  • The coplanar waveguide bandpass filter using folded-line stepped-impedance resonators(SIRs) is proposed. The folded-line SIR has about λ/8 length using the short-circuited end on coplanar waveguide. It make that the bandpass filter has the half size in comparison with general λ/4 SIR filter. In this paper, we derive the equivalent circuit and design the bandpass filter by using that. We design and fabricate the bandpass filter which has 5 GHz center frequency and 3 % fractional bandwidth. The measurement results fur 4-pole folded SIR bandpass filter agreed well with full-wave simulation and equivalent circuit results. The fabricated bandpass filter has a good spurious characteristic, which the harmonic frequency appeared at 2.5f$\_$0/). The proposed folded-line SIR bandpass filter are applicable for MMIC and High-Tc superconducting filters. bandwidth.

  • The design method of a temperature stable bandpass filter using dielectric coaxial resonators of with two dielectric ceramics with opposite signs of temperature coefficient of dielectric constant (${\tau}_{\epsilon}$) to compensate for each other in this method. $MgTiO_3$(${\tau}_{\epsilon}$=+99 ppm/${\circ}C$) as a positive ${\tau}_{\epsilon}$ material and Ba($Zn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3}$)$O_3$(${\tau}_{\epsilon}$=-77ppm/${\circ}C$) as a negative material were selected. The length of a SIR for the temperature stability was calculated according to the design method and the susceptance slope parameter of the SIR was obtained. A temperature stable bandpass filter using dielectric SIR's was designed, simulated and fabricated. The center frequency of this filter was 915 MHz and the pass bandwidth was 20 MHz. Temperature properties of this bandpass filter by simulations were compared with the measured results of the bandpass filter fabricated.

  • Background: This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the incidence of tumor recurrence, postoperative myasthenia gravis, postoperative complications, and overall survival after limited versus total thymectomy for Masaoka stage I and II thymoma. Methods: A systematic search of the literature was conducted using the PubMed, Embase, MEDLINE, and Cochrane databases to identify relevant studies that compared limited and total thymectomy in Masaoka stage I-II patients. The quality of the included observational studies was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. The results of the meta-analysis were expressed as log-transformed odds ratios (log ORs), with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: Seven observational studies with a total of 2,310 patients were included in the meta-analysis. There was an overall non-significant difference in favor of total thymectomy in terms of tumor recurrence (pooled log OR, 0.40; 95% CI, -0.07 to 0.87; p=0.10; I2=0%) and postoperative myasthenia gravis (pooled log OR, 0.12; 95% CI, -1.08 to 1.32; p=0.85; I2=22.6%). However, an overall non-significant difference was found in favor of limited thymectomy with respect to postoperative complications (pooled log OR, -0.21; 95% CI, -1.08 to 0.66; p=0.64; I2=36.1%) and overall survival (pooled log OR, -0.01; 95% CI, -0.68 to 0.66; p=0.98; I2=47.8%). Conclusion: Based on the results of this systematic review and meta-analysis, limited thymectomy as a treatment for stage I and II thymoma shows similar oncologic outcomes to total thymectomy.

  • Wind speeds have long been estimated from C-band VV-polarized SAR data by using the CMOD algorithms such as CMOD4, CMOD5, and CMOD_IFR2. Some SAR data with HH-polarization without any observations in VV-polarization mode should be converted to VV-polarized value in order to use the previous algorithms based on VV-polarized observation. To satisfy the necessity of polarization ratio (PR) for the conversion, we retrieved the conversion parameter from full-polarized SIR-C SAR image off the east coast of Korea. The polarization ratio for SIR-C SAR data was estimated to 0.47. To assess the accuracy of the polarization ratio coefficient, pseudo VV-polarized normalized radar cross section (NRCS) values were calculated and compared with the original VV-polarized ones. As a result, the estimated psudo values showed a good agreement with the original VV-polarized data with an root mean square error by 0.99 dB. We applied the psudo NRCS to the estimation of wind speeds based on the CMOD wind models. Comparison of the retrieved wind field with the ECMWF and NCEP/NCAR reanalysis wind data showed relatively small rms errors of 1.88 and 1.91 m/s, respectively. SIR-C HH-polarized SAR wind retrievals met the requirement of the scatterometer winds in overall. However, the polarization ratio coefficient revealed dependence on NRCS value, wind speed, and incident angle.

  • In this paper, the probabilistic free vibration analysis of a geometrically coupled cantilever wing with uncertain material properties is carried out using stochastic finite element (SFEM) based on first order perturbation technique. Here, both stiffness and damping of the system are considered as random parameters. The bending and torsional rigidities are assumed as spatially varying second order Gaussian random fields and represented by Karhunen Loeve (K-L) expansion. Here, the expected value, standard deviation, and probability distribution of random natural frequencies and damping ratios are computed. The results obtained from the present approach are also compared with Monte Carlo simulations (MCS). The results show that the uncertain bending rigidity has more influence on the damping ratio and frequency of modes 1 and 3 while uncertain torsional rigidity has more influence on the damping ratio and frequency of modes 2 and 3.

  • The sirtuins are a protein family named after the first identified member, S. cerevisiae Sir2p. Sirtuins are protein deacetylases whose activity is dependent on $NAD^+$ as a cosubstrate. They are structurally defined by two central domains that together form a highly conserved catalytic center, which catalyzes the transfer of an acetyl moiety from acetyllysine to $NAD^+$, yielding nicotinamide, the unique metabolite O-acetyl-ADP-ribose and deacetylated lysine. One or more sirtuins are present in virtually all species from bacteria to mammals. Here we describe a phylogenetic analysis of sirtuins. Based on their phylogenetic relationship, sirtuins can be grouped into over a dozen classes and subclasses. Humans, like most vertebrates, have seven sirtuins: SIRT1-SIRT7. These function in diverse cellular pathways, regulating transcriptional repression, aging, metabolism, DNA damage responses and apoptosis. We show that these seven sirtuins arose early during animal evolution. Conserved residues cluster around the catalytic center of known sirtuin family members.

  • A new compact UWB bandpass filter with sharp-rejection, low insertion-loss and flat group-delay is developed In this paper, using the transversal filtering combined with SIR(stepped impedance resonator) concept. To form the required passband, multiple out-of-band transmission zeros are created around band-edges, securing very low insertion loss in the very wide frequency range. Also it is found to be beneficial to realize a sharp rejection of higher order with a relatively small overall size and simultaneously have very smoothly varying group-delay which is proper for the UWB applications. The validity of the proposed technique is proven theoretically and experimentally.

  • This letter presents a compact dual-mode tri-band bandpass filter by using a short-circuited stub-loaded stepped-impedance resonator (SIR) and a short-circuited stub-loaded uniform impedance resonator. Also, a hairpin SIR geometry is introduced to miniature the size of this filter while maintaining excellent performance. The use of a short-circuited stub at the central point of the hairpin SIR can generate two resonant modes in two passbands. Its equivalent circuit structure is analyzed by using the even-odd mode theory. For demonstration purposes, a tri-band filter for the applications of the Global Positioning System at 1.57 GHz, Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access at 3.5 GHz, and wireless local area networks at 5.2 GHz is designed, fabricated, and measured.

  • This paper proposes the antenna selection scheme and power control algorithms of multiple nodes beamforming when the vehicles equipped with circular array antennas is moving and construct mobile mesh networks. The proposed antenna selection scheme chooses beamforming antenna elements considering antenna radiation gain and allows duplicated antenna selection for multiple adjacent nodes. The proposed power control algorithms maximize SIR for the duplicated antenna selection. The simulation demonstrates that the proposed antenna selection and power control achieve 2.5dB higher SIR gain than that of conventional methods when two nodes are apart from $15^{\circ}$.
