In this paper, a capacitive water level sensor for boilers was developed. In order to accurately monitor the water level in a high-temperature boiler that generates a lot of precipitates, the occurrence of precipitates on the surface of the water level sensor should be small, and a sensor capable of measuring even if the sensor surface is somewhat contaminated is required. The capacitive water level sensor has a structure in which one of the two electrodes is insulated with Teflon coating, and the stainless steel package of the water level sensor is brought into contact with the water tank so that the entire water tank becomes another electrode of the water level sensor. A C-V converter that converts the capacitance change of the capacitive water level sensor into a voltage change was developed and integrated with the water level sensor to minimize noise. The performance of the developed capacitive water level sensor was evaluated through measurement.

With emerging the Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm, the sensor network and sensor platform technologies have been changed according to exploding amount of sensors. Sensor Registry System (SRS) as a sensor platform is a system that registers and manages sensor metadata for consistent semantic interpretation in heterogeneous sensor networks. However, the SRS is unsuitable for the IoT environment. Therefore, this paper proposes sensor registry data model to register and manager sensor information in the IoT environment. We analyze Semantic Sensor Network Ontology (SSNO) for improving the existed SRS, and design metamodel based on the analysis result. We also build tables in a relational database using the designed metamodel, then implement SRS as a web application. This paper applies the SSNO and sensor ontology examples with translating into the proposed model in order to verify the suitability of the proposed sensor registry data model. As the evaluation result, the proposed model shows abundant expression of semantics by comparison with existed models.

We had presented an inductive type intraocular pressure sensor (L-sensor) in previous work. The distance between a micro coil and a ferrite on the membrane was modulated by pressure, and as a result the inductance and resonant frequency were changed. However, L-sensor has some problems to implant in eyes. First problem is low sensitivity. When L-sensor was implanted in rabbit's eyes, resonant frequency of L-sensor was very hard to detect. Second problem is biocompatibility. Size of L-sensor is $6{\times}7{\times}1.2mm$. When L-sensor was implanted in the eyes, it caused the inflammation. Therefore, this study suggests an inductive and capacitive type IOP sensor (LCsensor). The sensitivity of the LC-sensor 27.3 kHz/mmHg under 60mmHg. It is much larger than 14 kHz/mmHg of the L-sensor. And the size of LC-sensor is 47% smaller than L-sensor. After 2 weeks from the implantation of LC-sensor into rabbit eyes, we measured the changes of resonant frequency of LC-sensor according to increased IOP by Balanced Salt Solution (BSS) injection. As a result, the sensitivity of LC-sensor in in vivo test is 25 kHz/mmHg. That is similar to the sensitivity of in vitro test.
A pressure sensor in pulse measurement system is a core component for precisely measuring the pulse waveform of radial artery. A pulse sensor signal that measures the pulse wave in contact with the skin is affected by the temperature difference between the ambient temperature and skin surface. In this study, we found experimentally that the signal changes of the pressure sensors and a temperature sensor were caused by the temperature of the wrist surface while the pressure sensor was contacted on the skin surface for measuring pulse wave. To observe the signal change of the pulse sensor caused by temperature increase on sensor surface, Peltier device that can be kept at a set temperature was used. As the temperature of Peltier device was kept at $35^{\circ}C$ (the maximum wrist temperature), the device was put on the pulse sensor surface. The temperature and pressure signals were obtained simultaneously from a temperature sensor and six pressure sensors embedded in the pulse sensor. As a result of signal analysis, the sensor pressure was decreased during temperature increase of pulse sensor surface. In addition, the signal difference ratio of pressure and temperature sensors with respect to thickness of cover layer in pulse sensor was increased exponentially. Therefore, the signal of pressure sensor was modified by the compensation equation derived by the temperature sensor signal. We suggested that the thickness of cover layer in pulse sensor should be designed considering the skin surface temperature.

Recently, there is developing various ubiquitous application services using sensor networks based on TinyOS represented the operating system of sensor node. These sensor networks perform the collection and the transmission of sensing data from sensor node to get the context information. In this paper, we proposes the sensor node control algorithm which converts a sensor node to sleep, active, power off mode according to monitoring result of the voltage state of sensor node. Also, we designs and implement the sensor control module on server, sink, sensor node of sensor networks using this algorithm. It designs a sensor voltage control module of sensor node, data receive and display module of USN server using a java language and TinyOS. And, it checks the voltage state of sensor node, and it changes one of the sleep or power off modes in case of high voltage loss. Accordingly, we effectively use the power of sensor nodes as changing control modes of sensor nodes.
Conventional sensor node operating systems do not support sensor abstraction for sensor applications. So, application programmers have to take charge of developing the hardware and the device drivers for the applications by themselves. In this paper, we present an as architecture to support sensor abstraction. The as provide not only application programmers with API library to access sensor devices, but also sensor developers with HAL library to access sensor hardware. This can reduce the development burden of application programmers significantly. In this paper, at first, we define the sensor HW interface to ease the attachment of sensors. Second, we describe the sensor access API for application programmers. Third, we define the HAL library for sensor device programmers to use. Finally, we show that the as can support sensor abstraction by illustrating the sample programs.

In this study, the sensor response and sensitivity is experimented and analyzed quantitatively by the line numbers of chlorine ion reaction type corrosion sensor that is developed. The sensor response of the developed corrosion sensor is verified with properties of chlorine ion. The multilineal sensor is shown a large resistance change more than the single line sensor by damage of the sensor. And, the resistance change of sensor is as large as high concentration of NaCl aqueous solution, the sensitivity of multilineal sensor is higher than single line sensor's, and the depth of sensor's location is as large as the increasing of resistance change time (cycle). These results suggest that, the developed corrosion sensor could sense corrosion reaction, sensor sensitivity and change of resistance for chloride ion. Especially, It was judged that 7 line sensor was the most superior for monitoring chloride ion immigration into concrete.
In this research, we aimed to investigate the most optimum pulse wave sensor to ear label of live stocks among pulse wave piezo film sensor, conductive textile sensor, photo sensor. As a result of this research with application to 10 cattle, 10 pigs objects with pulse wave piezo film sensor, conductive textile sensor, photo sensor, photo sensor shows less standard deviation to average value than piezo film sensor or conductive textile sensor which means it is the most stable for the cattle. With pigs, piezo film sensor, conductive textile sensor and photo sensor all show stable pulse rate. Thus, to take pulse rate of livestock with curved body and long and dense coat such as cow, photo sensor will be considered as the most efficient mean.

Wireless wearable sensor networks have emerged as a promising technique for human motion tracking due to the flexibility and scalability. In such system several wireless sensor nodes being attached to human limb construct a wearable sensor network, where each sensor node including MEMS sensors (such as 3-axis accelerometer, 3-axis magnetometer and 3-axis gyroscope) monitors the limb orientation and transmits these information to the base station for reconstruction via low-power wireless communication technique. Due to the energy constraint, the high fidelity requirement for real time rendering of human motion and tiny operating system embedded in each sensor node adds more challenges for the system implementation. In this paper, we discuss such challenges and experiences in detail during the implementation of such system with wireless wearable sensor network which includes COTS wireless sensor nodes (Imote 2) and uses TinyOS 1.x in each sensor node. Since our system uses the COTS sensor nodes and popular tiny operating system, it might be helpful for further exploration in such field.

In this study, we develop a methane sensor module that can detect low concentrations below 5,000 ppm and measure up to the detection limit of 50 ppm with the NDIR method, with a long lifetime and high accuracy. Methane ($CH_4$) is one of a representative greenhouse gas, which is very explosive. Thus, it is important to quickly and accurately measure methane concentration in the air. To adjust the methane sensor for industrial field applications, a NDIR-based small sensor was implemented and characterized, where its volume was $4cm{\times}4cm{\times}2cm$ and its response time ($T_{90}$) was less than 30 sec. These results demonstrate that the proposed sensor is commercially available for low-concentration measurement, low volume, and fast response application, such as IoT sensor nodes and portable devices.
