  • The purpose of this study was to analysis of pelvis and lower extremity using orientation angles during a developpe a la seconde. Data were collected by Kwon3D program. Two females professional modem dancer were participated in this experiment. Subjects performed a developpe a la seconde in meddle heights(about 90 dog.) The results were as follows. The orientation angles of pelvis were, in most cases, caused by the movement of trunk and thigh. It was restricted the movement of pelvis within narrow limits because the movement of pelvis was very important to lower extremity alignment. The orientation angle of shank against thigh showed a change of angle about $3-6^{\circ}$ in internal external rotation. The orientation angle of foot against shank showed a change of angle about $6-7^{\circ}$ in internal external rotation.

  • Objectives : In this study, we quantitatively evaluated the needle forces using needle insertion-measurement system and compared the needle sensation of each acupuncture practical model. Methods : After inserting acupuncture with a sensor to six models, a lifting-thrusting motion was implemented using the needle insertion-measurement system. The needle force was measured repeatedly, and the measurement was analyzed based on the modified Karnopp friction model for a comparison of friction coefficients. After the insertion, practitioners did lifting-thrusting manipulations. They quantified the similarity of needle sensation with VAS (Visual Analogue Scale). Results : When friction force and coefficients of friction in five different models were compared with a porcine shank model, all five models were significantly different from a porcine shank model, cotton and apple showing the closest frictional values to that of a porcine shank model. In the Cp and Cn values of cotton and in the Cp values of IM injection pad, there was no statistically significant difference. The similarity of the needle sensation between the porcine shank and five models was the highest in the apple, and overlapping papers was the lowest. Conclusions : This study quantitatively compared the physical forces in the practical model when implementing lifting-thrusting manipulations, using a needle insertion-measurement system. We suggest that a reproducible exercise model that reflects the characteristics of various human tissues, such as viscoelasticity or strength, needs to be further developed. This will contribute to establishing standardized acupuncture practice training.

  • Purpose: Fatigue breakage of cortical screws sometimes occurs after syndesmosis fixation, regardless of the period of screw retention. This study compared the fatigue strength of a novel screw design to conventional cortical screws in the fixed state of syndesmosis. Materials and Methods: Twelve sawbone models were tested mechanically to determine the fatigue strength of three screw designs. The first group was composed of cortical screws, while the second and third groups were newly-designed screws. The second group was composed of screws with a 2.4-mm diameter thread-free portion of the mid-shank while the third group had a 2.0-mm diameter thread-free mid-shank. A 400 N load was applied repetitively to a fibula model and the number of cycles until screw failure was recorded. Four screws from each group were tested, giving a total of 12 fatigue tests. Results: The average cycles until screw failure for groups 1, 2, and 3 were 8,134, 63,186, and 2,581, respectively. The second group showed the highest fatigue strength (p=0.018). The other two screw designs showed similar fatigue strength (p=0.401). Conclusion: New screw designs with a thread-free portion in the mid-shank could reduce the occurrence of fatigue breakage after syndesmosis fixation.

  • In this study, the formation mechanism of discontinuities in the laser fusion zone of diamond saw blade was investigated. $CO_2$ laser weldings were conducted along the butt between Fe base sintered tip and carbon steel shank with sets of variable welding parameters. The effect of heat input on irregular humps, outer cavity, inner cavity and bond strengh was evaluated. The optimum heat input to have a proper humps was in the range of 10.4~$17.6kJm_{-1}$. With increasing heat input, both outer and inner cavities were reduced. The outer cavity was caused by insufficient refill of keyhole, while inner cavity was caused by trapping of bubble in molten metal. The bubble came from sintered tip and intensive vaporization at bottom tip of the keyhole. A gas formation and low melting point element vaporization were not occurred during welding. We could not find any relationship between bond strength and amount of discontinuities. Because the fracture were occurred in not only sintered tip but also carbon steel shank due to hardness distributions.

  • The commercial Korean native chickens (WR_CC) was developed by crossing a few native chicken breeds in Korea. In order to investigate the breed identification markers, SNPs from TYR gene and MC1R gene, which are associated with skin and feather colors respectively, were initially identified. In case of 3 identified SNPs in the TYR gene, yellow shank color was identified in Loss, Harvard, AA, RIR and CC, which have the fixed SNPs in most of the animals. On the other hand, SNP variations were observed in KNC_RB, C_B, WR_CC and HH_CC, which have the black, yellow and mixed color with black and yellow shank colors. Also, the investigation of 3 SNPs in the MC1R gene indicated that there were associations between shank and feather colors in RIR, SF, KNC_B, C_B and RIR. However, these results are not consistent among breeds. These SNP type inconsistencies within breeds suggested that the selection was performed based on the phenotypes, which is not include the genotype information. Thus, selection based on genetic information is required in the future.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze of the rider postural alignments according to the fitting of stirrups lengths during walk of high level riders. Participants selected as subject were consisted of horse riders of high level (age: $47.66{\pm}3.51yrs$, height: $168.40{\pm}4.84cm$, body weight: $73.36{\pm}15.58kg$, low extremity length: $94.76{\pm}3.98cm$, career: $23.33{\pm}5.77yrs$) and walk with 3 types of stirrup lengths(ratio of low extremity 68.04%, 73.25%, 78.48%). The variables analyzed were consisted of the displacement of Y axis (center of mass, head, thigh, shank and foot), FR angle, LR angle, dynamic postural stability index (DPSI), coefficient of variation (CV%), and distance (X axis) of low extremity limb between right and left. The displacement of Y axis in COM, thigh, shank, foot limbs were not statistically significant, but movements of head showed greater distance of B type and C type than that of A type during 1 stride of walk. The FR and LR angle in trunk of horse rider, dynamic postural stability index and, coefficient of variation didn't show significant difference statistically according to the fitting of stirrup lengths. Also the distance (X axis) of low extremity in thigh and shank didn't show significant difference statistically in between right and left, but right and left foot showed greater distance in C type than that of B and A types during walk in horse back riding. The hip and ankle joint angle not statistically significant according to stirrups lengths, But knee joint angle showed more extended according to the increase of stirrups lengths during stance and swing phase in walk.

  • A flexible but implantable polyimide-based neural implant was fabricated for reliable and stable long-term monitoring of neural activities from brain. The developed neural implant provides 3-dimensional (3D) $3{\times}3$ structure, avoids any hand handling, and makes the insertion more efficient and reliable. Any film curvature caused by residual stress was not observed in the electrode. The 3D flexible polyimide electrode penetrated a dense gel whose stiffness is close to live brain tissue, because a ${\sim}1{\mu}m$ thick nickel was electroplated along the edge of the shank in order to improve the stiffness. The recording sites were positioned at both side of the shank to increase the probability of recording neural signals from a target volume of tissue. Impedance remained stable over 72 hours because of extremely low moisture uptake in the polyimide dielectric layers. At electrical recording test in vitro, the fabricated electrode showed excellent recording performance, suggesting that this electrode has the potential for great recording from neuron firing and long-term implant performance.

  • Spindle units of machine tool are very important part in the manufacturing area. Recently high speed machining has become the main issue of metal cutting. To develop high speed machine tools, a lot of studies have been carried out for high speed spindle. Due to increase of the rotational speed of the spindle, there has been renewal of interest in tooling system of high speed spindle. This paper concerns the static stiffness in the main spindle interface according to variation of clamping force, rotational speed and tool holder shank. Finite element analysis is performed by using a commercial code ANSYS workbench. From the results, it has been shown that the geometry of tool holder shank is mostly influence on the variation of the static stiffness in the main spindle interface.
