtained from the pristane-primed lupus control group (lupus control) and baicalin-treated pristaneprimed lupus mouse group (BAC lupus) were cultured for 24 h or 36 h with/without mitogens. These results demonstrated that LPS-induced production of macrophage and splenic TNF-${\alpha}$ and Con A-induced production of thymic IFN-${\gamma}$ were attenuated in BAC lupus compared to lupus control, while LPS-stimulated production of macrophage IL-10, Con A-stimulated production of splenic IL-10 and, $PGE_2$-reduced production of splenic IFN-${\gamma}$ enhanced. Therefore, these findings suggest that baicalin may protect from autoimmunity and disease activity in lupus via modulatory effect of proinflammatory cytokine overproduction and Th cytokine imbalance.

We conducted five times surveys, in June, September and October in 2012; June and September 2013, to catalog the mushroom flora in Ulleung-gun, Republic of Korea. More than 400 specimens were collected, and 317 of the specimens were successfully sequenced using the ribosomal DNA internal transcribed spacer barcode marker. We also surveyed the morphological characteristics of the sequenced specimens. The specimens were classified into 2 phyla, 7 classes, 21 orders, 59 families, 122 genera, and 221 species, and were deposited in the herbarium of Korea National Arboretum. Among the collected species, 72% were saprophytic, 25% were symbiotic, and 3% were parasitic. The most common order was Agaricales (189 specimens, 132 species), followed by Polyporales (47 specimens, 27 species), Russulales (31 specimens, 22 species), Boletales (10 specimens, 7 species), and so on. Herein, we also reported the first Bovista species in Korea, which was collected from Dokdo, the far-eastern island of Korea.
Cr-diamond-like carbon (Cr-DLC) films were deposited using a hybrid method involving both physical vapor deposition and plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition. DLC sputtering was carried out using argon and acetylene gases. With an increase in the DC power, the Cr content increased from 14.7 to 29.7 at%. The Cr-C bond appeared when the Cr content was 17.6 at% or more. At a Cr content of 17.6 at%, the films showed an electrical conductivity of > 363 S/cm. The current density was 9.12 × 10-2 ㎂/㎠, and the corrosion potential was 0.240 V. Therefore, a Cr content of 17.6 at% was found to be optimum for the deposition of the Cr-DLC thin films. The Cr-DLC thin films developed in this study showed high conductivity and corrosion resistance, and hence, are suitable for applications in separators.
Based on the spatial substructure hybrid simulation test (SHST) method, the seismic performance of a high-strength steel composite K-eccentrically braced frame (K-HSS-EBF) structure system is studied. First, on the basis of the existing pseudostatic experiments, a numerical model corresponding to the experimental model was established using OpenSees, which mainly simulated the shear effect of the shear links. A three-story and five-span spatial K-HSS-EBF was taken as the prototype, and SHST was performed with a half-scale SHST model. According to the test results, the validity of the SHST model was verified, and the main seismic performance indexes of the experimental substructure under different seismic waves were studied. The results show that the hybrid simulation results are basically consistent with the numerical simulation results of the global structure. The deformation of each story is mainly concentrated in the web of the shear link owing to shear deformation. The maximum interstory drifts of the model structure during Strength Level Earthquake (SLE) and Maximum Considered Earthquake (MCE) meet the demands of interstory limitations in the Chinese seismic design code of buildings. In conclusion, the seismic response characteristics of the K-HSS-EBFs are successfully simulated using the spatial SHST, which shows that the K-HSS-EBFs have good seismic performance.
The purpose of this study is to establish a novel system for on-site management of construction and demolition waste. Construction waste has always been one of largest waste in the world and has long lacked an effective management system. Although various countries have planned the disposal of waste at the political level, the real-time and effective management of construction sites has not been mentioned. Especially in China, the continuous development of the construction industry also generates a large amount of waste, and China is not prepared for a large amount of construction waste. In order to alleviate the huge impact of construction waste on society and the environment, this study proposes a waste management method that combines Building Information Modeling technology and Radio Frequency Identification technology. Through this research, by using information technology to manage the generation and discharge of construction waste, and record the amount and information of waste generation, also improve the management method of construction waste.

Many techniques have been proposed and investigated for microlens array manufacturing in three-dimensional (3D) structures. We present fabricating a microlens array using selective laser etching and a CO2 laser. The femtosecond laser was employed to produce multiple micro-cracks that comprise the predesigned 3D structure. Subsequently, the wet etching process with a KOH solution was used to produce the primary microlens array structures. To polish the nonoptical surface to the optical surface, we performed reflow postprocessing using a CO2 laser. We confirmed that the micro lens array can be manufactured in three primary shapes (cone, pyramid and hemisphere). Compared to our previous study, the processing time required for laser processing was reduced from approximately 1 hour to less than 30 seconds using the proposed processing method. Therefore, micro lens arrays can be manufactured using our processing method and can be applied to mass productionon large surface areas.
